A teammate of mine Vium introduced me to the core. I started using it, and had to learn the basic hotkeys from the start, by pushing myself two weeks for hotkey practice. Eventually I started playing customs and ladders, and even played 1-2 LAN's on the keyboard, with decent results.
Having used the keyboard layout for four months I still don't feel like I am fully comfortable with it. The main reason I think is because I am a tall guy, with longer fingers, and even though they have multiple configurations so that a lot of people can use it, I still think it doesn't fit my body comfortably. I have now switched back to standard layout again, and I feel like I am playing a lot more effective.
Another reason I think I play more effectively with the standard layout is because I play games since I was 12 years old, and have always used the left side of the keyboard. I choosed the The-Core settings which they said would fit me, but playing on the right side (in the center) of they keyboard is just something you will never be as used to, as using the left side, if you have played so many games.
I am happy I gaved it a true, and I am sure a lot of people will be happy using this layout, and feel a lot better using it. But I do think it will not help everyone.
Good luck with the project, and for the people that haven't tried it out yet: Make sure to try it, and see if it fits you (for atleast 3 months, because you have to get used to it).

Or can I adopt to the left-hande versions? The other side is relatiely normal. Thanks again for caring ^^
wow I've been using the core for about a year with the exact same keyboard as you, not realising there was anything different about the enter key etc. I guess I've been doing it wrong haha

Hey, I have one question, that just came up during playing a game with TheCore RZM: Why is the melee upgrade bound to O instead of J (the key that is used to spawn Zerglings and the main reason you would research the melee upgrade)? Switching the armor and melee upgrade hotkey would also make the setup more intuitive as it would order the upgrade hotkeys according to the way the upgrades are displayed in the evo chamber.

Hey, zrm user here.
When hot keying hatches I don't believe that there is a hot key bound to "set worker rally". All other races can right click and unless I'm missing something Zerg need a hotkey to assign a worker rally.
Am I missing something? This all seems a little too well made for a silly oversight, so what is it that I can do to set worker rally with hatcheries?
Thank you for TheCore!

Thank you for TheCore! You just right-click on a mineral patch.

Coffee, Looking at your post on Page 308, you and I have a similar set-up, with only a few small changes. Our bottom two rows (11-20) are exactly the same, For button 6, instead of y, I have it bound to Escape (Menu) and 1 is tab, 2-5 are 6-9. Lastly, the Thumb set-up, I use the Space Bar button for Alt, since I only use it at the very beginning of the game to set cams (I'll explain my 6 cams below). The top button is Shift, and the 8-way is Ctrl. This allows me, if I have to reset a Control Group, to use both Shift and Ctrl at the same time... I use the Razer Naga (Played Wow for 8 years, got used to having those 12 keys on the side of my mouse, so i utilize them for the 10 control groups, control all army, and select all idle workers. Front and Back Mouse Buttons are for Next/Prev sub-groups.
As far as my Base Cams, with the Orbweaver. Set Cam (Alt - Side Note, I removed Alt from the Snap Cam to current Target, so that I could set all my Base Cams at the same time): Base 1 - Alt+9 Base 2 - Alt+8 Base 3 - Alt+7 Base 4 - Alt+6 Enemy Main - Alt + L Enemy Natural - Alt + K
As for the tips about using the Hotkey Trainer, I do. Every day when I go to play, I will go through about 100 of each category for Zerg, kind-of like a warm-up/stretching.

@YoTcA All ranged attack upgrades are on the same key and all air attack upgrades are on the same key for consistency. In building TheCore, we have had to keep in mind ease of learning and efficiency/ergonomic design. We have made sacrifices where we can in order to make it easier to learn, but in situations where the benefits of efficiency outweighs the benefits of the ease of learning, we go with efficiency.
Hopes this answers your question!

Hey Jakatak, I don't know if you still keep up with all these comments (as your last post was about eight days ago), but I wanted to comment that some of the videos you posted no longer exist due to you changing your youtube videos to a different channel. I see you've changed the primary videos in the beginning of this thread, but deep into the faq (possibly elsewhere), there are still quite a few videos that need to be replaced. (ex. 4. How do I do larva injects with TheCore?) Just a heads up

Thanks. I do keep up with this thread via Wari who is managing all the social media. I'll get right on that, thanks!

Hello, i have been using the core for sometime and theres is a bug for me that gives headache,
I cannot recreate control group 6 (ctrl+shift+0) All the other control groups work fine but this one, i can only add units and structures to this group but i cannot recreate it at all. ive cheked many times the hotkey menu and everything seems to be in order
Im using, razer blackwidow ultimate 2013
I thank greatly for any help.

You can pretty much imagine when you accidently add something wrong into the control group, example CC, marines and marauders, and soon you notice how scv's have rally points all over the map and you cant use the control group any longer :D

@Anzki, Check out the FAQ on the first page...

Sorry and Thanks! I totally missed this, and thanks for these great hotkeys!

Ok I have been using the Core layout for a few weeks now. I'd like to share a few thoughts.
Biggest complaint is my thumb hurts from the edges of the keys, the keys should be more ergonomic for thumbs. Do you guys know of any thumb friendly keys?
I play RRM btw. I like the hellbat and hellion change keys (i and k respectively). A hellion seems 'low' and a hellbat seems 'high', in the same way i is above k on the qwerty. Associating up/down with i/k keys it helps a lot.
I found that one simple change is the viking transformation. Currently its i to go into assault (ground) mode and k to go into fighter (air) mode. It would be more natural if the keys are reversed to reflect the up/down idea.
This idea also applies to thors explosive rounds spread and seem 'low' and impact rounds focus and seem 'high'. Associating up/down with keys makes them more natural. I think we should review our hotkeys and try to use this strong mnemonic when possible

I think I have the same problem as Anzki, although I use some shitty 10€ Logitech nevermind, apparently

A few questions:
Is there a forum just dedicated to the Core? That would help communication a lot.
Also I cant figure out whether to use Rapid Fire Inject using queens or Rapid Fire Creep Tumors. What are your thoughts guys?
|
@Wari19: Yes, I think this answers my question, but it leads straight to another: Why did u decide to go with J as the armor upgrad button? I think the attack upgrade is always shown to the left of the armor upgrade ingame, so I wonder what lead to this decission to put it on J instead of O. I just dont see any ergonomic advantage and it feels more natural. (Would also free up J for the meele attack upgrade ^^)
Additionally I wondered why O is used to research the greater spire. As "/" is used to upgrad lair and hive, I feel better, having 1 upgrade building button instead of having only the spire evolved using the O button.
Again, I have not read through the 300 pages of this thread and do not know your reasoning behind all this. I just want to give some input to maybe improve TheCore even further.
@ishti: In ZRM both methods are available at the same time. Inject is bound to O (the rapid fire button in ZRM) and creep tumors can spread to another tumor using either O (with rapidfire) or I (without rapid fire). I do not know if this can be applied to RRM, but maybe consider binding O and I to creep tumors. (Queens placing creep tumors will not be rapidfire, but I think that is not a problem)

Hi guys,
I started SC2 quite recently and adopted straight away TheCore (Terran right handed medium).
Now that I started to play I have an issue when it comes to split an army and reassigning groups. Marines + Medivacs. Want to harass with 1 Medivac full of marines. All of them were on group 1 for instance. To be able to assign this single Medivac full of marines to group 2 and remove it from group 1, at the present time, I have to: - Assign the Medivac to group 2 (ctrl group 2 for me). - Shift clic the Medivac out of group 1. - Ctrl + shift group 1 what remains once the Medivac has been taken out.
Same applies when I simply want to separate my army into 2 for instance but is even worth since I have to shif clic every single marines out of group 1 (cannot do a selection here, can I?) Especially this ctrl + shift is hard to do when in a rush. I would have loved to simply have to ctrl group 1 only.
Am I supposed to do it this way or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks!

ishti, If you are looking for a way to Rapid Fire Creep Tumor from Queens, Hold Shift, Press I, and then Hold O to Rapid Fire down the Creep Tumors...
