It was going to spread one way or another. All I did was accelerate the process... At least now everyone knows about it and it will have to be fixed in some capacity. Blizzard was contacted and let's hope they can snuff this out pretty quickly.

I would say the spell is, in its current state, broken. There's no reason to summon a unit, since it can just be mind controlled inside your cannons and destroyed instantly, or mind controlled away from the cannons to be used against you... the dominant strategy seems to be to save energy and mind control anything that your opponents summon, letting your marines do all the damage they can (and even then if your opponents are MCing the marines then it may not even be worth it to summon them). I occasionally bring a swarm of zeals in but even that's dangerous because it's pretty trivial to reset your MC count and do another round...

The "counter" to large units is the prison spell. It's not efficient to use it on small units, but on colossi, ultras, and maybe even tank/immos, it is. Even if the MC cost 250 energy as it seems like it's supposed to, it would hugely impact the decision to make larger units - 250 isn't much more than the 150 the prison spell costs, and it pretty much kills the unit instantly/allows you to kill other units.

edit: I really like this game though. Oh man. Until this MC thing hit, I've been playing pretty much nonstop. Now it's not entirely fun, I start each game wondering if we'll be MCing or not, and my BO (yup, a BO) is thrown off :-\

Just played an intense game where both sides knew about the Mind Control spell. At first it made the game very interesting because we would actually fight over units back and forth. After a while though, we caught on to what each other were doing and only made roaches, zealots, hydras, and ghosts. Summoning anything higher tier ends up slowing your push too much and you completely lose momentum.

If the game ever gets to the low tier only mode the most effective thing to do is try and mind control a unit in a clump (when they mass one unit) and then storm. The other units will have to stop and attack, leaving them stationary and stormable. The only other thing you can do is try to match gems as fast as you can and outmacro your opponents.

Yeah, I totally understand where you're coming from - just saying, maybe it ruined more people's games than would've been necessary. I mean, it's a beta after all, it's not like Blizzard wouldn't have it fixed in due time anyway, if they got to know.


I agree with what Brunix said though - when both sides know of it, the games can be somewhat entertaining.
You can't spell Voidray without 'idra'.

i think i found a bug where after you mindcontrol 1 unit it doesnt cost anything to mindcontrol anymore and you can just spam it to take every unit they make for free

Well, now that everyone knows it, the whole mind-control thing adds a new twist to the game.

It's especially powerful against players who spam the more expensive units (immortals, colosus, ultras, etc)
I've seen players do the powerful 3 immortal + heal push, but if you mind control them 1 at a time, they kill each other before the player can mind control them back or heal them
You can type "StarCraft" with just your left hand.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say its not intended, its probably a spell they were going to put in but decided against it, except they left it on your main unit's ability list, and it probably has "Smart" flag checked, so that means it'll activate on right clicks. This is why you dont leave abilities on your command card with the Smart flag checked

One game I told the other team about this at the start of the game and boy, the whole thing suddenly made sense. You can't just summon super units anymore. You have to babysit them from the moment they spawn and all the way up the track, and these funky mindcontrol battles keep happening. It's actually quite fun, but it should absolutely be documented if it's not a bug or something.

the cost and speed with which it can be used is actually fine, because it becomes this weird tactical tic tac toe thing where you can't just get a super unit as soon as you have 500, you need 750 or more. So you have to counter their mindcontrol, and then maybe try and counter another counter.. eh, if you know what I mean. And at the same time you're trying to do the same to them. It's actually quite fun when both teams know how to use it. You have to scroll up and down the map quite a lot and keep an eye on things - I think it's great - it adds a whole new dimension to the game.

The reason I think this truely is a bug though, is because it doesn't seem to use 250 energy, at least not all the time - you just need to have 250. I think this was supposed to be a feature in the map at some point, but for some reason it was removed, just not entirely. It's also a little buggy at times. I just hope the mapmaker embraces it and puts it in the game for real.

ok, I just realized it never actually spends energy when mindcontrolling. So you can keep taking over units forever as long as you match another 3 jewels now and then. The fun of it kind of went away when I realized that... :\

If (when) they take it out they should definatly replace the stun spell with mind control for 150 energy.
