It is baffling how some people want 1v1 tournaments to be super serious affairs that test skill. Like the Best Riven NA thing was basically a big laugh, and people complained about how it didn't truly show how good people were.

No, my problem is that why did they even make this. It does nothing. We could've ran this on summoner's rift and it would've been better since bot lane and top lane would actually look like it. The only thing that was even questionable was how do we gauge who the better jungler is. Maybe riot could've made a map just to do that. Which they didn't. So what was the point of making an isolated midlane to do a duel for toplane, botlane, and jungle?

A lot of complaining considering we don't even know what the lane setup is like yet.
Besides, you still didn't address why in a 1v1 lane would matter besides brush. Howling Abyss is modeled after a midlane but guess what? There's brush on that map too.

Ok. For example. I'm a support main so I'll use botlane as an example.
The way the bush is located and given the length of the lane, bot lane and top lane can easily be pressured and deny farm with an aggressive support. A Leona, Taric, Thresh, or Blitz hiding on your side of the bush can just easily shut down the lane if your support is not meant to take the aggression (for example Sona). And to counter this, most players pick anti-aggression supports like Lulu and Zyra as a safe first pick.
Meanwhile, midlane is short and is an open field. Where the bush works more like doors to the lane. By hiding in one bush, the opposing side can just easily shift towards the other bush and be quite safe especially there are no junglers or other lanes to bother you if you shift to a certain side. If that is the case, characters who can poke has easier time. That is why most midlane duo pick is sona with corki/ezreal.
Top lane, as well, since it is longer and has lane bushes rather than bushes that work as a door, tend to favor characters that can chase a bit rather than combo-instakill characters or long range harass only which is popular in midlane. Characters like Lux wouldn't very safe at top since she has nothing after she burns her cooldowns and she can be very far away from her tower.
At the same time, characters like Singed or maybe Nasus wouldn't be able to do much at midlane since the enemy poke would be super safe while his style of aggression wouldn't work that well because of the shorter lane.

There are differences sure, but that doesn't completely invalidate the map. It's a different thing and teams will have to adapt, that's part of being a pro. It's not a perfect simulation of laning but I bet it will still be fun as hell.

My hope is that they don't adapt too fast. Cuz I don't think these world class players only know how to play like few champions from their lane. I'm sure everyone knows how to play every lane, and well at that. If they adapt too well, I'm afraid toplane duel and jungler duel might just become midlane duel with toplane players and junglers.
I'm hoping it will be fun as hell. I was really hype for this duel thing. But I am upset not cuz they made the map (imagine a solo queue rank for this thing? It might become more popular than summoner's rift o-o) I'm upset they want to use this map for this event specifically when regular summoner's rift would've done the job WHILE not really finding a way for junglers to duel like junglers.
At least midlane duel and adc/support duel will be pretty legit on this.

I wonder if the only reason they are doing the 1v1 tourney is because of the Wickd vs soaz I think it was that got 100k viewers in the middle of the day.

The current "Magma Chamber" has been in works for a while. It was the announcement I was alluding to yesterday. There's still a lot of details not released and unknown to me but I trust Riot to put out a good map at the end of the day.
All I'm saying is that there's still a lot to be seen about this upcoming map and it makes more sense not insinuate and make negative remarks when in fact it could be something Riot has already taken into consideration.

Length of lane matters significantly. It affects back timings. Top lane you can get away with backing at more times without as big of a fear of your lane getting shoved in too hard. Also longer lanes can punish opponents who shove into you, cuz you have longer chasing distance. Also if there is free range of champ select bush will play bigger role.

Apparently there's offline skills competition going on today but it's not being streamed. It might be live blogged though. I'm checking now.
