Should just get rid of the level 30 requirements imo, and increase the number of champions owned requirement in order to play ranked.

So the volume they play will be pretty slow in the beginning. I'd say for most players who play on a regular but light basis will take around 4 to 6 months to get to 30. Which is a pretty insane time investment to just getting started at the real part of the game.

See a champ and want to try him out? Go right ahead, he's unlocked. That single thing makes Dota more easily recommendable. And there's plenty of dumb random shit to have fun with in Dota too. I still like LoL a tremendous amount but I can't see how you defend these archaic systems that exist just to draw money out of the player base. Edit: I even had a friend I tried to get into LoL but decline because his other friend was trying to get him into Dota and he liked the idea of all champs being free. Circumstantial obviously but this can't be an isolated incident. It depends on the person though. Have you ever tried to explain some of DotA's systems to someone who wasn't familiar with RTS (let alone MOBAs)? Denying, different shops, the courier, jungle spawns, str/int/agi, selective magic immunity in addition to all the obscure shit in a MOBA. The grind is annoying, but for a casual play League as a game has a far smoother learning curve for a new player. If the player was familiar with RTS (particularly WC3) I'd probably go with DotA, but if they were completely new I'd recommend LoL without question.

There are more systems but honestly the learning curve on MOBAs is so steep in general it's not that much extra stuff to explain compared to League. Like if it was the only MOBA they played it would be confusing as hell at first but they would pick up on it just like how most players do with League. With the changes to Baron, Dragon, and towers there's a lot of obtuse stuff to explain in League now too. Edit: I guess if I'm gonna recommend it to a super casual player then sure, I'd go League, but i can't think of many times where that's actually gonna happen. The people I would recommend MOBAs to are already fairly hardcore gamers.

Ofc most of that doesn't matter to a new League player, but most of the crazy nonsensical stuff in DotA doesn't matter to a new player either.

New players need a LOT of games to really understand how LoL works, what a meta is, the positions of the lanes, etc. Unless a new player has a veteran friend to help them out, there's really no point for a new player to immediately get a lvl-30 account. They're not just gonna jump into ranked like that. When newbies start playing, their first concern isn't "omg no runes no extra pages no OP champions". They're gonna be more worried about losing to bots in coop AI. I highly doubt they want to jump into ranked so early on. And if they really like the game that much, I doubt they'd really notice the grind as a new player because they're too busy just having plain 'ol fun playing the game, unlike (maybe jaded) veterans who see normals as a waste of time and only care about the competitive aspect of ranked.

While I don't mind that there is some sort of progression to enter ranked, I think it's a bit much right now. Look at other online games, like MMO's or MOBA's, etc. How much progression is there to get into "end-game" stuff? Maybe a month of consistent play would be a pretty reasonable, maybe two months? But as it is now, it takes most players who first start a lot more than that to get to end game content.

The end game in LoL isn't much different from the early game. People level 30 still play normals.
