So, without regard to unit placement or comp, is it ever a good idea to thrust your units in a bit, or should I just stick with trying for a good arc? I can think of the following possibilities, at least that is when i step in: 1) If you get the feeling the opponent will try to flee, it is always nice to step in, especially with marauders and their slow. 2) If you want to kill something behind the enemy frontlines (again protossexample, select some marauders and try to go for the colossus) 3) kinda like 1) if you have 2-3 rows of units not firing, and your opponent has no 2nd or 3rd row of units, move in for the kill. 4) run up to tanks when you have enough marauders to bust the siege line

When fighting a MMM force, is it wise to target down the medivacs at the start of a fight?

What's the standard protoss counter to roach/hydra? I feel like those two units close all the gaps so very well. Tanking units up front, DPS in back, armored and light, ground attacks and anti-air, larger slow attacks and small fast attacks.

Colossus are your friend. Use the colossus to melt away the hydras, and your gateway units should be able to deal with the roaches. Also, a lot of protoss are putting voids into their main army nowadays, along with 4-5 colossus. It is extremely effective, so if you are talking about late game i definitely reccomment voidray/colossus/stalker with however many sentries you feel are appropriate.

Are GSL or other tournament players allowed to switch races between games and/or rounds? Like if you want to play multiple races do you have to choose Random?

Seems to me that a tournament is supposed to test the player, not the race so you should.be able to play whatever race you want whenever you want. If there were such a rule I would say its a bad rule.

As far as maximizing your points on the ladder, do you get screwed if you play without bonus pool? (I know, it's not strategy.)
|
As far as maximizing your points on the ladder, you don't really get 'screwed' because the bonus pool is just meant to make up for inactivity.
To the question about changing races in a tournament, I don't know what their specific rules are, but I could offer a good reason why it wouldn't be allowed. Tournaments generally have some sort of qualification that those entering are worthy, whether it's SC2 or whatever else. If you qualify as Terran, and you decided you wanted to play Zerg, which you suck at, it's not fair to the tournament as far as the quality of the product they are putting out.

I'm Z, what should I do against T mech ?
|
In ZvT, if I see 2 fact with/ tech labs early, how will I know if it's early seige tanks or blue flame hellions?

Too vague....but generally you want to abuse immobility by using Mutalisks to harass areas where there is little to no AA. Picking off tanks or tech labs when the Terran army is out of position works really well. Also upgraded roaches do extremely well against mech as long as you are decent at positioning.

You really can't tell unless you see it pop out. But generally, I would assume hellions because you cannot effectively afford double tank production + siege mode with the gas income you have in the early game. Doesn't mean tanks aren't possible but I'd guess hellions with a transition into tanks if there are tech labs on both factories.

it's tournament specific. i think most tournys let you change race 1 time and sometimes you have to notify your intent in advance

blue flame hellions only need 1 tech lab, so it would be tanks, if you see 1 tech and 1 reactor then it'd be hellions

I would really like to start playing Starcraft II on Battle.net but I would really have to read something about the basics, basic strategies and so on. Does anyone know a good beginner's guide for Protoss and/or Zerg ? Maybe even a Video Guide ?

Welcome to TeamLiquid!
My first suggestion is to check out this thread:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=192233
It's a collection of threads that we feel as a community is worthy of being recommended to other players. New players will benefit the most from this.
Next, check out Liquipedia, it's such an awesome SC2 reference thread.
Finally, watch Day9 @day9tv.blip.tv. He gives great, great commentaries and dailies that cover everything you could possibly think of.
Enjoy!

Is there any way to unveil hallucinated units without having detection?
So for example clicking on them and read important information from the info box, that differ from these from real units?
please PM me

Well, i feel like i want to actually get into this game and i want to know the standard BO(s) for Terran Matchups. I searched Standard but i really dont know where to start.. so i think it would be easier to straight up ask for the standard builds.

Best way to surround is to move-command past the enemy army until your lings look like they have a decent surround, and then just attack-move That'll net you a solid surround!

I think the answer to this really depends on your army size, the opponent army size, the number of medivacs, and their health, but generally speaking, I don't believe so. Keep in mind that Medivacs only heal one unit at a time, so if it's a huge battle and only a few Medivacs, then the healing won't have as much of an effect as if, say, it's 4 Marauders and 4 Medivacs constantly healing each one.
