I've just started playing him (have 3 games now) and 90% of the time when I taunt someone who doesn't have tenacity it feels like it's only taunting them for about 1 second instead of 2.25 There are some bugs where the taunted person just keeps going where he was going instead of attacking you but I don't know about anything that would cut the taunt short. Maybe the shunpo/leapstrike during taunt bug is still in? Not sure.

I'm going to try and time it tomorrow to see if I'm right.

Relentless Pursuit (E) [seems to now have a mana cost again]
The cycle of buff and nerf continues. Riot will nerf; Riot will buff.

As weak as Ez is right now, I still think he's plenty strong right now. I would really hate to see him being used a generic pick again, since I feel his kit is easily op'd when his numbers are in line, and his design works much better as a niche pick in a teamcomp that can't peel for him. Not a fan of unwarranted buff to him

Unless you specifically need poke, Lucian is the new Ezreal because he does well in almost all lanes since his laning is so strong, and later he's super safe thanks to his low cd dash, while having much more damage than Ezreal.

That's a problem of Lucians numbers being too high, and thus the generic lucian picks.

Is there quantitative data on whether the game is more balanced/diverse than before? I feel like if anything, as players (Koreans) have gotten better at the game (everyone else copies Koreans), we will just have less pick diversity because league's design lends itself to reductive optimal play. And because of this we just go in circles, for example, with top ADCs and their itemization (let's support ADC item diversity by turning the BT->TF route into IE -> Shiv!)
This is just speculation and confirmation biases when remembering anecdotal evidence however.

Well, roughly 50% of the champion pool has been picked in Worlds so far this year.
How much of the champion pool was picked in Worlds last year?
|
It's because items are just giant statsticks in almost all cases which leads to whichever kit that makes the best use of the stats being far and away superior to other kits. It's also why most kits are extremely generic and similar; because certain things (such as gapclosers) are almost 100% necessary since there is hardly any way at all to itemize for utility. Since basically everything scales with these statsticks that also grow exponentially in power the more of them you have, snowballing is a real problem and will never truly be addressed as long as riot doesn't change their itemization philosophy. There will always be some mathematically correct build to maximize damage/survival/whatever, and a corresponding set of champs that take advantage of that the most.

Goes even lower is we discount the mineski pain train and TSM's teemo shenanigans

Seems similar to me, since a couple of the 2013 picks were blatant troll picks (TSM Teemo and the Ziggs ban)
You know what I think is really funny about Worlds this year? There have been SO MANY changes to mid lane since S3, and yet the Worlds mid lane champion pool is still fairly identical. Zed, Ahri, Syndra, Orianna, Fizz. And all of those were nerfed in S4 too. We've just added Yasuo.

Ziggs was already stupid good in s3. It's just he wasn't in the meta which was more assassins centered (the Corki buffs didn't help obviously since stalling wasn't as necessary).

People are still picking/banning Lee Sin despite years of nerfs. Also Thresh.

Well Riot brought them back on purpose. Both Zed and Ahri received small buffs, just to bring them back into comp. play. These are also a bunch of the best designed heroes in the game. Who wants so see Xerath vs Lulu instead of Ahri vs Zed mid.

I get Zed.
