Keep the rage to a minimum. This includes wait times between games, music, and balance. Fair warning to all.

When you make a promo video that's basically shitting on all your competitors with language like "we're raising the bar to where it belongs" and "elevating e-sports", and then produce a tournament that's systematically worse than your competitor's tournament in virtually ALL regards, of course people are going to be disgruntled. Particularly when it's also clear that you tried to one-up their prize pool but also very clearly put significantly less time/money/effort into actually running the tournament. The problem they have is many of us LIKE the other e-sports. So when the casters bug DJWheat, have you ever seen a crowd this excited? Have you ever seen a tournament like this? This is the best, the best!. It kind of got on my nerves, Oh well I mean I like the fact they are putting money in to the game for season three, looking forward to seeing the season structure.

CPL was going to be the best. CGS was going to be the best. Any event, especially if they have some sort of factual claim ($2 mil prize pool is the biggest), is going to hype themselves as much as possible. I agree with you that its unnecessary and causes failure to be even worse, but I somehow doubt leagues and companies are going to be more conservative and stop hyping themselves to the extreme. Its more realistic to look past the hype yourself and set your own expectations.

Blizzard just laughs and says 'fuck you, you don't matter' whenever there's a disaster at an event. Support the smaller devs, they work harder for your dollar :> Since when is Tencent small? It has nearly three times as many employees as Activision-Blizzard. There is nothing small about the company that makes LoL, unless your point of comparison is a company like IBM or Coca Cola... I will grant that Riot does a better job at customer service than Blizzard, but I think that's related to business strategy, not company size.

Having a majority share owned by Tencent doesn't mean Tencent will pour their budget into Riot Games. They only bought Riot to profit off them, not to promote e-sports. But I agree that Riot doesn't have any money problems and that Riot doesn't really fit in the 'indie' genre anymore.

Tencent is to Riot what Vivendi is to Activision-Blizzard - the company holding the majority share. Riot is by no means a "small dev" any more, but Blizzard still is far, far bigger - WoW alone generates as much money per year as Tencent shelled out to acquire Riot.

That alone tells me Riot isn't committed to being the best. Those 2 are so horrible that they will hurt people's enjoyment of the game. Not to mention casting is such a big part of esports.

The conclusion of the playoffs makes that a definite yes. You can't conclude the playoffs without playing the semis.
