I sent a PM to Kennigit about the accidental double post

(Zerg player)

Replay link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/p772l3

Hi there,

This is a replay of a tournament game that I played a few weeks ago. Its probably me at my near best in terms of macro. According to SC2Gears, my average inject idle time was 12 seconds, which is pretty damn good and on par with the best of the Korean Zerg replays. So I'm sure that compared to most people who come by here asking for help, my macro isn't that bad.

Since macro has been the focus of my development for quite some time, I've been trying to figure out what comes next after that once you're on par with the rest of the best in terms of mechanics. I was hoping that you guys could help point me in the right direction.

Thanks for any response ahead of time,
-Just another nobody

Don't stray away from practicing macro; make sure you're consistent first because macro is like a muscle. You need to keep it in shape. For an actual focus though, practice defending random all-ins and timing pushes, and scouting those via mass ladder.

:c My macro as Zerg is on par with what I see in the sc2gears statistics when I compare with the Korean pro replays that I get from sc2rep. So I'm not really here for macro help because its impossible to be perfect with it.

I was looking for what there is to do afterward. Defending against random all-ins and timing pushes as well as scouting are great and all, but is that really what comes after you approach a level of mechanics that is comparable to the pros?

Did you read the strategy forum guidelines? You may want to do that and edit your post to comply with them.

I highly doubt your macro is on par with that of top Korean zergs, whoever you are. Sc2gears doesn't tell the whole story

I didn't say that my macro was on par with that of the top Koreans.

I said that my hatchery idle time was on par with that the top Korean zergs that I've seen on sc2rep replays. I also asked what you do once you are on par with top Korean zergs in terms of macro.

Are you serious? You want random TLers who dont necessarily play at your skill level or your race to provide open ended advice.

Read these, and then try to tell me you complied with the rules, or even looked them up, before posting.

Perhaps I should post this in the Brood War strategy section. At least I'd meet the guidelines there.

you're supposed to at least give a token attempt at analyzing your own replay before you post. since i'm going to watch it and give you feedback, i'd like you to at least post some cursory analysis so i don't waste my time with a topic that's going to be closed.

A) you're gold, your macro stinks
B) you don't build any drones when he goes 1rax FE, so he's on 29 scvs + 2 mules vs your 36 drones, so he's way ahead economically. you don't know he's 1rax FE because you don't have any overlords around his base or natural
C) you randomly waste 6 banelings to kill a reactor
D) you bank a ton of minerals by 11 minutes, get your third pretty late, don't get macro hatchery, et cetera
E) you don't get baneling speed, don't have enough banelings because your macro stinks, and manage to run all your banelings right past his bio into his tanks

in summary: 1) get baneling speed 2) don't run your banelings into tanks instead of bio 3) macro better and build more drones 4) scout him with overlords

The rules are the same in both strategy forums. Also, I'm not trying to do the moderator's job, I'm trying to tell you to edit your post such that it complies with the rules, for your own sake. Stubbornly refusing to do so probably won't get you much help.

Although you claim "I didn't say that my macro was on par with that of the top Koreans" you still want to know what someone should do if your larvae injects were on par? Learn the rest of your macro, I guess. Practice not getting supply blocked, taking/getting gas at the right time, etc.

No matter what, you never stop practicing your macro. If you're not the best in the world, strive to be so; if you are, strive to be better, so your advantage is large. If you think macro is no longer your limiting factor, as you continue to improve on it, work on the other fields that you need to be a great player:

Micro
Hand Speed, Concentration and Reaction Time
Stamina and Mental Discipline
Build Order, Strategy, and Tactics

A lot of these things are things you won't get from posting an open-ended question on the forums. A lot of it is just practice, practice and more practice (focused, good practice, too, not just random practice) and experience. Given how good you are, there's little I can tell you specifically that will help you improve, but that's the stuff you do "once you are on par with top Korean zergs in terms of macro"...

I dont want to sound mean, but your macro wasnt particularly good..
Macro =/= larva injects..

And the reason why your larva injects were pretty good was because it was a 13 minute game where the terran didnt harass you at all.. The only time he even sent a unit outside his base was when he pushed out at 13 min and killed you.

Try having constant injects in a 30 minute zvt where terran is constantly pressuring you and you get on 5 bases.. If you can do that then your injects are on par with koreans.

I dont know why you killed his reactor instead of techlab researching stim with blings..
At first I was like "oh hes going to kill the techlab researching stim thats so gosu"
then u.. went for the reactor instead.. :|

your build didnt really make sense either.. You were so gas starved when your lair finished.. Could barely afford spire much less bling speed

the thing is i think you need to just.. watch that replay of dongraegu and play like that because i dont think your style is effective..

Well the obvious answer is learn to micro at as high a level.....

By macro, do you mean general macro, or specific builds. If you have one, get the other one down too. Learn 3 builds for each matchup and get them perfect. Take each build and find out how you deal with whatever the other person can throw at you.

EDIT: Okay form your replays your macro is actually poor. Read the above posts, and find a thread on how to macro as zerg. They are very helpful

Well... B is wrong, 29 scvs + 2 mules vs 36 drones is 39 scvs vs 36 drones... 3 isnt "WAY ahead" so reeeeeeeeeelax man and chill out

From what I have seen, your macro is not on par w/ Koreans. You can definitely work on that.
