Why? 2 groups of 8, Bo1s is 56 games 4 groups of 4, Bo2s is 48 games The increase in # of games should not totally ruin scheduling.

Yea pretty much the issue that happens. Got to have a shit format instead of compromising the broadcast by a bit for group stages. So dumb.

Small group size + single elim bracket makes the tournament outcome highly dependent on seeding. Seeding-dependence is usually not an issue if your seeding paradigm is fair enough, but the lack of international competition coupled with regional strength disparity makes it intrinsically impossible for Riot to have enough information about inter-region strength to seed fairly, while retaining a format where seeding hugely impacts the outcome. You can address either of these issues separately to reduce the seeding-dependence of the tournament OR both at once. But if hitting both issues is a time constraint issue, that doesn't preclude you from fixing one of them. But if we assume there are multiple, you see them get stomped less because shitter teams playing each other makes closer games, while segregating them into separate groups prevents them from playing each other. If you have 1 shit team in the tournament, they get stomped 7 games rather than 6. But if you have two shit teams in one group, they each get stomped 6 games and then play a close set against each other.

I don't see how this produces better games than a fairer format. The good teams still play each other in bracket either way, it's just whether you also get to see them play each other in groups. Segregating them from one another in small groups doesn't help you accomplish anything. The only thing Riot really gains in terms of marketing their game is that they minimize the possibility of a region-dominant bracket. In both seasons 3 and 4, the bracket arrangement minimized the likelihood of a Korea vs. Korea final.

In both seasons 3 and 4, the bracket arrangement minimized the likelihood of a Korea vs. Korea final. it does ensure that all the good teams do advance though, instead of not having regional seeding and you could potentially get groups of death with multiple KR/CN teams and decent NA/EU teams. The group stages are boring but they do ensure that the best teams have great chances of moving through.

I would prefer groups to be double elimination brackets over round robin though.

Well honestly before regionals the top meta was very different you can't deny the new patch boosts them a lot. This was just a bo1 from a team that is notorious for being inconsistent( by this I mean they are your typical good mechanical team but very limited brain usage). It really isn't the end of the world lol.

I mean, people just look at rookie/kakao and keep spouting mid-jungle synergy like it's 2013. It really has nothing to do with how bad kid/kitties are though. The team clearly lacks leadership and someone who can really control the mid-late game.
