To be honest, I think Riot gets Rating's are good enough to justify the prices going around.
You can't tell me more people watch the average Columbus Blue Jackets game than the 500k that watch LCS in NA twice a week for 8 hours... and those NHL players make 2 million plus each.
I dont really know if there is a bubble, I just think old time investors just can't ignore the buzz anymore. There are sitcom actors that make 5 million a year on mediocre shows now a days. Sponsors want in, public investors want in, and people want to watch. There is a huge market of new money seeing this as an opportunity to entrench themselves in an industry that could continue to skyrocket.

No. Previous bubble burst when one company tried to finance it all and force it down everyones throat on TV. Think North-American sports franchise, but every team and the whole league owned by one company.
Also the reason why oldschool eSports veterans are so so so averse to putting it on TV. The whole ordeal killed eSports until SC2.
Short overview:
90s. LAN parties, magazines, money from hardware manufacturers. Late 90s earaly 00s. Still LAN parties, more exposure by online sharing of demos and replays. Money from OEMs and edgy cool brands. Mid 00s. Bubble. Pushed on TV, plus all the old avenues. Money from investors, edgy cool brands and OEMs. Late 00s. Dead. LANs die due to internet. We don't have the streaming technology available yet (highly technical and expensive and magic). WC3 is on its way out, last bastion china. And Germany. DotA never made the mainstream. CS killed itself by splitting the community. Little to no money from OEMs. Early 10s. Streaming technology slowly hits the gaming mainstream. Starcraft 2 beta hits. First signs of life. Streaming develops in the premier entertainment medium of choice for the gaming population. League of Legends overtakes World of Warcraft as the premier social game. Welcome to today.

Have there been any bubbles burst once streaming started getting big? Or every major game since then has been fine so far?
The advent of streaming is the crucial shift in society in here to me. It's having some repercussions in traditional sports now (and will eventually lead to very huge effects once TV money becomes unworkable). Ad money will shift correspondingly.

I agree.
Streaming is a total game changer.

One could argue SC2 had a "burst". It was the first major game during the streaming boom so it got rather large then just became rather small quite quickly. An important thing to note is that tournament streaming doesn't directly give money to teams. That and the fact that people are very player/personality driven in their support so the support for your brand could evaporate overnight. Translating fan popularity into money isn't something that brand new teams can do easily as well. It takes awhile to set up those systems which I guess is why a lot of teams have mandatory streaming requirements.

Well, if you want to call it a burst bubble... but the enthusiasm and money that went into SC2 in the first year after release.
You had about two premier tournaments each month, a major tournament every weekend and a dozen daily/weekly tournaments every fucking day.

Tbh TiP and GV aren't going to be selling their spots for much money unless someone dumb comes a long and thus far no one has. Those spots are worth nothing with 0 players AND with the majority of NA rosters finalizing already. Pretty much whoever buys those spots(which may not even happen) have a MASSIVE uphill battle as they have to take the leftovers of the NA talent pool(That is non existent) and put together a team. Also importing is a lot harder to do right now as a lot of KR's aren't particularly interested in coming to NA atm. At least decent ones. Idk both of these orgs are pretty tilting for not selling their teams sooner. I can also tell you that TiP's trying to sell their spot for WAY more than they should be, like they need to get their shit together otherwise they might have an LCS team come Spring LOL

Interesting perspective; in traditional sports, having fewer contracts on the books usually makes a team more desirable to buy. They're like extra fees on top of the purchase price without you being the original one to offer them. It's the lack of free agent courting time that'll be killer.

But they do because it's not just the Blue Jackets, it's the Blue Jackets plus whoever they play. I think Riot understands that the people who are watching Dignitas are also likely to watch TSM and TL. It's why they had the schedule they used last season.
