Don't take more then 3 bases if the toss stays on one base and expect one of these: DT's Mass air One base collosus These are the most common. All should be easily scoutable as well. Get a couple overseers and continually poke the main toss, contaminate what you can, try sending in changelings. Get a spore and two spines plus atleast one queen at every base. If they still havnt moved out or expanded.... just go fucking kill him At high levels, one basing protoss is definitely not DTs or Colossus. 1 base colo is garbage vs zerg and if you are going DTs, you have enough minerals to get an expansion up. If your opponent stays on 1 base, most likely he is trying to hit some sort of timing with either 3 gate + stargate or 4 gate blink stalkers. You can expect something is up if he hasn't expanded by 6:30 which is standard time for safe play. Once again, this is for people who know what they are doing. Plat league and under, a late expansion could mean just about anything... On May 24 2011 18:39 Rylaji wrote: Blizzard confirmed this is a bug, they are fixing it. Once fixed you will getpromoted if you earned it. http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/2580698045#1 Due to an issue with the Grandmaster league we’ve temporarily locked league reassignments. This means that all ranked games are correctly awarding (and subtracting) points, all changes to player’s internal matchmaking rating continue to be made, but the ability to be promoted/demoted to a different league is temporarily on-hold. When this lock is released, the next win will process the correct standing and any league reassignments will be carried out as they would have. We currently have a hotfix for the Grandmaster issue in testing, and expect it to be implemented very soon. Once the fix is in and verified the lock will be removed and league standings will continue as normal. We’ll make another announcement at that time. It’s important to note, again, that your games played now continue to count toward your standing and a possible league reassignment.

Lings first, they have almost the same dps as roaches, but much lower hp. For such situations you could use one of the unit tester maps(or just place those units in the editor yourself), which will allow you to easily test the possible outcomes.

Up to 30-40 food, this is in your BO and you should just learn by heart when to build supply structures. After that, day9 advises you to build more than 1 pylon at a time. For example if you see you are going to reach your food limit, throw down 2-3 pylons (depots/ overlords). Generally when playing, your eyes should always go back and forth between the minimap and the food count. You can take habits such as : Whenever you look at the minimap, look at your food right after. When ever you warp stuff in (spawn, train) check your food count. If ever you are pylon blocked, don't worry too much. Either you have too many production facilities (you are transitioning out of 4 gate for example) and you'll be able to catch up soon, or, if you are tight on production facilities, use the time you are pylon blocked (resources pile up) to either expand or upgrade stuff. The most important thing is to keep your money low.

I highly, highly, highly recommend the "Macro or Die" UMS map. It's a ton of fun even though it's just practicing basic macro.

I seem to be able to kill 2or 3 mutas with my stalkers before they move away. but what is better? should I tech to archons as im already got the citadelfor blink and then only need a dark shrine or templar archives? how are storm vs mutas? where do I aim for storm to actually hit them? i know people say where the shadows but they normally have 100s of lings too which I seem to have enough zealots to deal with. Changing to stargate for phoenixis wont do alot once they have a certain amount if ive originally gone for stalkers as standard expecting the norm roaches. Technically the answer to mutas when you go 3 gate expand is to just kill him before he gets mutas (or when they first come out - if you attack him, he'll be forced to use them to defend), which you should have scouted out with hallucinations. But I know that's not your question... Blink is still your best answer, you just have to be patient and persistent. Keep your stalkers in 2 groups so you can defend both your bases, as well as trying to cut off the escape path of mutas with 1 group while the other group chases them away. If you're not doing so already, you should moving into range of the mutas, attacking, and then blinking to chase - instead of blinking into range to start attacking. Also targetting individual mutas is very important. In the past archons are not that great because they are big and slow, but the range upgrade might have made them a bit better in defending against mutas. I don't know, I haven't used them. You definitely want storm though. Aim for the shadow, turn on the flyer helper setting in the options if you haven't already.

I'd also add that putting 1 or 2 cannon in your mineral lines is always a good idea. They buy a lot of time for your blink stalker to come back and defend and are therefor extremely cost efficient. But yes before that when you poke and scout only speedlings and spine crawlers with no roaches, you can be 90% sure that fast mutas are coming. I would suggest you have a good 5-6 gate push ready for that eventuality. Against a good protoss, Zergs should never be able to pull off 2 base fast mutas without taking a lot of damage.

Thanks, just as I started working out how to counter roachs effectively I seem to be playing muta zergs instead lol. I always use 2-4 cannons on bases depending on which one and how far it is away from my main. My main problem is when they have quite a few muta they move out of range before I get close if I dont get close enough by using blink. So after defending vs mutas and then having to face them sometimes in open battle I seem to find it difficult to do enough damage with them especially when stalkers auto focus ground over air. Do you only select like 5-6 stalkers and focus on different mutas with the different sets of stalkers. Seems time consuming when I wont be able to use my zealots and sentrys from the fast expand effectively. You also show a good point with using hallucinations which I always seem to forget so mayb I should just focus on making sure I get haluuciaitons all the time regardless of how I play until I rememeber. So should I be going 6 gateways once ive fast expanded and just push? Should have at least +1 waepaons if not +2 weapons.

And Before that I went soemthing like 5 wins 15 losses a few weeks before that. SOits probably that im close to getting demoted to plat, so it may have soemthign to do with the fact your playing players on losing streaks who are close to getting demoted too.

I wasn't aware that stalkers auto focus ground over air, but regardless you should always be targetting individual mutas with your stalkers. I feel the biggest weakness of 3 gate expand is the fact that you can't scout, so IMO getting hallucination immediately after warpgate tech finishes is crucial. +1 weapons is great for zealots vs lings, but actually armor upgrades should be prioritized over attack upgrades when fighting muta/ling since mutas have a 3 bounce attack and lings have low damage/fast attack speed.
