It's things like this that just ruin SC2. If you know this is coming, it really shouldn't work at all, but yet it still works stupidly well when you know it's coming, at least ZvT.

It fails when you know it's coming, how do marines deal with spine crawlers ?

These things just keep us Zergs honest ... to be fair it's not a big cost to be safe, throw down 2 spines early, they will also be good against hellions or other bunker rushes.

First, you play protoss but can rank up much higher by doing 1 build in all 3 matchups with terran. Cheese is way too strong in SC2. Second, even playing against pro's you seem to only loose to blind counters (they see the low ground wall and coin flip I guess) Third, Every time I see one of these "Cheese into masters" type threads, it is always pointed out that it's easiest to win with vs toss. (Yet I never see any threads about how protoss can cheese into masters.) Fourth, even when protoss knows what your doing it takes great micro to beat, but zerg and terran can actually counter the build.

It just..... makes me sad.

Good job with the op (sincerely), pretty cool that you were able to do this. Thanks for sharing. You're awesome <3

PS. Terran players, just 1 rax expo with a wall at the low ground They have to blind counter the marine build. What choice do they have?

Okay, really not sure if serious. Protoss has the strongest and widest array of 1 base pushes and you're by no_freaking_means the most vulnerable race against all-ins - that'd be zerg by five thousand miles (at all levels.)

And yes, there are several protoss players reaching GM with nothing but timing pushes (IIRC there's even a mid GM toss on EU only doing 4g.)

What is this GM 4 gater's ID ?

You can see him doing almost only:
- 6 gate vs T
- 6 gate vs Z
- 4 gate vs P

So anyway I was kind of tired of all the people saying this build didn't work anymore etc... Especially Diamond and under players ^^
So I took my friend's account and laddered it from diamond to master in about 20 games (17-3) or something. I started losing a bit more at mid masters something like that (but still >50% W/L). I wonder if I could go back in GM league :D
Anyway, to all the people saying that it isn't working anymore : you're just not doing right !

Why isn't there a single build like this for protoss or zerg? Or something that comes even close to this.

Why bother? I played some customs with a kid who 3-raxed his way to platinum and was absolutely TERRIBLE at the game. He had no macro skills whatsoever. He even admitted that he had no idea what to do now that people knew how to stop him.

I had someone do this against me recently, I was kind of thrown off and just pulled all probes and fought him, since I had more probes (probably 20 by the time the attack hits), I won, but lost all but six workers.

He GGed because he hadn't been muling during the battle, but if he had I think we would have been even.

Mid level diamond player here. After reading the thread, I figured I'd play around with it a bit and see how well it did. So far, I'm 9-1, with more games to come. Uploaded a few games in case anyone cares enough to watch.

+ Show Spoiler +

I'm surprised I didn't see any spines on this one, but I didn't even get a chance to attack any drones before he leaves.

He had 2 hellions and a bunker with 3 marines when my push hit, he didn't pull SCV's until I had already taken out the bunker.

This was going to be my first attempt at a 3 rax, but I scouted a forge first expansion just before I was going to pull my scvs. Though I was behind on the scv count, I tried expanding as well, and the game turned into a 23 minute match.

My one loss with this build so far. His overlord scouts my extra rax, and he responds with lings and 2 spines. Also a case of terrible decision making on my part, because of just running past the spines to his main, I try to attack it head on. I'm sure you can guess how that goes.

This is just another example of how marines are overpowered in starcraft 2. (also realize that something doesn't need to cause advantageous winrates to be overpowered). I don't know why marines were given such instant attack animations, it's so stupid. In fact even having the instant-projectile is another thing that really helps the unit a lot. Roaches and stalkers aren't instant, why should marines be?

Trouble is, banelings shouldn't be the answer to this if you have good
micro/control. In fact, this baneling thing wasn't even a build order, and it wasn't even rushed banes per se (16hatch, 17 pool, 18 gas) he just frantically built it because he spotted scvs get pulled (map&position–specific scenario). If you moved your army to look for his army instead of going for the drones, the 2 banes (which were also lucky hits) could have gotten picked off before either hatching or at least before dealing much damage.

I've had a bit of success with this just massing zerglings and then attacking once they are quite deep in the creep, but oftentimes they don't get deep in the creep and can continually keep kiting/stutter-stepping, and once they're off-creep it's extremely inefficient.
With enough lings I can take out the attack, but it costs so much zerg economy zerg just gets put behind regardless.
One build that wouldn't hurt economy as much vs the build would be quick speedlings, but the problem with that build is that the economy is bad for any build other than marine rush, and the build generally needs to be executed before scouting

Take your stupid whines elsewhere. This is not thread related at all. Nobody is interested in your opinions about balance, especially not when you're a noname zerg just in here to shed some tears. God damnit, don't turn the strategy forum into live report quality - it's already low enough as it is.

This thread explains a lot. Started playing again for the first time since last year and loosing badly, especially to T and marines...

So as Z I haven't even figured out how to hold it, but I'm starting to do early speed at maps like metalopolis and xel'naga because they run past my spines anyway. Kind of funny I guess, I bet this thread alone created a significant effect in w/r ratios on bnet.
