There are 10 group hotkeys in the middle. I can't see how it is useful since most pros use 3-5 group hotkeys. How is this better from for instance gird? Assuming that you can set up your own gird and fix attack key.

edit: So im very new to the core and spent not more than 1 hour to my new settings and still i can feel much improvment.
But i have one annoying issue (because i dont know how to fix it atm):

i cant create control grp 6. Shortcut for that is ctrl + shift + 0 but not its not working... all other control groups work just fine, though i had to change some keys a bit to fit better for me personal. anyone could help?

i use the TRM - Murica qwerty version

in addition i could need some suggestion in wich way i fill the ctrl grps.

grp 1 CC
2 army 1
3 army 2
4 rax
5 fax
6 starport
9 bay/armory

that are my usuall grps. Now with the core that feels quite uncomfortable because i have to jump between 3 key lines (O,P,Ü - L - 9) So here i have to make some changes i guess

SonGoku, check the front page FAQ for your Ctrl + Shift + 0 issue...

Also, The Reference Spreadsheets have suggested control group set-ups..

As far as I know, a lot of them use standard, and the ones who switched over with KeSPA might even use Classic layout, pretty much as close to BW as possible. They've probably made some useful modifications, but I don't expect them to have spent much time on it considering they have to spend time on practicing. Another factor to consider is that the years they've spent already using one layout would be difficult to undo and even more time would be required to build up the same level of familiarity with a new layout.

So you say korean progamers dont really care about the best ergonomic key layouts and they just use what they´re used to?

As far as I know, yes. I can't claim any expertise in the field, though.

Top 3 groups that use this setup are silver, gold and plat. Look at pros playing you can clearly see that most of them uses 3-5 group hotkeys and they use camera hotkeys for bases only if anything. The thing they do instead is to move around a minimap a lot.

If you consider the number of players in each group it is obvious that this must be the case. Going by percentages you will see that a very high portion of GM players use this layout.

thats maybe true, but i think JessicaSc2 is right. I never saw a Pro helding his hand in the middle/right corner of the keyboard.
Sometimes I think at least a few of them are using grid as they seem to never leave the left side of the keyboard...

As to pro players; slowbacontron mentioned above that a lot of them have logged so many hours with the other system that switching for them would be more than inconvenient. Spend 10,000 hours doing something one way and you will have a hard time envisioning another method. Their muscle memory is so ingrained that they would risk reverting to their previous method at a critical moment and lose. Any player who is new to the game would benefit greatly from adopting this early on.

I have started adopting The Core. I have a couple of questions:
1) Why is suggested natural camera key is ; ? Why is "shift+P" is only suggested for 6th? It's a very comfortable key to reach.
2) Why are free cameras binded to control+I/J? I find it logical to bind them to shift+I/J to be consistent with other camera keys. Could you please explain, I might be missing something here?
3) Why is the suggested control group key for CC is P and not O. The first camera is on O, so it seems like there is a little inconsistency.

Thanks a lot!

I have realized the third point is obvious — you wouldn't be able to queue things up.

Most WCS Premiere and Code S players use 7-9 CGs. The major advantages of TheCore are found here:

edit: also, Naniwa has been using a set up similar to TheCore as far as position on the keyboard for a long time now.

That's the one from yesterday. Would be great if a config file would include a version, but not sure if sc2 parser would like that.

Also, what would be the suggested way of using control groups for the main army? Is it better to have all main army on one key and then create separate groups for some subgroups in the main army, like ghosts, widow mines etc? I wonder what's the best way in theory. I suppose the first hotkey would be used to move all the army and the second one to more precisely position army before the fight.

While looking at all hotkeys I also noticed that for free cameras there are two combinations for each, one with control, the other with shift. Is this done for any specific purpose? Do you suggest the one with shift or control?

HELP!

I just started using sc2gears again, but it somehow interferes and blocks one of my base camera keys "ctrl + shift i" to be exact. Has anyone else had this issue? Its very annoying since I use it as my third base key and its essential.

@dgorbik
no, the parser would not like that Pretty much why we don't do it.

suggested CGs are in the FAQ. There isn't a decided upon theoretical optimal way to do it, but we tried our best. Very much interested in opening up that discussion if you have some ideas

EDIT:
never heard of the Sc2gears issue before. Anyone else have that issue?
