Liquipedia Weekly #1
Bringing you top quality strategy advice, one article at a time
When you get Korean Warpgated, many games look like this Liquipedia is a wonderful resource, and every day it gets better as more and more people add their wisdom to the project. Unfortunately, many people still don't realise just how great it is (although some people are catching on). In an effort to spread the word, each week we're going to bring you a fresh topical article from the wiki. This week we present to you the Korean 4 Warpgate All In (vs. Protoss), which is a build that has been giving many Protoss a hard time on the ladder, particularly on the Protoss ridden SEA server.
The page contains a detailed breakdown of the build from the perspective of the attacker and the defender. The image above is of the basic description of the build, along with some of the tell-tale signs of a Korean Warpgater. Underneath that, you will find the main Korean Warpgate build listed as well as a variation. Rest assured, there are a lot of replays posted on this page to really drive the point home.
In addition to replays, there are a bunch of tips you can employ as either the attacker or defender to help polish off this build/defend against this build. These little things could be the difference between an easy win or a tragic loss. For players lower than Diamond, these tips are a gold mine for improving your play with or against this build.
As you read further, the guide breaks down into a detailed discussion of how to use this build against various common Protoss openings. Included in this section are signs to look for to know you're playing against this build. These subtle points often go without saying at Diamond level, but can often be overlooked at lower levels. This should give you a good sense of an overall game plan no matter what your opponent throws at you. As with the rest of the guide, there are ample replays posted to further demonstrate the points written in the guide.
And now for the section most of you would have been reading this guide for:
The guide then breaks into a discussion about how to counter this build. Including how to defend this build off of a 1 gate tech build. While this is still very difficult, by following this advice at least you stand a fighting chance! However, if you know your opponent is going for a Korean Warpgate All In the guide has a specific build designed to counter it, dubbed the Kowi counter. The build involves chronoboosting out two stalkers simultaneously and getting your gateways up to four as quickly as you can. Full information about this build can be read on the page.
To end the guide, a brief discussion about transitioning out of the Korean Warpgate All In is given. This is broken down by measuring the success of your rush and then evaluating the options that you have left. Depending on how much was invested into the rush the game may or may not be over. There are a few last example games posted just to drive home all the points made in the guide, and hopefully by the end of it you feel a lot more confident about handling this build. But don't forget, you're still going to need to put in some practice defending this! It's tricky to stop even when you know it's coming!
This article is one of the many excellent strategy articles on Liquipedia, and we hope it helps you ride out the Warpgate madness currently going on in the ladder. Meanwhile, the Liquipedia staff are hard at work adding features to the wiki and preparing interesting events for you to enjoy - one of which will be coming up very shortly! So stay tuned for details.
Liquipedia is always looking for people to add content to the wiki - so if you're writing up a guide for the strategy forum, you may as well add that information to Liquipedia as well! If you want to help, but don't know where to start, contact a staff member and they will gladly help you out.

Great article. Glad to see Liquipedia spreading out.

Hehe this is kinda funny, just today I was searching for guides on Korean 4-Gate warp in, and ended up reading that article. It's really good, practiced it a bit in tester, and later won 2 games easily by using it. It's nice for a change to end a game in less than 7 minutes, so far PvP for me was always macroing up or defending the 2gate

Great, TL has created monsters out of every P on the ladder!
|
Haven't really read the article but what exactly is the difference between Korean 4 warpgate and normal 4 gate.
|
Liquipedia is a great tool for SC and SC2, whether it's beginner or experienced players. I check out the site at least twice or more a day when I'm at work lol.

Why don't you try reading the article before asking questions

IME (Only midplat in my PvP, Diamond Terran)
I actually just chrono rally 2 gate zealots to my opponents base and ignore the probe. I've done this many times vs other Diamond/Plat level players and it seems to work pretty well as a counter, even if we both know what we're doing before the game starts.
I play "standard" until I scout him saving chronos/pulling guys off gas, then save chrono for 2 gate lots rallied to his base.
Can better tosses try this a few times to confirm with me if this is a viable counter? I was testing this BO against a random plat toss who responded in kind. Although I won, it was only thru superior micro/macro and him not reacting fast enough. It seemed viable so I adopted it. (Wish I remembered who it was so I could give credit)

is it me or does the "kowi counter" look suspiciously like the huhuman build starred in day[9]'s casting on artosis a couple weeks back... slight variations but it's pretty similar to the 12/15 gate idea.
regarding the OP, this is a great way to bring more attention to liquipedia. it's a great resource that helps developing players find direction, so once again, thanks TL!

Man this would be so useful if I played sc2-- ^^V

Definitely one of the reasons I hate PvP right now. Either I have to 2 gate, 4 gate or Korean 4 gate to have a chance at staying in the game. I'm stuck at something like 55% win rate in PvP because of the struggle with this build.
|
I encourage people to use this build so I can proxy 2 gate and take my 5 min win. Oh how I hate the current PvP matchup. I just find it amazing that an increase of warp gate tech from 60 seconds to 140 seconds didn't end up changing shit for PvP.

Same here, I just finished writing the BO down on a sticky to practice when I noticed this on the sidebar of another article. Guess it's a good time to get it down!
