i love these videos, they have helped me alot recently, i mananged to to get into platinum thanks to this, but i do have one question, i the only thing i have really struggled against zerg that go 2 base baneling bust, i have lost every single time i have gone up against this opening :< any tips on how to stop? i never seem to have enough units by the time they come to my door,

apart from this i have really improved thanks to this, im playing beastly since i started to hit those bench marks :D

You can try adding more bunkers, put two there similar to how he mentions you can should always make 2 against protoss just incase, you can also put your barracks in front of the bunkers, or make a second row of empty bunkers in front of your real ones.

When in doubt just add more stuff to your wall, more banelings killing themselves on building the more units you will have leftover to counter

Also, if no one mentioned it Filter's youtube channel has the first couple episodes of the zerg guide up

I downloaded and watched the gold league replays... I must say, I LOVE this series but your opponets seem to be weaker than the ones I play. I'm ranked 1 in silver and play gold league players but they are killing me... From your replays I see ppl making very few workers... basic stuff.. I don't seem to find such players in Gold. Im playing on EU, do u play on AM?

For my fellow Brotoss players waiting for Filter to get to us, I've been using EmpireMista's build in this thread:

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=337516

It's not perfect but my macro is definitely improving!

I also find my opponents a lot tougher than in the video, playing from the EU server. Don't even get me started on the Taiwanese client. Over there, all-in's and cheeses are considered real gentlemen's games and aren't looked down on.

Play a standard TvP in your league then come back and say that.

To everyone saying the opponents he faces are easier, whether you're on NA or EU, remember that this is a Masters player playing against people 3-4 leagues below himself. He can use the bronze strategy against Platinum and Diamond players and win most of the time. This allows one to focus on their mechanics which is not the only part of the game.

I know a lot of us lower league players love to argue with master players about strats and how this counters this and so on but I bet almost all of the higher league players would agree that it isn't the strategy that's losing us games. It's our inability to deal with harass, us actually missing the benchmarks of this strat or some other aspect that we've run into a few dozen times and not thousands like people who really know the game.

Filter, thanks for all the help. You've improved my game.

eu (silver) Zerg here, I was wondering is 56 drones (8mins) on 2 base not a bit over saturated, why is that the benchmark??

I have been doing this a while now and getting straight strong benchmarks against no opponents, but when on ladder i have trouble. Distractions trow me off bigtime ... 1 drone/scv/probe eentering my base will lower my drone count considerably..

Getting allin-ed by bane/ling is painful .. (especially cuz i don't get a second benchmark ) but i think my map awareness is improving due to getting more used to playing like this. If i saw the lings pass under my ol that i had positioned i would have blocked the ramp and been just fine.

Getting proxy 2 gated is still awful, again ..not seeing it in time is the problem so more vigilant scouting with initial lings/ overlords will fix this in time.

The amount of CRUSHING games i put out is so nice. Getting to attack with LOTS roaches with +2 +2 speed and burrow/movement just rocks.
Filter you rock, keep em coming. Want to get into gold for a while now ... Never knew how bad my macro really was until i played like this.
and to all my opponents i'd like to say .. SSSSSOOORRRYYY.. its only roaches ... grin.

Well, a protoss army that tries to a-move at 10 minutes gets steamrolled by any race really. We need colossi in order to do that, which means we need to get into the mid-game in order to stand a chance. In order to a-move off of 2 bases we really need to go all-in. Which means we need to get our third up, and once we do that our opponent has usually teched up enough to make serious dents in our armies...

So i posted a question in the Terran Help me Thread, and i was directed here. So i had been doing a prox rax all in. I couldnt get higher than top 3 in my ladder. i realized i was about 17 scv's short by the 10 min mark. I have literally just gotten 50 scv by the 10 min mark done the 3-1-1 silver build and rolled over pretty much every plat player....it was crazy i had no idea how important those few extra scv's were! So i just wanna say thanks

Listen, if you do anything of what others tell you that makes you feel comfortable then thats a red flag right there. You should be playing how you feel comfortable and the mechanics work itself out great when you are comfortable.

If you are doing other things, like this thread says, even if they think its good for you then it can only be bad for you.

Just wanted to say thanks for making an awesome video tutorial series Filter! I started watching and practising the builds vs the AI a month ago . I was ranked 24th in Gold but decided to start at the Bronze level vids and work my way up. I only progressed when I could hit the benchmark at each level while defeating a Hard AI opponent. Two weeks later I started using the Gold-to-Platinum build on the ladder and was winning at a 70 per cent rate. I am now ranked 7th and am beating Platinums!!! Im not saying this tutorial series will work this well for everyone, but it has for me. I used to play off one or two bases with All-ins because I was afraid of the mid-late game. Now....I welcome it. My production, upgrades and economy have all improved vastly. The more I used this build on the ladder, the better I became at scouting and denying aggressive timings. Now, the first 16 minutes are on virtual auto-pilot and I am able to devote much more attention to the mini-map, scouting and my army. Cant wait to watch the rest of your videos and apply their teachings.

Thanks sooooooooooo much for the hard work you have put into this video series, you rock Filter!

Steve (Agamemnon)

PS I think I love you now

Let's see, there's more than a hundred guys in this entire thread that have expressed how it helped them get better at the game and at the same time have more understanding and fun. How exactly do you think it was bad for them?!

I'm curious; how is having a method of practicing mechanics bad? As to always using the builds shown in the video and thinking it's a generic terran tutorial, yes that's stupid, but the series is about practicing basic mechanics that you can later use no matter what build you use.

Doing this stuff for me is hilarious, as I sit and watch my marines chase - in vain - Reapers that completely crush my SCVs, get totally wiped by a massive wave of Banelings...it's just ridiculous.

I agree. Are you and I on the EU ladder an everybody else on the NA?

I'm on EU too and I'd say you'd have to lable all the videos with atleast one league down for EU atm (silver video here = bronze on EU, Gold video here = Silver on EU, and so on). Also you have to realise that other people get better aswell. So the overall skilllevel rises (partly because of this thread too btw, a lot of people use this training and get better). Unfortunately this probably means I'll never get out of Silver . To get up in the ladders you have to train and improve faster than the others on your skillevel.

And yes, all-ins and cheeses are a pain in the rear. I have like a 60% w/l-ratio in makro games. With all-ins it varies a lot. Sometimes I have a streak of holding them all, sometimes I just overreact or react badly in a row. On this weekend for example lost to 4 cheeses/all-ins and won against 1. In most cases I just reacted badly, I know that, so I will probably do a week of anti-allin training or so.

On a sidenote, please don't get me wrong. I don't want to say this is bad training here or so. I really like this thread and am really thankful. Just wanna explain why/how the league description of the videos can't have a meaning.

Cant agree there, I'm in silver, facing gold sometimes, and since I started the first Z vid, I'm 9-2. The Roach stuff work quite well, I always have lots of stuff more than my opponent, and that is kind of the point or the practice.

Terran
Right now I use from the Gold videos the style with Tanks instead of double-Medivacs (TL on Fax instead of Reactor -> switch to Starport).

Absolutely disagree with you guys there. Playing only the GOLD benchmarks got me into top 8 platinum in my EU division. I crushed a Diamond Zerg with the Plat benchmarks last week.

I won 10 out of my last 12 games.

You still have to do other stuff while hitting the benchmarks. Do drops. Distract your opponent. Harass. Add specific units versus specific units. If he attacks with banelings, split your marines. Focus fire the blings.
If he attacks with Colossus, focus fire those with your vikings. EMP templars. etc etc.

You're supposed to hit the benchmarks while doing all of this.

This playstyle gives you the background to sustain solid production, to be able to support your splits and drops and harasses and engagements with an army right for the amount of time that has passed in the game not more, not less.
