Maybe just because we had SSW last year that looking at league this year feels hollow. I think the juggernaut patch really changed things, if you had a somewhat stable meta going into this worlds then the teams that won a lot by picking up on strong champs/comps but didn't necessarily have the best mechanics/decisionmaking etc. wouldn't win as much, and based on the remade game/LGD's first week a lot of the teams we thought going in would be strong haven't adapted to the patch as well.

Yes, I'm aware. The next generation of Chinese Dota player are getting older and smaller in population. They have to compete with what I believe to be a very sizable entry of high quality new talent in the West, especially Europe. I don't think they're going to succeed. But were they to do so, they'd have my respect.

Maybe just because we had SSW last year that looking at league this year feels hollow. At least we get CDEC. It's funny how Dota scene is getting new blood in it at a much faster rate then League scene is. Just all recycled pro players constantly instead of new players. LCS league format may be the reason. Time travel SSW to the present day and give them a 4 week boot camp and they would probably still be below KT. People don't realize that SSW had an enormous strategic advantage over their opponents. Their laneswapping, deep warding and consequent roaming + jungle pathing was way ahead of its time. But everyone's learned off of that in the last year. They were great for their tie but acting like they'd be doing just as well today is naive. Now maybe if they stuck together and never split up maybe they'd be the best still but some kind of breakup would've been more likely.

I think LoL has less new talent simply because of the import situation. Teams are currently investing in Korean/European imports rather than developing new players.
