HasuObs and duckdeok advance to WCS EU Premier RO16!

(P)mouz.HasuObs came in first place with clinical German play, and Korea's (P)MVP.duckdeok made the rest of his opponents look like geese with purely all-in strategies on a WCS EU day of unexpected results. Despite being a four man group, many expected it to realistically be a three way battle, considering the way Duckdeok's MVP teammate (P)TAiLS had fared just the other day, opting to also all-in every game but failing due to crippling lag from Korea.

duckdeok's first series against (Z)Roccat.DIMAGA was basically the same story, as consecutive all-ins failed in spectacular fashion. In the first game, duckdeok attempted a four gate off two bases only to be countered by Dimaga's odd quick +1 armor build. He did not fare much better in the next game, as a small immortal sentry push was repelled with ease, and duckdeok once again immediately conceded upon realizing his all in had failed.

Meanwhile on the other side of the bracket, (P)mouz.HasuObs showed a side of his play that few knew existed, attacking (T)Mill.Dayshi before the twenty minute mark. After Dayshi's attempted marine mine push was defended, Hasu was quick to turn on the pressure with five gates, all the while defending hellbat drops with a well placed cannons in his mineral lines. The gateway attack smashed through Dayshi's unprepared front line, and Dayshi was forced to GG after his economy was crippled. The next game saw Hasuobs settle down and return back to his old self, as he played a drawn out macro game in which he displayed his fantastic multi-tasking. However, the end result was much closer than any match between a five base Protoss and a three base Terran should have been due to excellent EMP's from Dayshi. Nevertheless Hasu had too many resources and too many reinforces to lose, and made it through his first series to go on and face DIMAGA in the winners' match.

Each of Hasu's games against DIMAGA were fairly one-sided either way. In the first game he got swarmed over by an endless stream of roach hydra viper off of five bases, while in the second he managed to defend a similar push and pick DIMAGA slowly apart with harassment and clever army movement. The final game was extremely close as DIMAGA went for a funky two base roach hydra viper all in, which Hasu barely managed to defend with excellent forcefields and colossus positioning. DIMAGA attempted to base trade with mutalisks, but Hasu was on top of his defense and took the victory. While it is fair to say that Hasuobs came into this group considered an underdog, he more than proved that he more than deserved to advance in first place due to his solid, sturdy macro play.

You're either All-in or All-out

Down in the losers match, (P)duckdeok had to fight to get past the latency and defeat (T)Dayshi to avoid elimination. duckdeok's first all-in (what else was he going to do?) was a blink stalker build that got held off by hellbats and marauders, while even more hellbats wreaked havoc in duckdeok's mineral line. The next game he changed it up with a four gate. Not a regular four gate, but a four gate that Dayshi had to have known was coming based on his scouting information. A four gate that, despite the fact that Dayshi went for a marine mine build, managed to crush the bunker-less Terran and even the series up. Now I'm sure many of you know the proverb 'fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me'. Surely Dayshi would not die to a four gate twice? Well...he did. Admittedly it was after Duckdeok built a second nexus (more than TAiLS ever made), but it still killed him despite Dayshi once again having some clues to deduce an all in was coming, and it ensured that against all expectations duckdeok moved on and was granted a rematch against (Z)DIMAGA.

The first game of the rematch featured - surprise surprise - a tasty treat from a cheesy duck. This time it was in the form of a six gate, which was stopped dead in its tracks, and the follow up blink stalker all in was decapitated just to make sure. In the next game duckdeok went for the Magic Johnson of all ins, the triple double with two nexuses, two immortals, two colossi. Dimaga had teched to mutas as is the appropriate counter, but did not have the gas to get enough mutalisks or roaches out to stop the all in, and as his speedlings melted to the lasers of the colossi he GGed out.

In the final game duckdeok went back to reliable old standards and climbed aboard the Soul Train. Dimaga looked absolutely helpless in the face of a huge amount of immortals and sentries, and despite holding his natural ramp with a mass of roaches, the colossus follow up finished him off and duckdeok advanced to the round of 16. Without a doubt the biggest thing holding duckdeok back was the latency from Korea to Europe, so the MVP Protoss player might find himself in contention for a precious top 5 finish, and representation at the WCS Season 2 finals. When in Europe, he might finally show us his macro game... but considering how effective his all-ins were last night, one has to shudder at the thought of how much more powerful they will be in a live setting.

Wow you're fast!

I was pretty surprised that duckduck beat DIMAGA at the end and that Hasu came first, but they played well today.

I keep betting against HasuObs, and he keeps proving me wrong. I think its time for me to stop underestimating his strength!

Good luck to finale and HasuObs, and I'm hoping DIMAGA gets back to his rightful place in the Premiere League. :D

Kind of disappointed that finale made it just on the back of poorly executed all-ins, but it would have probably been more disappointing if Dayshi or Dimaga advanced given how poorly they dealt with the poorly executed all ins.

I heard in Twitch chat Duckdeok was playing in Europe to compensate for lag. It's Twitch chat, I know, no reference, but at least maybe don't assume he was in Korea?

It´s not only a foreigner problem, RorO and sOs are gone already as well. Also both of the top 5, that did go out, won the direct comparism 3-2, so the format plays a role as well (Not that I´m coplaining, I´m happy, MaNa got through; sad for DIMAGA as well though).

Every time you think Hasu is no longer a threat, he proves your wrong . He showed really solid play yesterday, sadly Dimaga crumbled, but I think Duckdeok will show much better games offline! Stephano should be celebrating on his vacation, every time he hears a zerg has been eliminated :D.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

haha so true!! Stephano sits on his thrones and plans the "protoss wedding" aka game of thrones...

but hasu really played amazing games. his constant harass over dayshi killing about 40 workers with pure zealot harass was amazing play! same with dimaga. killing 3 hatches etc... very good play

Dayshi and DIMAGA dealt with it poorly but it wasn't poorly executed at least for those I saw.

I dare say that if Dayshi correctly read the situation after he killed the sentry in the middle of the map we wouldn't have this talk today. He saw the second nexus as well as a sentry and a MoCore. He thought it was a simple pressure and split his marines to deal with the pylones. Unfortunately for him, it wasn't a pressure, it was a 1 base delayed 4 Gate. The kind of thing that never works unless things goes your way. Dayshi splitting his marines went duckdeok way. As he had the time to warp 4 stalkers when a usual 2 base protoss will be on 3 gates just money to warp 2 stalkers and zealot perhaps.

His arrogance caused his demise and I am amazed that neither DieStar nor Maddelisk told him to build a fucking bunker as they all are in the gaming house right now.

I also think that dayshi should have made it to second place beside hasu... He lost to very stupid mistakes. But honestly yesterday he just didn't play good enough... IN the game against hasu... 1 mine at the entrance and he would have been save against the countless zealot runbys from hasuobs.
Also that he lost 4 medivacs full of units against blink stalkers... you just can't make those mistakes against a player like hasuobs...

Because there is nothing to complain.
Its groupplay. Duckdeok won another match (vs. Dayshi) and Dimaga lost it (vs. Hasuobs). These wins count, too.

Keep your extended series in the US.

Good to see that Hasu is still on it and proving the people wrong that count him out . I really hope he goes far this season, even if his chances don't seem so great.

alot of terran players newly just perform well because there are alot of new hots mechanics that allow easy wins early for terran such as a single good widow mine shot in TvZ early midgame, some hellbat abuse, some multi location heavy damage bio drops where one little mistake of the opponent but also luck pre decides games early without a chance of comeback.

It is similar but by far not as worse as in early wol where we saw alot of terrans that just performed well due to early game tactics with incredible unfair mechanics in certain situations.

Not saying whole T is op at all. I dislike alot of other mechanics of other races too like swarmhosts, bit too strong ultralisks, ridiculous dmg and game deciding oracles and skytoss in general, just to name a few that all seem to be rather unbalanced and therefore abusive in certain situations/scenarios. Its just that terran has quite alot of these lucky shot mechanics relatively early and involved into standard play and in the early stages of hots ppl didn't know how to deal with it perfeclty yet (what is required not to instant lose games vs this). Also not refering to any players in particular. Just wanted to mention my unpleasant feeling with all these new mechanics that help to decide games early and fast like oracles or hellbats, lucky widow mine shots or almost unbeatable things like swarmhosts ZvP etc.

Well maybe the wrong place to post this. But I think it is why oftenly it is enaugh to perform a certain ~5-10 minutes just perfectly and then win or lose and therefore we see low quality games in progaming alot more. Where are the times of good old broodwar when games where a back and forth all over the course and games could be redicided in every new situation? Many games are too single sided due to unfair mechanic abuse in my opinion and I lose more and more interest in watching this! :-/

Protoss players get so much hate when they do a 4 Gate from casters, but when Terrans do an 11/11 it is a brilliant play...

Very disappointed with Apollo's casting.
