As a terran player I giggle whenever anyone walls in the bottom of their ramp in a TvT, lawl.
Well, since you seem to know everything, which Protoss and Zerg builds compare to this build in terms of power early in the game?
Once scouted this build is as easy to hold off as a 4/5Gate, 7RR or a All in sling/blingbust. Either way I dont see what you are whining about, all the rage early on was how easy it was to 4gate compared to how hard it was to defend it and protosses who could not do anything but 4gate were playing 1600 Diamond. Once people figure it out the baddies will fall behind or move on to some other cheese.

It takes 100x more effort to defend this than to execute it. Welcome to Starcraft 2: Do you remember proxy gates, cannon rush, baneling burst, 5roach push, etc etc etc etc...
And I repeat, this is stupidly easy to stop. As terran you just wall off, as Zerg you just rush mass zerlings, as Protoss (this is the hardest) you need to chrono boost stalkers/zealots and pull all your drones, but you can even make a forge and cannons, so not a big deal. Oh, and sentry is maybe not worth it against this, but if you divide half of scvs on the ramp and kill them all, shouldn't be hard to stop it too.
As you can see there are lots of options to stop it. This cheese is almost useless when you've seen it 1 or 2 times, like almost all cheeses, even there are others really harder to learn to stop (bane burst, fast roaches push as protoss, proxy gate before it got nerfed...)

Im pretty bad, haha. I'm in bronze league but i play like a gold leaguer i've been told, i try this strat and i've won lots of games but i lose to stupid strats like a build that looks like a 4 gate but then out of no were i go in for the kill... BLAM 3 cannons with like 4 pylons around it or TvT he builds a bunder and surrounds it with supply depots, is it just me? Or there is just some builds that beat this?
|
Ha, I just lost to this yesterday (I was Z). I wasn't even close to stopping it. Figures I would see it on page one at TL.
|
the first day this thread existed, I lost to this strat right after reading it. (i play protoss and i'm diamond). I tried to chrono boost some sentries out but coudln't get enough in time, and he got to many scvs into my main and killed my sentry... Today I faced it again for the first time since and I chrono boosted out two extra stalkers after immediately throwing down a second gate. with 2 gates plush my initial 3 stalkers I was able to stop it pretty easily just kiting around my base and using my probes when necessary.

Excuse me if I'm being an idiot, but is this build executable by a higher rank bronze player? I am just starting this game so I'm trying to get the hell out of bronze ASAP (I really hate having to spam air almost every match).

Care to explain the logic behind that? You say you're a new player just starting out, so why don't just learn the game (solid builds, the mechanics of your race etc.) instead of cheesing your way to a skill level where you'll get your ass handed in and go back to square one once you cease using this?
Then again it's your call what you do with your game time, so yes it should be executable at your level once you got the BO and timings down.

I understand several builds and can carry them out quite well. I feel that I'm ready to move out of Bronze and the fastest way to do this is cheese. Plus it's a fun way to do it.

i think many lower league players are stuck in a metagame loop where they think their opponents are good so they base their strats around what they are facing, but if they ever got to diamond or above they would get crushed super easily
for example when i let my brother play my account he loses 30 games in a row and makes my MMR so low im facing silver leagers. then when i start playing i absolutely crush every single silver/gold/plat player in games that are retardedly easy and i get triple their score. I watch the replay and these guys have 200 apm and what seems to be good mechanics, their metagame just sucks
if a lower leager has good mechanics and is trying to get better, making him fight much better players than him is actually a good way to get him to improve as long as he watches the replays good and sees why he lost and trys to improve his technique
so if you wanna cheese a bunch and get to a higher league to face better players theres nothing wrong with that. but the goal of facing better players should be to lose and try to improve by figuring out why you lost

Hmm, I do see your point with this. I think I'll go and refine my realistic strategies instead of using cheese. Thank you for your insight.

Please upload one game where you face a silver player with good mechanics to back up your claim.

Question!
My friend read this thread and said he can easily beat this as protoss with a 2gate - 3 stalker rush. He did beat me hands down but that's because he's so damn perfect while my hand is crippled and not fit for micro-orientated strats like this.
So the ultimate question is, is this build(3rax) weak or strong against a 3 stalker rush with a 12gate double gate, chron'ing stalkers out?

Anything that involves a fast 2nd gate and chronoing units will crush that build. I prefer to warp 2 sentries and then get 2 stalkers cutting his army in half, but the 3 stalkers rush should hold with probes too.

This build will not work past the diamond level in my opinion. I have seen several players do this and when I see them wall the bottom of their ramp, I am instantly aware that something is up.

I tried this last night for the First time and got a Bad map for it (Slag Pits - couldn't wall it properly.. xD), but it still managed to work.. just got Lucky with the BarrackS hiding.
Good stuff, but I'll watch how often I use this in case I become too dependant on it..
Ps. I versed a Protoss

Ps. I versed a Protoss You can low wall Slag Pits. The only maps in the 1v1 pool that you can't are Tal'darim and Scrap Station.
Turn on the Build Grid and all you need to remember is that when you put the depo down, one yellow and green block need be next to each other with the depo on the outside. The barracks should then be next to one yellow square from the ramp and one square from the depo, with an empty square in the middle.
It doesn't look like a wall, but it is.

Oooh.. thanks for that - yeah I think I just visually tricked myself when it didn't look like a wall.
Hah.. will give it another shot sometime later

Excellent build. I'm a copper leaguer (metaphorically speaking), but I managed to get my sweet sweet 10 win achievement in 3 days. playing for less than 4 hours. Couldn't have happened without this build. Although I screwed it up every single time, I am 8-2 with this build.
My variation is different because I never once managed to get my ramp block right, so I had to do use two supplied, but then I attacked about 4 minutes later and still managed to roll over my opponent who was "slightly favored" every single time. The only time I lost was when the zerg cut drones and went fast roaches and I forgot to send my scvs with the marines and got slaughtered.
