[LP] Cool stuff
February 1st, 2011 11:03 GMT
Liquipedia Weekly #14Cool stuff! Greetings fellow TeamLiquidians! No single feature this week, but a fair amount of highlights and shoutouts! There have been some cool initiatives on the wiki lately. Read on and find out! by ProgmanSometimes people come up with things to highlight that haven't been thought of before. They weren't expected by the community, or initiated by TeamLiquid's staff. People go out on a creative limb and start a project that's fresh and new, shedding a light on a new bit of info or from a different angle. At other times, people go the distance by putting just a bit more effort into the looks of their articles to make it all the better. They do a little bit of formatting, upload some images or delve into guides on Wiki-coding to pimp out what they wrote. Progman falls into both categories, having designed a chart that keeps track of Player progress throughout the GSL tournaments. Massive props and shoutouts to him, as this is a piece of work that very pleasantly surprised us. We implore everyone to give the full article a check-it-out, but here's a small preview: Take the example of MarineKingPrime. Going into the January season he is seeded Code S 5th, having been the runner-up in GSL2. Then in January he got second place, and he moves up ( green arrow) to be the #2 in the right column representing his seed in March. Cool eh? :D by ByzantiumThe OnGameNet StarLeague is a most prestigious tournament dating back as far as the year 2000 that saw the first OSL sponsored by Hanaro. With the conclusion on the 2010 Bacchus OSL last saturday, there have been 31 OSLs. When Liquipedia started out, we began cataloguing these events, starting out with the, then, current OSL, and working backwards through the years. With the release of SC2, the project kind of drifted off, with many Leagues still unchronicled. Recently though, Byzantium picked up where others left. He's delved back in time, not to 2000, but to 1999 starting out with the Tooniverse Progamer Korea Open which was a pre-Starleague tournament. Anyone who's ever seen a Results and Standings thread can imagine what a fuckton of work goes into this kind of thing and imagine, on top of that, that it's an event that happened a decade ago. On top of that, they had some pretty bizarre tournament structures back then. On top of that, imagine doing articles for five of them so far. Massive kudos imo. Seriously, who understands this... BroodWar Strategy by Aesop A third notable contributor took care of the almost forgotten Terran Strategy section in LP 1. We are talking about Trap here. Filling out very basic stuff, filling in BOs and basic descriptions is tedious work without much reward, but this man did it for his Terran brethren. His contributions include: Thanks for keeping Wiki1's strategy alive and good luck to all Terrans trying these builds! Progman, Byzantium and Trap, we tip our hats to you. Give these guys a thumbs-up! There's a bit of a lull in notable players being added to Liquipedia and, as always, we need your help!. Strikingly, if you take a look at the GSL 4 Code S players or the Ranking List for TSL3 a number of players are still article-less. Notably so we find Choya, Hyperdub, TheBest, Ciara, Beastyqt, elfi and many more. If you're a fan of either of these guys and want to help us out, simply click the name, copy+paste the text in the spoiler below into the textbox you find and start filling it out. It's that easy. + Show Spoiler +

Awesomesauce, the player progress looks great!
Although it does make me kind of sad to see the gap between IdrA and the next foreigner. :'(

It's nice to see that Brood War Liquipedia isn't dead yet!
What is the font used for titles in this post? It looks really awesome.

Wow, I thought LP1 fell into an oblivion. Glad to see you guys prove me wrong!
This even makes me motivated to finish some projects of my own.

Holy shit that progress page is amazing. Great work, Progman!
Love that liquipedia is still progressing but I have to say that I lack the build order help etc that was so massive in BW.
Yay, love Liquipedia! Thanks guys!! :D
Very awesome. So much helpful stuff, I particularly like the BW strat stuff. Those terran BO's are so clutch. Long live liquipedia.
i did an interview with beastyqt, but not in english.
will add that page.
i like the player progress thing. its pretty cool =)
Cool idea. Sometimes I forget about Liquipedia, which is a shame because I know a lot of hard work has gone into it. Keep up the good work!
Looks great. I will be checking in a lot more on the player progress
I would love to see more player pages!
Nice idea. Love to read old BW stuff. Brings back so many memories :p

Classic structure for curling tournaments lol.
Loser of 1-2 game faces winner of 3-4, winner of that game faces winner of 1-2 in the final.
I think the player progress chart is awesome.
I'll try to throw my hat in. If everyone spends 5 minutes each, we could build an ark. Or something.

This looks like double elimination. X-1 is the winners bracket, X-2 the loosers bracket.
Always love really old broodwar history.

Liquipedia (and StylishVODs) were my best resources when I started playing BW in 2009.There are still many strategies and variations that are undocumented or out of date on Liquipedia, and I feel obligated in some small way to return the favor for anyone interested in the history of or learning to play BW. I hope that by fleshing out some of these articles, more higher skilled players will be interested in making minor corrections rather than having to start from scratch. also writing on liquipedia is a proven fun thing to do when you're snowed in from work repeatedly. :>

I really love the players progress page!
Really nice job from the wiki staff, keep going!
Trap for the win, you imba you.
Way to go on LP1 !
But may I ask why the page is labeled as one fact tanks when it's clearly two?
O god now terran will be even more OP.
jk LP <3 thanks for the hard work guys! :_
way to go!
Just another big part of a reason why TL is the best website
Very cool, when we have a few more GSLs, it will be great looking at player progress.

So regarding the code A/code S charts, it looks like amongst all the code A players who dropped down to play in the pre-lims, only Ace made it back?
That's crazy, that means that the top of ladder (non-code S or A) is way stronger than the bottom of code A right now. If this continues into May, it could mean that Gom is giving code A players too much protection and not giving the up-and-comers enough of a shot - still a neat chart nonetheless.

With a potential turnover of half of the entire Code A roster each season, and with the typical ordering in seasons (top seeds are paired up against bottom seeds), you can end up with a completely new set of 32 players in two seasons.

lol yeah, seems like there's a shit ton more players who don't get the gsl up/down matches, than those who do... (me being one who doesn't).
man when i read 1999 it doesn't seem like that long ago. but when i think about it, that was 12 years ago... jesus, esports has come a long way.
