So I might as well ask a question:
In TvP, what's a good reaction to a 15 nexus on Tal'Darim altar if you were opening going for a 1 rax gasless FE? Is it worth it to try to bunker rush him, or add more rax? Go for a ghost timing attack, like thorzain did to huk in valencia. Very strong off of two base. In a huge map it's almost guaranteed they're going to quick tech to collossi or ht. Both cases a ghost timing push has a chance to end the game right there. if you don't end it right there and he's got colossi, you are dead. Indeed. There's also the possibility he's going for some hilarious 6gate or some other 2-base all-in, or that he's playing it safe and going for a 3rd; I can't rely on him to rush colossi or HT. I feel like coming off of a 15 nexus, he'll have a distinct advantage in that respect. Any other suggestions? I probably shouldn't be talking but can you factor in a raven for any surprise (e.g. proxy) DA detection and occasional PDD vs stalkers? Should be helpful in dealing with the main army and without it the tech can't survive for too long (and if he feedbacks it, that's one storm less). Then if only one PDD is needed or 0 and there is nothing to detect, the raven can go harass some mineral line or two while the armies are fighting. I'm kinda hooked on this unit of late. Ravens are cool units. I like ravens, and may consider incorporating them more often in my play-- thanks for the advice. I'm not sure this directly addresses my concern, though, which is: when I am going for a 1 rax FE and scout 15 Nexus on a map like Tal'Darim, what should I do? Currently my strategy is "bunker rush him" which has, of course, limited success. I've considered just going ahead with the FE, but I feel like it will be behind with 15 Nexus. What's the best way to leverage the tech and production advantages of a 1 Rax FE against a 15 Nexus? Or should I just slap down rax and bunker rush him more ;_; I'm not too sure either, but i've been bunker rushing my tvps in your situation too.(i open reaper in almost all my tvps but it doesn't matter) If I scout not cross positions, I'll add on 3 rax for a total of 4 and put on heavy aggro. I've been using fast shells 1 rax marauder 3 rax marine. If it's cross positions I think it would be best(if you're committed to 1 basing) to start with bunker pressure and follow it up with a stim timing. If you open gasless, I would recommend either getting gas for a tech lab, or going for 6 rax straight up (probably proxy 3 of them). I find that if you open with too few rax and no gas, when stalkers get out you get pretty behind, given that toss has good control and macro.
So it seems that bunker rush / 1 base barracks allin with my banked minerals the strategy you use. It might be that this is the only solution-- I was just hoping for some sort of non-allin. ._. back to practicing el bunker rusho then.

What's the best way to leverage the tech and production advantages of a 1 Rax FE against a 15 Nexus? Or should I just slap down rax and bunker rush him more ;_; I'm a noob but I'd either all-in him (if I understood it correctly, a certain TvP guide here recommended a thor all-in in such a situation) or prepare some nasty harass for both of his mineral lines to hit at the same time, like queue some production, plant two medivacs full of whatever somewhere near his mineral lines, then 3d-click-4d-click, possibly on minimap, then possibly save the one force which he chases (if he doesn't split or actually also if he does) and hop it over to join the other force (stimmed from hotkeys by that time, if bio). Should at least kill some workers and scare him a lot, perhaps prompt him to plant cannons instead of replacing workers, whatever. In the meantime, I'd be building stuff in base or expanding. I sometimes do drop harass followed very soon by banshee harass, whenever I can get away with it and FE sounds like I can. But I may be wrong, I'm only silver right now. I suppose a better player might prefer to focus on expanding behind some hit and run harass.
I'm not sure I fully explained my situation. I'm talking about a TvP in which my initial plan is to go for a 1 rax FE-- this means I make a 12 barracks and just sort of hang out, making marines and scvs, and not mining gas, until I have enough minerals for a CC. My vespene geysers are heavily delayed, and usually when I scout the 15 Nexus I have 1 OC, 1 Barracks, a couple of marines, hundreds of minerals banked, and no vespene gas or refineries. For me to go for a thor all-in or rush drops or banshees would be sub-optimal due to the delay in gas income. If I were opening with Warden's TvP, I'd be getting 2 very fast gasses, and both Thor allin and banshee rush would be on the table. As it stands, they are not-- the allins at my disposal are marine or bio allins and bunker allins, and although his tech is pretty far behind due to the 15 Nexus, I'm not sure a tech harass or tech all-in will hit him in time.
So I guess, in the end, I think I know the score: Q: What do if you are 1 rax FE and scout a protoss 15 Nexus? A: Bunker rush or bio allin.

Ooops, sorry, I failed to realise that you were reacting immediately upon noticing that, before even having gas. I'm not sure I would decide to attack him at that point. Maybe I'd skip expanding and prepare a big bioball to hit some time after he maynards but more likely I'd proceed with my own plan and just prepare to harass him.

So I just played against a protoss who says his main account is a plat zerg, and I he suggested I go broodlords. The whole time i tried to get an ovie inside his base to scout but he had cannons on every single opening. So had I scouted his colo bay, I wouldve made a spire and gone BL's. When we talked about it after the game, he said "You can't rely on scouting with zerg, it's all instinct." So I ask is this a load of crap, or is he absolutely right which explains why im still silver?

Whether or not you go broodlords depends on the state of the game, how many bases you're one, what protoss is doing, etc. I'd have to see a replay. It sounds like your adversary was turtling on 1 base with cannons. If you see this happen, you're going to want to take your Natural Expansion to try to get ahead on economy, then make a large, balanced army to deal with the allin he will send your way.

Not to mention that the fact that your overlord saw so many cannons up is a sign itself that much of his resources are into static defense and not into army or economy. Scouting is equal parts what tech you see, what tech you don't see, and other things that allow you to infer his plans.

What's the point of the Warpgate --> Morph to Gateway button? Has any pro ever used it? Is there any situation where it could possibly be useful?

Let's say you're up against a zerg player whose entire remaining "army" is an extractor. Your entire remaining forces consist of a single pylon filled to the brim with warpgates and cannons. Unfortunately, there is no remaining power field for you to warp units in on. So you morph your warpgate into a gateway, make a zealot, and kill the extractor, thereby not having a draw.

What is the best (non-2rax) build to use as a Terran against a Fast Expanding Zerg?
|
With the recent nerf on blink, is it possible for a macro oriented play in PvP if the other toss decides to 1base colo all in?
|
So you know those infestor builds that spam infested terrans? Why don't more zergs bring overlords with speed and use them to spread creep right at the areas where you spawn your infested terrans? It would seem like the creep would really help them catch up to units which is there biggest weakness.
|
I don't think infested terrans are faster on creep.
|
|
|
Infested terrans do walk faster on creep indeed.

How many mutas do you need to engage stalkers cost-efficiantly (supposing equal upgrades)? is there even a critical mass, or will it allways be a bad engagement?

I have lots of problems with paying attention to the different things I am supposed to be doing. I have played lots and lots of customs (I am about 1600 on starbattle for example...), but everytime I try to break into playing ladder I am getting crushed in wood league.
For example, when playing zerg I will forget overlords. If I remember my overlords, I miss making enough drones. If I make overlords and drones, then I will miss microing my army or teching. How am I supposed to remember to do all of these things at the same time?!??!
|
|
|
now after the patch... only the real APM counts...
Now I'm asking myself what are the "average" Number of APM for the all leagues?
i hope my question is clear
