I'm a touch typist trained on QWERTY with home-rows "asdf" and "jkl;" and learning this layout is really scrambling my neural net. when you're pressing control and shift you use the thumb for both at once. did you see the keyboard tilt bit in the op? its pretty important. I WOULD describe the part of your thumb used on the shift key as the tip. Just the tip though. Just...the tip. I usually use the word "tip" in relation to fingers when the finger is perpendicular to the surface, not parallel. It's just as important not to do that with the shift key as the tilt is, if not more important, lol.
Idk if that is the general opinion, though.

For the Nydus Worm I put it in the Evo chamber hotkey (0 on ZRL) an tab to it. But certainly looking forward to more suggestions. I put the Worm Heads on the harras hotkeys to get there fast.

Apparently very poorly. Regardless, yes you do hit control and shift with you thumb simultaneously. Case closed.

I'd be interested in what you think about settings: I'm waiting for an explanation on the 50 to 54% mouse sensitivity setting. Also, I left checked the "Display experience points" setting, because it helps seeing if you kill a unit you cannot see (ie. you manually detonate a baneling and you don't have detection, if you see experience points you know that you killed something burrowed there like a widow mine)

@rogor If you cannot wait, here is the explanation: http://mousespeed.net/sc2-mouse-optimization Have fun!
@Jak I'm curious if you have checked the visibility of burrowed widowmines with your graphic settings, especially when your opponent hides them in the shadow of e.g. missile-turrets.

regarding mouse sensitivity, I have fine-tuned the exact DPI I want using the steelseries engine tool (and of course settings the windows slider to 6/11 with no acceleration).
For mac users, download SmoothMouse, and set the slider to 4/12 to have 1:1 pixel to pixel DPI with no acceleration.
My target is to have the entire screen width be equivalent to exactly 2 inches of lateral mouse movement. From here, I choose a display resolution optimal for my graphics card and monitor (1600x900), then use a DPI of 800 (1600/2).
What's great about this is that I can get exactly the same mouse response regardless of resolution, monitor, even operating system. I can go between mac and windows, and desktop monitor, and TV all seamlessly.
I highly recommend using a steelseries sensei mouse since it can dial DPI by increments of 1, and can store 5 profiles. If anyone is curious for more info, I made a spreadsheet with this info.

Wow that guide is MONEY! I'm going to have to go through this in detail when I have more free time. I smell another spreadsheet coming!

Dammit. Now I need a 1600 DPI mouse or I need to get used to the new speed which feels damn slow.
I'm not sure whether to hate you or to love you, sil0r.

Talking about mouse sensitivities, I used to be on 2100, then switched to 800 and it's so much better! Much higher accuracy and comfort! Low sens is definitely recommended! I hear demuslim uses 1070. I changed from claw grip to palm, of course.

I personally have a lot more accuracy with claw grip. EDIT: Actually, I apparently use fingertip grip, so I guess I can't comment.

I've tried searching the forums but haven't found any help.
Does anyone else have a problem with using ALT+o? It doesn't seem to work for me. I'm having problems using one of the camera hotkeys. I do have a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 if that matters.

Honest question, do you really believe that a 200 page thread on hotkeys will have an oft-used command that doesn't work?
Seriously though, there's only one other person I can remember who had this problem, but it was with Alt+K instead. It worked for everyone else at the time. It's probably the keyboard in some way. Apologies, but I can't give a better answer than that.
Oh, and can you include the layout (ZRM, TLL) next time, please?
|
I'm using PRM and just upgraded from 5.1 to 6.2 today :/
|
6.2? This is 0.7. Where are you getting that version number? Double check your ingame hotkeys to make sure alt+O is what is says it is. Also, which keyboard layout are you using? USQwerty?
|
Appock- you can check by trying to bind something to alt-o inside the game. That should tell you if your key isn't registering for some reason. If you're having a problem it might show up as just O, or just alt, or maybe nothing at all.
|
Hello, i have to say very intresting.. But i don't understand how you have camera keys and control groups on same hotkey?
I've been watching videos and read i still don't get it..
|
Misread what version it was. I just installed 0.6.2 of PRM. I don't know if it was working on 0.5.1, the previous version I was using. I'm still trying to learn to use the camera hotkeys.
I've double checked and the keyboard layout (in windows) is US and I've removed any hotkeys for changing input languages (there was one set up previously by default).
I have double checked the configuration for each hotkey and verified it is set. I have started a custom game and purposely tried to set a camera up on alt+o and recall it with shift+o, but it doesn't work. All of the other 5 work just fine. I can successfully set a control group to o.
I wouldn't be asking about it if the hotkey wasn't right in the middle of my hand location in an easy to use spot. Thanks for your help :/
|
Oh, I also played around with the Core visualizer and it also does not respond to the alt+o combination. So that to me says the problem is with windows or the razer software (which of course never acts like it should).
A note with the visualizer... it doesn't seem to be the same PRM that I was using in game. There are distinct differences, such as the placement of the advanced building menu when a probe is selected.

@ fr4nk1sh,
Here is an example: take any key X. Assign the following functions to X:
X: select control group Y
Ctrl X: add to control group Y
Shift + Ctrl X: create control group Y
Alt X: create camera Z
Shift X: recall camera Z
Now you have a control group and a camera bound to one key, namely X.
(Note by XYZ I don't mean particular keys on the keyboard, rather I mean to show a general formula that can apply to any key/control group/camera.)
Does this help?
