Thanks to Reddit sleuths, everyone can try the LotV test maps by following instructions here.

Note: This is not a beta key, it is simply access to Vs. AI and a Unit Tester. I have no idea how cool with this Blizzard is or is not, use at your own risk.

LotV beta is an improvement from HotS, but I just wish SC2 armies were larger. On top of inflated unit supply costs, so much supply is put into workers. T_T

aside from balance this beta looks really good so far imo.
i think the best way is to stick to as many changes as possible and see how it all works out over the next weeks.
but feels way more micro/smaller fight orientated which i really like

My account got flagged, it's shown on the battle.net account dashboard as an extra game.
Didn't get an email though.

Cyclone sounds way too much like the raven. The mechanical voice of the raven was always distinct to itself.

Edit: Nevermind. Seems like Blizzard just hasn't put any sounds for it and took the raven's verbatim.

So far the warpgate nerf seems a bit off I'd say.

i dont know any other match ups but z that well, but shouldnt that make gateway armies a lot more viable in PvT?
with the addition of adept it'd be cool to see a gatway centric playstyle

disruptor looks really fun and allows for defending with small supply counts. ravager is good way of fixing the problem where Zerg could easily be stuck on a useless army of roaches that can't do anything. WG nerf, zergling buff and economy changes will promote more spread-out action I think, which is awesome. I think colossus won't 1 shot zerglings at +3 anymore so zerglings might be useful vs Protoss deathballs.


cyclones look really dumb though, just having them kite roaches up to 14 range is the most boring interaction you can get. adepts I think will excel at killing workers over anything else, oracle all over again. warp prism pick-up range reduces the exciting risk/reward of those kinds of moves imo.

viper spell might break up air deathballs hard which could be a good thing, interested to see how nydus worms work out..

Adepts are going to be very good against early pushes from the Terran, which Protoss has been struggling to deal with in recent times (at least in Korea). They wreck pure marine comps. Also, Protoss has the best anti-Muta option in the game: pheonixes. How could you possibly complain about Mutas in ZvP?

It's hard to get phoenixes up if you don't have the infrastructure for it. It used to be you'd be okay with enough blink stalkers to hold on to get to storm as a proper defense, but now phoenixes are the only way to truly defend.

The thing that exacerbated this is the blink research time nerfs and the fact that blink/storm can no longer catch up to muta's HotS speed. I don't know if changing the adept is the right answer though.

Well in the case of larger units, such as Colossus and Immortals, they are obvious targets to be focus fired. With proper micro you should be able to pull them back, but unfortunately protoss has been designed around this not really being practical in 99% of all situations.

phenoix opening doesn't offer a lot of counter micro but it is interesting because it allows protoss to have map control early on, force zerg to play blind.

Also I don't think siege tank drop is that effective after the meta stabilized. Hard to say of cause


Huk and Rotterdam were both saying yesterday that Pheonix openings are really great, probably for the reason you stated. Recently, most Stargate openings have used the Oracle. I wonder if we'll be seeing Pheonix more often now.
