You do QWWQWR at best, can't take level 3 W at level 5. You don't put a single point in E, even for the passive?

shyvana has the same first clear issues as everyone else but after that camps predictably melt and the stalker smite upgrade does a decent job of filling in the hole in her ability to gank.

Kalista works 100000% times better with supports like braums/leo/ali over thresh. At least at scrub elo since most threshs just whiff hooks.

But holy fuck is this champ broken. 1v3'd whilst down items solely because they couldn't catch me. Kept a minion E'd so i could just rend near indefinitely and just a matter of clicking around in a circle.

If you want to do a full clear you won't gank at level 3 so don't bother taking Q, yup.

Well, I did have complaints. That was kinda the entire point of my comment. >.>

I don't mind anti-snowball and catch-up mechanics but the S3 catchup jungle XP was my least favorite mechanic of the game because it had zero visual cues and would easily be something you'd never figure out unless you read a wiki. Now Riot said in S5 they wanted to make things more visible and, in this case, all they did was flip the thing onto the leader while still leaving him with no visual indication whatsoever.

So yeah, I have a reason for the hate.

Always take Q second, it increases survivability and hits hard. Don't Q into camps; you don't get the regeneration from Machete until you've been attacked. Also make sure you don't overlap Krug stuns with Q. Doubling up on W is more mana-efficient (which is relevant if you start Krugs) and does almost identical damage to E. Just remember to take full advantage of W's auto-reset.

I don't like your Frog route. Skip Blue, take Wolves instead.

Let me know how that works for you. If it doesn't I'll take another swing at it when I get home this evening.

Oh. You take Q over E at level 2 because the "survivability" from the cc (if you time it to cancel the big monster's attack) outstrips the E damage, despite the longer cd?

Properly timed you get roughly a second of nothing beating on you plus delaying the big monster's auto attack. That's easily over a hundred damage prevented every camp you clear, more on buff camps where you get a second Q. For E to compete with that its second use (because the first's damage is roughly comparable to Q) has to prevent an equal amount of damage. In my experience it doesn't.

I tend to double up on W for mana efficiency, but E third should be fine if you can manage your mana.

I actually don't really like Leona that much with Kalista. Would much rather run Braum/Ali or even Morgana. Your laning isn't great so supports that keep you safe but also want to be in the middle of team fights work well. The problem with Leona is you don't really have the burst to kill anyone so Leona will jump in and often times your burst isn't as high as the opposing ADCs so it tends to back fire. At least that's been my experience with Leona. I tend to like Leona with shit like Corki/Graves/Lucian since those three can actually burst people down.

Kalista is strong but if you're 1v3ing with less items and winning your opponents are just bad (or they have zero hard CC or slows).

in my experience playing against kalista so far i think shes pretty good against bruisers but pops against assassins

Smiting the Gromp grants Gift of the Toadstool - attackers are poisoned for 6 (+ 6 per level) magic damage over 3 seconds. Lasts 90 seconds.


How crazy is it for a blue side melee top laner in a tough melee vs ranged MU to take smite and smite gromp constantly for the thornmail type antiharass?

Gromp respawns every 100s so thats 90% uptime.

-plus it assists your jungler clear which can be tough now (as long as they arent the type to smite gromp themselves)
-allows top to secure crab consistently solo (so a free partial ward)+gold/exp
-helps farm under tower
-helps secure drag and baron
-possibility of counterjungle

?maybe even grab a new jungle item if they are strong enough?

PASSIVE - CHALLENGING SMITE Smite can be cast on enemy champions, marking them for 6 seconds. While marked, you deal 18-69 bonus true damage to them on hit, have vision of them, and reduce their damage to you by 20%.


sounds pretty brutal strong in lane situationally, and of course open up even more counterjungle options

of course the price you pay is no TP etc... just the gift of the toadstool seems like it could really add up sometimes.

Skirmishers saber is so damn silly on shyvana or ww. xD but the toad buff sucks ass at lvl 1-5 so its not great for laning, as well as causing problems of pushing lane a bit if you fight in lane.

Someone did exactly this to me when I was playing Jayce top he was playing Nunu top on blue side and started the game with the Gromp. He was untouchable for the first few levels.

You're talking about putting a champion in a vastly inferior position in the current state of the burgeoning jungle meta as if placing him there suddenly gives you more smites as opposed to putting him in a place where he can make better use of his natural abilities. do you guys think it's better on shyvana to finish devourer at ~8:45 with no boots or ~10min with boots? obviously you want to start stacking it ASAP, but even with W the lack of movespeed is pretty noticeable and you basically don't ever need to back once you finish devourer so it might be a really long time with no boots before your next back.

One thing about Kalista's kit that should be clear is that leveling ult past rank 1 is not worth it. It only reduces CD, and 90s is low enough for a fight initiate. Riot doesn't make very many champs where leveling your ultimate is wrong, but this is one of them.

Can Shyv clear far enough with a leash where she can pick up jungle blade + boots? Because if so, that's when I'd say to pick em up.
