It seems weird to remove the third place team from CS considering that a third place team from CS in G2 is playing in LCS this split.

Infact, UoL were also a third place CS team so it's doubly strange. So the real crime here is why didn't riot do it a year ago, they could have saved us all from UoL

It's not really strange if you think of the object for these changes, it's a pity the community don't really care. We just lucky that at least CS1 has 2 chances to get into LCS.

edit: Wonder you made a mistake. LCS8 faces winner of LCS10/CS2 while LCS9 faces CS1. That makes more sense.

Welp, this explains the influx of all this money and owners investing in LCS teams, it makes a lot more sense with all this additional protection. 10th place gets a chance to prove they deserve to stay, 8th & 9th place get a pretty critical layer of safety for staying in.

I like this system better. CS still has a pretty big carrot for winning 1st place, not as big as auto-promotion but still very significant, and 10th place LCS finish stops being so devastating. For instance, TDK had an atrocious start to the Summer Split but they were looking half-decent towards the end and were at least looking better than NME, but they didn't get a chance to prove they deserved to stay in the LCS.

Also, the rotation between Velocity / Coast / EG / compLexity / TDK / NME was a little too much IMO, I don't think that long-term you want a situation where half of the teams are unrecognizable from the LCS roster 2 years prior, that's far too much bookkeeping to do for a more casual audience.

The part about CS team player contracts, roster stability and poaching protection also sounds like a pretty big deal. Subs/loans between LCS and CS teams sounds super flexible, we're gonna have to see whether TL can get an advantage out of it or not.
