Keep the rage to a minimum. This includes wait times between games, music, and balance. Fair warning to all.

We’re taking everything we’ve learned from yesterday to make the conclusion of the Playoffs and the World Finals next Saturday as great as they can possibly be.

There's no way they try to fit three Bo3's into the morning of that day after what happened with disconnects. In the thread Redbeard started he says they're planning for Wednesday but not set in stone yet. No live audience.

Even in that case, he wanted to wait for official statement from Riot, which rightfully should have been a wholeheartedly apology. They did an apology. They even gave you a statement directly after that they going to fix the issues(lan mode, players are able to see minimap, next time for stream riot employee, too). At least after the second disconnect it should have been clear that this is going to take a while. Instead of doing something else. He decided to wait and stare at a screen. Nobody forced you to watch it. After 2(?) years of SC2 experience it should have been clear that it can take awhile to fix. People like him always yell about "Riot did not learn hurrdurrr". Apparently the spectators did not learn, too. Because if they did they would not have waited for 7 hours without doing anything. The only people who would be still upset about it that I can understand would be the people who attended the event in person. But you see nobody here in the thread who was at the event and is still crying and raging. Instead you see people who could have played a game, read a book, cooked dinner, cleaned their room, study and occasionally checked the thread. I wanted to see the games, too. And was sad/disappointed that they did not play but sometimes things dont work out and shit happens. Welcome to life. Why still be upset about something that you can not change anymore. Riot immediately after the games they announced what they will be doing to fix their mistakes. If they do not keep their promises for their next event than we can be upset because they do not listen to us/ dont care. But for now the only thing we can do is to create a list after the event with things that we found bad/shitty. Tell our solutions and mail them to Riot/post on the forums etc.

When you make a promo video that's basically shitting on all your competitors with language like "we're raising the bar to where it belongs" and "elevating e-sports", and then produce a tournament that's systematically worse than your competitor's tournament in virtually ALL regards, of course people are going to be disgruntled. Particularly when it's also clear that you tried to one-up their prize pool but also very clearly put significantly less time/money/effort into actually running the tournament.

Of course a lot remains to be seen, but if they deliver on their promises its a win in the end. On October 09 2012 02:01 mr_tolkien wrote: Well never Blizz did such a disastrous event. Blizz never had problems at their WCS, but their refusal to implement lan, allow for players to reconnect to games, or allow games to be resumed from replays (they mentioned this at least a year ago and we still don't have it) are the source of many many problems in starcraft 2 events. They acknowledge its a problem, but they aren't exactly scrambling to fix it, because they don't depend on the success of their game as an esport anywhere near as much as Riot does.

I'm pretty sure Riot makes more money off of RP microtransactions (and now with $100 RP buys wtffff) than Blizzard gets off of single-purchase in SC2. Doing a quick search: Riot's annual income is larger than Blizzard (combining all of Blizzard's games to boot!)

Does that include WoW subscriptions too? edit: did some counter googling myself, couldn't find anything conclusive. Couldn't find anything besides activision-blizzards earnings at all. If anyone has something relevant i'd be interested to see it.

Riot's own earnings is something like 25-50 million. I have no idea what Blizzard's earnings are since its now Activision-Blizzard and Activision owns like everything.

They wanted to get a lot of people watching and actually turn this into a really big event. And with 500k people watching worldwide, they certainly did. And if tge hardware and internet problems didn't happen then it would have gone fairly well. But they did happen, and honestly, i thinks it's BETTER for Riot that it did. They can take all the mistakes they made, appologize, and FIX every single mistake. For them their learning experience can create good PR of "this is a company that will go out of its way to make sure things are done right, and will admit when they are wrong." I really hope they learn that they need booths though. They now at least understand they need LAN which is good.
