i have a very similar question. Sorry if it's a stupid question, but is there like an online SC2 'bible', i.e. some website or book that covers everything from the basics to how to play the match-ups, different tricks, etc. liquipedia is cool, but i dont really know where to start. i guess the strategy guides you can buy in stores dont even scratch the surface...
if not... why not!

probably extractor trick to 11 first, but i'm not sure why you would do either one, generally if you ET to 11 it's so you can make a pool then make an OL after, and have the OL in time to pump 3 larvae worth of lings for a rush as soon as the pool pops, and if you want to be economical then you should be getting overlord at 9 and you dont need the ET
as for the guys asking for a "newb strategy guide", day[9] is a good place to start and i'm sure some people can specify an episode for learning the basics

That's not so much a problem of overbuilding workers, but underbuilding combat units. If you can't build units fast enough out of your existing production structures, then build more of them, or sink the money into upgrades and better production structures.

Try Day9's Newbie Tuesday.
Also for each match up, just pick one strat and stick with it. You aren't going to win every game, but in early leagues it's all about learning macro and management. It doesn't matter if you can pick the ideal strategy and counter build if you're sitting on 2k minerals.

Try and place them over cliffs, on the outside edge (ie the space station maps), or along paths where units don't usually run, but where you'll have vision of the regular paths. Obviously, you'll always be vulnerable to viking/phoenix sniping, but it should keep them mostly safe from the ground forces.

Is there a way to get a unit or building out of a control group?

Specifically, for a basic intro, try Day9 daily #132, titled "Back to the Basics". It can be found by going to day9tv.blip.tv and going to the "episode archive" link on the right; all the dailies are numbered so it's pretty easy to find.
If you want more, watch dailies #252 ("Secrets of Hotkeys, APM, and Mouse Movement) and #258 ("Newbie Tuesday: Refining Mechanics") and #261 ("Newbie Tuesday: Mechanics #2").
If you like day9, it's informative check out his dailies on occasion, especially his Newbie Tuesday dailies; however, he does like to chat and talk and joke around and if you don't like his humor, I suspect that the dailies will drag on too long for you.

Shift click on the unit/building itself or in the control group section on the bottom

thank you both. i was really looking for more something to read (i'm a reading nerd, plus i could do it at work), but have to say, Day9's knowledge of the game from the dailys i've watched is amazing... this is really helpful being pointed in the right direction as to where to start, within these. He should write a book, i'd totally buy that no matter how it was priced.

No, it's just called a LAN tourney when you have to be present at the location to take part. The game is still played online on battle.net

^best bet is probably SC2 replayed, I doubt there would be alot since the pro's rarely ladder they play customs against one another usually and customs are rarely uploaded.

But then you have to Press Ctrl+# again to actually set the new control group. Otherwise, you're only changing the active selection.

Hi:
As terran, I despise having observers in my base. Is there a simple, (non-over-reactory), way to deny observers for terrans?
thankyou

Is a Void Ray Rush still possible ? I played in the end of the beta and right after the release for some weeks. Then I had to quit Starcraft because I had not enough time. At that time Void Ray Rushes used to be awesome is that still the case ? Or did they nerf the Void Ray so that is not good at all nowadays ?

A Raven is never a bad investment. Its spells and its detection more than cover the cost. It keeps you safe from DTs and can prevent a lot of damage with PDD. Get a Raven. Also, it is worth a scan to kill an observer if you know where it is and have enough to kill it.

In a way, yes. Void Rays have found their very powerful niches in the game. While I don't recommend rushing straight to Void Rays unless you know what you're doing, they are an incredible part of a mid game army, especially when mixed with Colossi and Gateway units.

Building one Missle Turret isn't over reactionary. You should have an Engineering Bay anyway for upgrades.

right. this seems a little silly at first, but keep in mind that observers come out of the same production facility as collosus, so they will have fewer collosi if you keep killing observers OR they will just have fewer observers.
zooming in and tilting the angle also lets you spot them a little bit better.
most players in lower leagues tend to just send them to your army and will also send them straight into a turret if you put one at your choke. also useful against DTs just waltzing into yo base
