Since so many Terrans have trouble in TvP lately, I asked myself from whom can we learn?
Do we actually have a TvP Killer at the moment? Who might be the one to claim this title?
When I started playing Broodwar in 2005 I also had the most problems with TvP. In the good old days, I have been watching lots of VODs and replays from SKT|Midas. He had one of the highest winratios in TvP at that time and I learned a lot by watching him play.

In the recent years BW is more or Less dominated by one player: KT|Flash. He is known for his macro style and overwhelming army compositions and insanely good micro at the same time.

Now back to us, back to SC2 a completely different game. I have watched many streams of Korean GM Terrans and it seems that they recently have problems versus Protoss too. Of course there are very good non-Korean Terrans, but overall I think Korean Terrans are a bit better (due to more training and experience). I've seen good and bad games of them and since SC2 is out for 2 years now (Beta included) I'm curious who you like most. I've decided not to make a poll because people might click on the most famous players first, instead of the best Players versus Protoss.
Who is the best Terran in TvP right now?
Here's a list of current Code S and Code A Terrans: aLive asd Bomber BoxeR Clide fOrGG GanZi GuMiho Heart IMHappy Jjakji Jjun Keen MarineKing Maru MMA MVP NaDa Polt Ryung sC sculp SuperNoVa Taeja TheStC Virus
Feel free to discuss!
Remember: This thread is not about balance discussions, it's about who plays the best TvP.
Edit: Thanks for the answers so far, I thought it would be best in Strategy, to discuss how the players see the matchup and what strategies they use. If mods think it's better in General, someone should move it.

Can someone move this thread to sc2 general. This is strategy forum.
Thanks

Polt used to be really good in TvP.
EDIT: Not in the list but PuMa had one of the highest TvP win ratio. He did a lot of one base builds like 1-1-1, maybe you would be interested on that.

I'm assuming you put this in the Strategy section so you can talk about how these players play well...
I would say Polt or PuMa. Polt was always insanely good with marauder/bio micro. PuMa still has IMO the scariest 1/1/1, and he understands Ghost timings and how to use them very well. Not just spamming E on the closest clump of units, but actually individually sniping templar and then EMPing the front zealots. While microing his bio force. Both these guys are really good at multipronged dropping too.

puma and its not even close

I like the older MKP style, and DeMuslim's style (ForGG has been messing around with it too) where they add rax very quickly after a gasless expand and hold off early aggression/go be aggressive with marines off of ~four quick rax.
It hasn't been working well for me, though, so I'll have to change it up anyway -_-
I really like Thorzain's approach to the game, though, so I always try to pick up on what he's doing.
|
Going for something unorthodox, used to think Polt was the best, still probably think he's the best. But
Get at me, but I think even if TvP is MVP's weakest matchup, it's still better than some of the above.
What about jjakji? MMA's TvP is supposed to have gotten a lot better (@iem kiev: oh god the protosseseses) as well.
If this GSL RO8 isn't a protoss all-kill, it'd be worth watching the TvPs since there's a lot of protoss (and 1 zerg?), but I realistically wouldn't be surprised if all the T's drop out lol.
|
Kas's macro is very good, but I think PuMa just understands the matchup way too much for him to even compare to anybody else.
|
MarineKing or Thorzain. MarineKing is able to make the most out of few units, and it really pays off in TvP when zealots and archons are very strong against marines in small numbers. He also has the multitasking to keep the pressure on.
Thorzain is great at setting up his TvP. His gamesense is probably the best of the terrans in this matchup. He moves well on the map, and engages well always. His ghost use is also sick (patch might change that though), and his reaper lategame followup is innovative and truly is the way to play lategame (against a zealot archon hightemplar deathball) TvP now.
MOVE THIS TO GENERAL THOUGH! THIS IS A DISCUSSION, BUT NOT OF STRATEGY!

PuMa imo, his knowledge of the matchup is the best, but we'll see how + Show Spoiler +aLive handles ro4 Still I don't think anyone is truly solid in TvP atm.

How has nobody said Taeja yet? The guy's control is sick and he's been putting up very consistent results much more recently than PuMa or Polt against Code A/Code S level protoss players. As far as I'm concerned the guy's a total frikkin' rockstar from Tarsonis.
|
select crushes though people even in Korea. I think his TvP is still some of the best in the word, so I would take a look at his play. As for koreans, I think MMA is one of the stronger players, but his understanding of the MU has fallen a bit behind, so in the coming months I think MMA is going to be another person to look at.

Happy was pretty convincing controlwise and his understandind of how to use his unit comp was excellent against mana. From foreigners side that was the most convincing late game play i have seen in a while.Tzain got stomped by pomi 2 times in a row lategame.Still has sick control though but i think happy has better unit composition at any given time.As far koreans are concerned.I think we can't safely say right now cause metagame is shifting a bit and games are kinda strange.Gumiho cause he has an all-out balls to the wall style..mma cause he is a boss and i like alive also

On topic though, I don't think there is a clear winner of who has the best tvp, almost all korean terrans are either slightly good at the matchup, or slightly bad at the matchup, I don't see anyone dominating protoss at the moment in korea, feel free to correct me though. At one point bomber had the best tvp but now I am not sure :/

Puma by far. Using correct numbers of ghosts and drops entire game on top of already solid play.

Implying losing to AcE means you're bad?
Ace is an absolutely sick player. No big deal to lose to him.

Currently I don't think there is a clear favourite/contender seeing how Terrans aren't doing so well against toss in the recent code S(62.5% PvT WR) last I checked. Keeping my fingers crossed to see aLive's performance in the RO4 against Toss
