If accounts start at 30 or only take a short amount of time (say a month) to level to 30 then banning toxic players would have little effect, as they would be back among the general population quickly. Selling accounts would mean that Riot would get a ton of flak for banning players, who would claim it all to be a scam to get those players to buy fresh accounts. Instantly IP banning players who misbehave would result in a number of innocent bystanders also getting banned. Honestly, the only real solution would be if each LoL account was tied to a real world identity (sort of like the Korean system where you need a SSN) so that toxic players can be banned without recourse and smurfs are impossible. Then you can make the levelling process fast and not have any issues. Also, I'm pretty sure it takes several months of intense play to get to most end-game content in MMOs. How long does it take to get a WoW character from scratch to doing end-game raids, for example? I doubt it's much less than what it takes to get to 30 in League from what I remember.

We had discussions about this in the past and people where dissapointed by TL and tried to shrug it off with a "well at least we can be this small family" type of argument. Thorin points out the big ironies that surround TL's decision making which made me laugh because it's so accurate and kind of silly if you think about it. Anyways I have no hard feelings or anything but I'am glad (and also surprised) that Thorin pointed those things out in the way he did ![]() I personally was never salty about the way they "treated" League of Legends (never cared much about the game anyhow), but the way some of the people ditched Brood War for greener pastures after priding themselves as the stronghold of the Brood War community even beyond famous sites like FOMOS (who was loyal to Brood War to the bitter end, admittedly due to it being more financially viable in Korea), still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, especially they way they embrace Brood War recently, the way they never would have when the foreign Starcraft 2 scene was at its peak (when any support available for Brood War was in dire need), and then hopping back on board now that the Brood War scene is alive and well and Starcraft 2 is on the wane . Even to this day, FOMOS became a complete shithole of a site (but in it's peak I learnt so much about the scene from there) but I'll visit there everyday just for the nostalgia factor, and always rate it as a superior site to this one due to its quality posters back in its heyday. I sort of the hate the site for that one thing, but still come back because the average quality of posters in general is higher than any other available site, including Korean ones (except FOMOS in its prime), and it's something to be proud of, having this many people so passionate about E-Sports in general even if there are ill feelings and unresolved issues all around. I expect this site to be as excellent for some one loves League of Legends as it once was for Brood War.

The base gates are pretty big, new item, and a bunch of balance changes for champs and items (a decent mix of nerfs and buffs too). Of course that's assuming what's on the PBE will be included.

I don't want to bring up any stuff that is still too early and experimental but a few projects that we are working on and are going pretty well IMO are: Ryze Poppy Taric Tristana Some are small, medium, and some are big scope. Also there are a bunch more in the pipe just not ready to talk about yet.

Remember, ranked play isn't something everybody enjoys. Also, I think I'm gonna try to do some sort of LR'ing (not the thread, but like writing up what happens in the game) for the Saturday Korean games.

I know this won't be a popular opinion here but I suck with skillshots and am very happy that there are some champs out there that don't require them. I really wish they'd just buff Taric ever so slightly, he was probably my favourite support in season 2. Now I bet they'll make his stun a linear collision skillshot (as if we don't already have enough supports with those) and ruin my day. On January 08 2015 19:29 Fildun wrote: I've got quite a lot of friends who play League, most of which are either still leveling or very casual players. Most of the leveling players don't find leveling fun because of all the bots and all the smurfs. However, I don't hear them say level 30 is way better than 1-29 or that it's a whole different game. I think that if Riot can cut back on the smurfs and bots in level 1-29 leveling won't be that bad. Remember, ranked play isn't something everybody enjoys. Also, I think I'm gonna try to do some sort of LR'ing (not the thread, but like writing up what happens in the game) for the Saturday Korean games. Legit smurfs (i.e. not bronze/silver "smurfs") should end up on smurf island pretty quickly though and not mess up games too much? I don't remember running into many (good) smurfs while levelling, though I did run into some level 30's with like 2000+ wins who must have been queuing with their low level friends that ruined the game somewhat, but you get the same thing in level 30 normals too, when a plat or diamond player queues with a bronze friend or whatever (I'm a silver baddie). Matchmaking just can't handle people with vastly different skill levels queuing together but that's fine. Bots weren't a problem when I was levelling (season 2) but I do gather they are a serious issue now and Riot absolutely should take a zero-tolerance position on those (which I think is why they are banning players who bought botted accounts, to try and lower their value). I'm surprised they can't detect them automatically before they ever reach level 30 though.

It's probably a by-product of Riot finding skillshots better because "skill differenciation" and all that stuff, so they want to give incentives to use them and make them stronger. Then when a non-skillshot can individually compete with a skillshot it gets nerfed (sometimes regardless of the rest of the kit, see Taric's stun where things like travel time/the fact he's melee/W's range/etc. all mean the stun needs to last a bit) on these grounds, and you end up with a big dichotomy. In cases like Pantheon for example, his Q being targeted is a staple aspect of the spell, and his playstyle is based on that. If you changed it to a skillshot it'd be huge (see how Rengar changed, although being manaless and sporting free sustain made click'n'point ranged harass on cd too much). But in the end, by-product or not, I'd still rather have silences and stuns and point'n'click spells than a fuckton of knock-ups and skillshots and almost nothing else because Riot's design seems to work in fads at times.

The problem with Taric is that the remake seems to have tried to push him to be a solo laner (badly needs XP since he wants to level all of his skills, passive requires weaving autos/spells and does well with farm), but his design doesn't work great there either. If they reverted his stun to being a 1 point wonder (1.5s at all levels), he'd be pretty good again I think, but that will never happen.

Re: skillshots To give you an example, imagine if Kassadin's Q was a skillshot (not the best example but Mundo's cleavers are more about range than targeting when he wants to stay safe): don't you think his laning would be harder because he'd have more trouble snagging some last hits with it? Same with Katarina's Q, although it's more in terms of harass here. Taric scales relatively well with levels, but it's also an issue of how bad his spells are in the absolute sense: it doesn't matter that you triple your power if you go from 1 to 3 in a game where the average is 5. They more or less halved his armour aura (he needs 250 armour (so 220 when W's off cooldown) to provide the 25 armour he did before), the stun is insufficient for the purposes of closing the gap. With reduced damage and cc, he's cast into a defensive role where he has to wait for the opponent to come to him. That could be fine, but his sustain is incredibly manavore and his defensive steroid has been hit too, hurting his reactive gameplay. Add to it that they also made him farm-dependant when they decided to nerf his base values to accomodate for ratios ('cause Taric will build 300 armour and 200 AP every game he's picked with s4 support gold, obviously). Janna has a lot of utility in her kit, including moveblocks (Q and R) that can't be nerfed as easily (see how Syndra's E is called a "stun", but because of the tiny knock-back it makes her so safe, including against LB), but nerfed him further afterwards when they realised he could be successfully ran in a solo lane. "We made this champion farm-dependant while making sure he doesn't work well in a solo lane, and we also made him level-dependant not because he scales well but because his low level spells are shit. Oh, and the combo of the farm dependancy and their nature (flat value on armour reduction/aura, short stun) means that he's no good late game, when you could finally have farm and levels." There's supposed to be synergy in his passive/Q mechanic to make him combo spells, weave in autoattacks, etc. but he gets a pansy short (both range and duration) stun, lacks mobility and has no way of sticking to people to actually auto between his spells. Then he has huge-ass cooldowns making him level and farm dependant (since even maxed E's cd is stupidly high for wht it is), and mana costs that mean he won't be able to cast a lot unless he itemises for it (which tends to clash with tankiness, as only FH or Gauntlet would provide him mana... well, maybe Glory now I guess). Taric isn't bad by design, or wasn't in the past, but the season 4 changes were a mess without foresight on Riot's part. And in the end the gameplay he previously had is pretty much taken over by Braum (auras? Riot dislike auras and will gut them; manly manfighting support, stuns, very tanky, Braum has all that (Thresh too but that's because motherf***ing Thresh); there's only sustain and he's the weakest of them all in that department), so he isn't even enjoyable in comparison.
