For the record, I criticize Chinese Dota a lot but have never thought that they were a joke. When I brought up the issue with new talent in their scene back in 2013, I was responding to the idea that China was going to become the "Korean SC 2 of Dota 2." But even then I was trying to bring attention to a problem I see in their scene, rather than saying that the scene was terrible. And these days I have a lot more respect for China in Dota regardless of what I say at times, simply because they obviously don't have the player population to compete with the West, but are still posting decent results.

Chinese LoL, though... It's a joke how bad this scene is despite all the advantages and money.

Ok this sentiment I find much more agreeable. Although I do think the level of league everywhere is kind of shit. Don't really know why teams feel so bad. Maybe just because we had SSW last year that looking at league this year feels hollow.

I think the juggernaut patch really changed things, if you had a somewhat stable meta going into this worlds then the teams that won a lot by picking up on strong champs/comps but didn't necessarily have the best mechanics/decisionmaking etc. wouldn't win as much, and based on the remade game/LGD's first week a lot of the teams we thought going in would be strong haven't adapted to the patch as well.

Chinese Dota elite player pool is shrinking hard. If they can still post results then it's pretty amazing. Chinese LOL is like Real Madrid.

Yes, I'm aware. The next generation of Chinese Dota player are getting older and smaller in population. They have to compete with what I believe to be a very sizable entry of high quality new talent in the West, especially Europe. I don't think they're going to succeed. But were they to do so, they'd have my respect.

except ig and edg qualified on 5.16 while 5.18 had only small changes unlike every other region

riven isn't the best here but isn't terrible, if he gets a good flank off while jinx/azir hit from the front that's still a great teamfight

Same. Anything but riven and I'd say FNC outclassed EDG in the draft.

If EDG loses this, at least China's hot sauce competition is still world class.

At least we get CDEC. It's funny how Dota scene is getting new blood in it at a much faster rate then League scene is. Just all recycled pro players constantly instead of new players. LCS league format may be the reason.

Time travel SSW to the present day and give them a 4 week boot camp and they would probably still be below KT. People don't realize that SSW had an enormous strategic advantage over their opponents. Their laneswapping, deep warding and consequent roaming + jungle pathing was way ahead of its time. But everyone's learned off of that in the last year. They were great for their tie but acting like they'd be doing just as well today is naive. Now maybe if they stuck together and never split up maybe they'd be the best still but some kind of breakup would've been more likely.

I think LoL has less new talent simply because of the import situation. Teams are currently investing in Korean/European imports rather than developing new players.
