Just sayin'. =) On August 31 2012 18:42 IeZaeL wrote: Please XenoX , please make the mod free to edit and download in the editor ! Please !! They said to me that they will be releasing some guidelines about what Heart of the Swarm content people are allowed to use in Wings of Liberty, so it is something they will be enforcing across the board, not just my map specifically. It is upsetting for us but I think they are well within their right to defend their Heart of the Swarm IP, and I think we should be happy that we had this opportunity right up to the Beta, over 9 months of Heart of the Swarm actions without any concerns. Blizzard emailed me today about some concerns they have of the mod becoming too similar to the Closed Beta, the potential for confusion and conflict between the custom and beta versions of Heart of the Swarm, and how in being so similar my map technically will allow people to bypass the Closed aspect of the Beta. As such, the maps will be taken down from all servers as of Monday, 3rd of September 2012. I say this now so that people can make the most of the limited time left on the maps before it goes down. So I guess this will be it for the mod, I will say though that it's been a good run, and much of where the mod is today is thanks to all the feedback you guys were able to provide. I hope that everyone made the most of the opportunity they had, and looks forward to doing the same thing in the real Heart of the Swarm some time in the near future. I am glad that I was able to work on such a project and provide people this great opportunity to experience Heart of the Swarm. As far as my map-making ventures are concerned. I have an entirely unrelated project called Micro Match that I still need to finish, which hopefully will be out sometime in the not too distant future, but no deadlines yet. So thanks again for all your support, and I hope you make the most of these last moments before the maps go down.

I find this a bit pathetic, Hots multiplayer needs to have some more going for it than just 6 new units for it to be sucessful. Ah well thanks xenox for all your hard word. Cheers buddy had a great time playing your maps. ![]() Ignoring the fact that Blizzard is entirely within their rights to do so, and the fact that they logically would have done this at some point, it makes sense. If, during the WoL beta for example, somebody had come up with a homebrew game that was basically the same, the same thing would be happening. It's starting off as a closed beta, they want it to be closed, and they want to limit confusion. Chill out.

Anyway, thanks for your work XenoX. EDIT: The fact that millions of dollars just got re-created in a user created map LOL, that is pretty funny when you think about it.

Well, that sort of implies that we would have made the exact same design decisions as Blizzard, which, well, wouldn't have happened. Take the Mothership Core for instance, a unit design that was frankly a stroke of genius. We've just been copying the stuff they've thought through and implemented it amongst the community. It's had a great run, but it's no surprise that it should come to an end.

I don't see how if you changed the name they could do anything about it? especially since it's a basically a custom melee map, it's like your version of SC2, tons of map makers do it. Maybe it means the beta is coming on tuesday, but even so, we should try and keep this alive, it's way too fun.

It's had a great run, but it's no surprise that it should come to an end. Thanks for pointing this out, I feel this really needs to be stressed. Designing and balancing the units is by far the most difficult part of creating Heart of the Swarm, and something that I could never, ever, have done on my own to anywhere near the success that Blizzard has. My job was simply to take the finished product, and clone it within the editor. Like covering a song from another band, I cannot take credit for the lyrics - so to speak - of Heart of the Swarm. And of course this isn't to say that my job was easy, some of the recreations were indeed quite difficult, but the difficulty was only in producing the content not in coming up with the ideas in the first place, that responsibility rested solely on Blizzard's shoulders.
