Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone else here is addicted to the game Mafia. I love the game so much!
Let's answer some questions to start this thread off:
What are your favourite roles to play in Mafia? My favourite roles are: Escort/Consort, Doctor, and Citizen.
What are your least favourite roles? My least favourite roles are: Arsonist and Serial Killer.
What are your favourite moments in Mafia? The best games I've played usually ends with "Nobody Wins".
Who are your favourite Mafia players? Footy, just Footy.
Who are your least favourite Mafia players? Bad mannered people. Don't mind cheaters as much as rude people, though they ruin the game just as much.
What in-game names do you use a lot? Plato, Plato the Mayor, DR is my baby boy...
What hats and models do you use? I use the Officer hat, and the Female model a lot.
How much do you play? A lot. Too much, I don't have a life.
Do you cheat? People say or think I do, but I don't. I just play a lot.
Is Dark.Revenant awesome? Yes, almost as much as Footy.

I like a nailbitingly close game but liked one game I played where everyone left except 3 ppl and we were gf and 2 sks :D then we killed each other on the first night and no one won :D I play about 3 per week but I'm BEAST! I copy another players identity, like If someone picked the name "TehTemplar" I'd pick "TehTemplar." with a period. I dislike ppl who cheat. I don't mind trolls, mass idiots, or someone that hates me though.

This is not an action game.
This is a survival game.
After the roles are selected, they are randomly given to the players.
Nobody knows who anyone else is.
Colours are randomised and names are player-chosen; in Mafia, you are a new person.
The goal is to achieve your role's objective and, if possible, survive until the end.
Death is permanent. There is no mercy. Trust only yourself.

What are your favourite roles to play in Mafia? My favourite roles are: Jester, Arsonist and Vigilante.
What are your least favourite roles? My least favourite roles are: Survivor, Witch, Janitor.
What are your favourite moments in Mafia? When the matches are so close! Usually 2-3 townies left with1-2 mafia or SK with no invest/sheriff.
Who are your favourite Mafia players? People who can logically deduce...
Who are your least favourite Mafia players? Laggers. Holy shit man, gtfo!! You ruin the game for everyone!
What in-game names do you use a lot? Oscar Mancy.
What hats and models do you use? Basic one. My damn points keep resetting.
How much do you play? Whenever I get a chance to.
Do you cheat? No. I'm not even sure how you can cheat or why you would want to.
Is Dark.Revenant awesome? OFC. Thank you so much for making such an amazing game.

Ask DR, about your points resetting.

It's actually not on the front page on the EU servers.

If you like this, you guys should play TL forum mafia. So much better and it actually takes skill. You actually analyze people instead of voting for people because of their name.

Hidden forum. Ask for access here.
Forum mafia takes more skill, is more epic, and does not rely on making split second decisions. It's based on discussion and analysis.

To each his own, I guess. I find that there's very little tension in a game which takes 10 minutes, especially when it's plagued with players who like to lynch the most vocal townies.
I don't play SC2 mafia much, but the few games I did play had very little discussion, and were mostly just bandwagon fests.
Has the skill level on B.net improved?

so to answer your question, no

@youngminii I'm not ragging on them for enjoying it. SC2 mafia is very well made and enjoyable, but in my opinion TL mafia is better. I apologize if my posts gave a different impression.

The only 1hour game I've had was because I've had 2 simultaneous laggers who took turns lagging, but never 45seconds in succession. Surprisingly no one left.
But no the skill level is pretty bad. There are a lot of casuals as well as a lot of others who don't know how to use their roles effectively. I've only had one memorable game which was down to four players with escort, citizen, arsonist and sheriff (me). Everyone played their roles perfectly and the arsonist almost convinced me he was the escort in the meanwhile the escort role-blocked the arsonist while we were all doused. I managed to come up with the question: "which previous round was I blocked," and the first person to answer correctly was the escort.

:D EU players are smarter...

I used to play this game IRL with my friends all the time and then I saw it in custom games and had to change my pants lol. I absolutely love this game. I like being the mafia or a citizen.

:O
There are many new roles:
Blackmailer: silences one person during the day, alignment with mafia. Useful against sheriff, I guess.
Bodyguard: protects a person; if protected person get attacked, bodyguard and attacker both dies.

What I've noticed is that the average skill level of the games is so ridiculously bad that they need to overpower town (all townies having a power), which works well with the 'fun' nature of having mass power roles (changes the game from an analysis game to relying on power roles which is more fun for newbies). The synergy of the two makes the game perfect for a person new to the game, which is my theory as to why it's as popular as it is.

Just play in a party if you can't handle the random trolls/noobs.
|
It seems people who play Mafia on SCII don't really like the Clue Mode.
When I host, I always play the Clue mode, cause I think it's the most fun mode. They say Mafia is OP in Clue mode. But when I play as town, I always win.
o.O
Noob much? Lol.
|
This is pretty boring online IMO.
I play this IRL with friends all the time, so much fun.
|
Lol, you're wrong. It's quite fun online. You just need to invite your friends to play, that's all.
|
Hm, but I find the fun part about the game is acting on the spot, being questioned. You have to be good at arguing and don't look nervous.
This doesn't apply online.

Gotta love witch hunt mode:
- Godfather - Mafioso - Sheriff - Vigil - Witch x 6 - Jester
|
i love mafia. just can't stand when night seq is left on. Favorite role would have to be sheriff or investigator.
|
Yeah nobody likes the night sequence, I think.
I love sheriff/invest, but I am never trusted.

Game is unbearable to play on the ladder with random people. Mafia requires too much thinking and reasoning for the average custom ladder user.
If you want to play with people that actually are good and know how to play go to channel "Mafia". Darkrevenant is constantly there along with all the top point leaders. You can help test new versions with new roles, variants, options before they are released and help find any bugs. Mafia is even funner when you constantly play with the same people so you can start to have rivalries. Theres usually about 30 people in the channel at all times and enough people to have a full pre-made lobby full of good, thinking people who want to play.
|
Can DR come to the Europe Server to play with me?
|
Lol @ 3 people left in town.
"This town is too small to have a bus." xD
|
lol everyone is worse than me at this game on sc2 (Not a good thing if i am Bonjwa) TL Mafia ftw!
|
How can everyone be worse than you?
Mafia is more like a team game.
|
this is probably the only good thing that sc2 has so far :p
amazing mod!
|
i enjoyed it when i first started playing but recently i've been experiencing alot of leavers and cheaters using skype
|
This map is AMAZINGLY fun.
But it is easily ruined by skype/vent cheaters... which... why would u play this game if u cheat like that. completely ruins the entire point of the map...
Its like playing poker with your friends and they hold their cards backwards so you see what they have... what is the point. Do u still feel cool if you win? I dont get it.. this is what killed the map Phantom Mode for me as 90% of the games turn into 4-5 people on one team sharing their role with eachother...hope this doesnt happen more in Mafia as this map is the only custom map i play atm.
on a side note- won a game for the townies as an escort today. Was able to point out all 2 mafia and an arsonist using block. Was AWSOME. blackmailer spam blackmailed me for first 4 days and i had to spam vote on lynch;s to show people i was being blackmailed. And then i figured out who BM'er was with a block so we got him. Then Bodyguard blocked correctly and got a 2nd mafia. Then i figured out Mafia by chain blocking some1 and no1 died so i realized he was last mafia. Then chain blocked arsonist ftw. WOOOT was awsome. /end brag
As someone who used to play this game ALL the time with friends/family i really enjoy it.. would be fun to get a group of 5-10 regulars and play this together, but not cheating with vent or something cause then it is stupid. I like the map and think its a great version of mafia and really fun.
You get a good game about1/5 tho I will admit it. Most of the games are retarded just "lets kill X... cause his name is dumb". But 1/5 are really good/interesting games.
|
I've played this game a lot with my friends, and there's a lot of fun to it, the creator has added a ton of roles compared to the usual forum mafia, or chat mafia.
What are your favourite roles to play in Mafia? Jester, because it's just awesome.
What are your least favourite roles? Citizen, Lonely mason, because you have nothing to do at night
What are your favourite moments in Mafia? "Let's kill someone because nothing is happening right now"
Who are your favourite Mafia players? I'm bad with names.
Who are your least favourite Mafia players? People who think they logically conclude something, but they conclusion is utter retarded, the worst part is when everyone just blindly follows them.
Also players who brag over randomly lynching or shooting someone as vigilante, and getting a bad guy, i don't care if you killed a bad guy, it might as well have been a bloody civilian.
What in-game names do you use a lot? Serial Killer, Names someone else takes, but switch the letters (John Doe / Dohn Joe)
What hats and models do you use? Standard
How much do you play? Not too much lately, the european mafia channel is a little desolate, and pugs are terrible in 4/5 games.
Do you cheat? Can you even cheat? I talk to friends over skype, but we reveal no information about discoveries or class to eachother.
Is Dark.Revenant awesome? Haven't i seen this name in wc3?

On May 24 2011 09:35 Kenpachi wrote: lol everyone is worse than me at this game on sc2 (Not a good thing if i am Bonjwa) TL Mafia ftw!
Yeah... Whoever said try the channel for better games, the channel still has to skill up some, haha
Just played a game, with pretty stacked roles for town (Read: No vanilla, multiple Doctors and Investigators), same with mafia (2 Random), I'm GF.
Night 1, Night 2, both my silly scumbuddies get killed by an SK in quick succession.
I then half-lurk through the rest of the game, until I'm forced to claim. I claim some random town role, when there were two masons (two-way PM), and some other roles found dead already to account for the entire unknown town. Someone even calls me on it, and says how that's impossible. So, instead of lynching me, the very much confirmed GF due to unambiguity in role counts, they lynch a Jester (VI). The next day, they decide to lynch the Investigator (DT), whose claim has not been countered, for "being dumb", because he was pushing to lynch the SK, and gave no information on results, just that they all died before he claimed. That night I kill the SK, survivor lives, I win, gg no re.
So, I was able to survive as a confirmed GF, and win the game by myself on Day 8 with no help from anyone else, with town never actually lynching me, and even being unsure I was scum after I was confirmed scum by dead roles...
At least I got to plug TL mafia at the end though. :p
|
on a side note- won a game for the townies as an escort today. Was able to point out all 2 mafia and an arsonist using block. Was AWSOME. I can do you one better. Once on the second night i blocked the godfather but didn't rat him out. I just kept him permablocked. Only after the sheriff took out the other two did I rat the godfather out.
I usually play by the name Fairy Leviathan or Thetis of the Ocean. They're inspired by the Megaman Zero and ZX series.
|
Since this got bumped I'll just let everyone know there is a TL mafia game currently accepting signups. If you like sc2 mafia but are frustrated by people ruining the game for teh lulz then come join us, we're all really manner and the current game is aimed at newer players.
Oh and the forum is now open, you don't have to ask for access.
|
I will bump this again by saying that this map is awesome!!
What are your favourite roles to play in Mafia? Jester, because trolling is in my blood. Sheriff, it's fun figuring out people's roles.
What are your least favourite roles? Citizen - boring as shit. Mason - boring as shit. Doctor - No good reason, I just don't like it =/
What are your favourite moments in Mafia? A random lynch that significantly swings the game into someone's favour.
|
the new roles have really changed how the game plays out in an interesting way. especially the executioner.
|
I've got to say, this is really fun. I started playing it when it first came out and it was really, really frustrating because people were trolling hard and random lynching, etc. But now.. I play it for like 3 hours a day.
+ Show Spoiler [survey] +What are your favourite roles to play in Mafia? My favourite roles are: Disguiser, Survivor, Janitor What are your least favourite roles? My least favourite roles are: Bus Driver, Arsonist, Doctor What are your favourite moments in Mafia?I don't know about a moment, but I played a pretty good game today that I'm reasonably proud of (I'm Air / Susie Derkins). The game right before that, the Bus Driver single-handedly took care of the entire mafia in one cycle, and before that, I pissed everyone off during the setup sequence and offhandedly suggested that colors remain the same after setup, getting town to lynch the Sheriff on the first day without putting myself in suspicion, hahaha Who are your favourite Mafia players?People who don't know the details of roles are easy to manipulate. Games with FalseTruth (Pop) are always good. Who are your least favourite Mafia players?People who cry at the beginning of the game and threaten to leave if there's no fucking bus driver. People who insta-leave if they get Citizen. People who accuse you for no reason, religiously fight to attack you, and then reveal themselves as Mayors. What. The. Fuck. What in-game names do you use a lot?I use a different name every time. I always use names that end in -y or -i. Not really as a code or anything, just if I arbitrarily limit myself it's easier to come up with a name before I get slapped with an Italian name and get insta-lynched. Zz What hats and models do you use?Either Female/Suave or Scientist/Funny. Female/Bamboo. How much do you play?Too much Until I get pissed. Do you cheat?what Is Dark.Revenant awesome?sure
edit: Scratch that, battle.net townies can ruin your day. Even when the two Mafia argue pathetically against lynching the Mafioso on the first day, are the only ones to vote innocent, and are specifically pointed out by two last wills on the second morning.
edit1: Some channelers are no better..
|
The absolute solution to everyones problem with the skill level on the NA battle.net is simple...
Step 1 . go to channel #mafia Step 2 wait for one of the current inhouse games to finish Step 3. get into a game with people who play mafia all day Step 4. have the most fun you ever had on a sc2 custom without actually playing sc2
|
Woot, I just found this game - and it's so cool. Although I got flamed like hell, when I told them we used TS - I thought if I'm coming out, they'll understand that we wanted no harm, just played the game together... well, one guy got so raged, that he wanted to kill me before it at the NEXT game. Of course we were killed at the night, because I had to reveal myself as an investigator, oh jeesus.:D Anyway, we'll work on our TS, and we won't tell our role each other anymore (only if someone who we knew is trying out the game, because we had to give him instructions, how to play it first). Nonetheless, I don't really care for haters, because we just want to play a game, and we r on TS if we play anything together, so our goal is not to cheat - we couldn't care less for the points.
The best game I've played so far is the one where there were two arsonists. The first few day was boring, but then Lord of The Flies kicked in... Maaan, it was so awesome - it's a pity I got executed very soon, because a guy could manipulate everyone, and he accused me, because I voted guilty at this trial, because he accused every1 for no reason. Long story short, it was very interesting to see, how man can fuck up everything. I mean seriously.... that guy had the power (some kind of charisma, lol) to put on charge every1 and then get him killed, and he really wanted to do the good thing, but managed to do the EXACT opposite. Ooooh, I was raging so much, but it was edifying.
