Or is there anyway to make use of the fast DPS of an unsieged tank?
Is there any reason to not get the siege upgrade, for Siege Tanks?

However, using tanks unsieged can be good if you have flat out superior numbers. You see it a lot when some guy only has one or two sieged tanks + marines versus about 7-8 unsieged + marines, you just bust the lower number of tanks. Otherwise, it's not going to work that well.

Keep them unsieged if you don't intend to make a strong full push, but to just do a bad run-by or poke.

- If your opponent roach drops on you, you're better off unsieging, killing roaches as they drop and letting their high dps go to town instead of splashing all over your own units. - Very strong against stalkers - Often times better than sieged tanks for a-moving an opponent's tank line, as the siege time takes too long and unsieged tanks are very good against sieged tanks

![]() So in Tank VS Tank situation, an unsieged tank will win.

Dont get the upgrade if you don't intend on making a lot of tanks past the first couple youre using for your rush. In high numbers getting the upgrade is really beneficial, otherwise marauders are more cost efficient.

A siege tank, unsieged, will deal higher DPS against an armored target than an tank in siege mode. So, if a tank won't be dealing splash damage, it will deal more damage unsieged. Also, against ultralisks, it's better to be unsieged, and against buildings, unsieged. (The large ones)

(The large ones) against ultralisks i find the best method is to let the tanks shoot once from max range, then unsiege and start shoot-n-scooting.

(The large ones) this basically sums it up. although for static defense (cannons, bunkers, spines, PFs), the range is helpful - although it'll take longer to kill the building, you can hit it without taking damage in return.

Siege Tank has a range of 7, unupgraded PF's have only 6 range.

Specifically i remember doing a push with marines raven + tank without siegemode vs toss back in beta when i played terran. It was quite strong and i honestly dont know why no one is using it. But i guess it was early beta and every1 was just doing 1base pushes. IDK but they are suprisingly strong against stalkers and roaches.

as for if there is a point in not getting siege tech, there is just about as much of a point in not getting it as there is in not getting zergling speed, collossi range, hydra range, ultra armor and to a lesser extent roach speed. i.e. those upgrades are (in the current metagame) practically essential to get, even if you only get a mere handful of the associated unit, and those few times that you don't get it, you better have damn good reason. (example: you don't get zergling speed when 6-pooling, even if your main army is composed of zerglings: the damn good reason: you cant afford it)

1. Broodlords 2. Units being dropped on top of my army. Now, if the question was why you wouldn't even research siege mode? I have no idea, it makes tanks so much more threatening 99% of the time. Just be wary of the splash damage.

Lots of 1 base pushes vs P involved 4-5 tanks unsieged with raven + banshee and marines. Very polt timing push like. I use a TvT build sometimes, or used to before hellion gayness, where I push with 15 marines 3 unsiege tanks and 1 medic to quick elevator and work on their base. In short -- they aren't at ALL useless without siege

To break siege lines you pre spread into a nice big concave. stim 3-5 marines seperate and run them in, then send the rest in and manually pick off tanks with your tanks and stim hop the marines (at least what I do) Of course theres a limit depending on the tank count, but unsieged tanks can be vicious because of the high DPS and mobility.
