Hey zergruskie. Whats the psych analysis for someone who knows they're fucking bad and fucked up so they rage at others anyway. I have no disillusions about when i fuck up in league or how bad i am i just get so fucking stressed about it i lash out (sometimes) XD

Also about that chat thing someone linked:

We’ll keep all private chat rooms and messaging available to everyone, and bring the official public chat rooms back as soon as we can.

So what prompts people to say the insanely derogatory and fucked up things that people say in this game (or any online game with multiple player interaction for that matter)?

I have always wanted to understand this. I mean I'm not a nice guy but what I do is I actually talk shit to my screen instead of typing it out. It sounds silly to spout obscenities at your computer monitor but I feel internally better doing it that way than typing it to strangers or holding it in.

Do these games with anonymity expose the true nature of human beings? Are we just fucked up people pretending day to day to be civilized?

Easy to say things like that when no one knows who you are and are behind a keyboard and get away with it. Not so much irl

Basically what's happening is that situational stressors are overwhelming your capacities for emotional control. I don't think that this is really that concerning. People have different levels of tolerance for various types of stressors. Unless it's excessive, pathological, or causing you or someone else significant distress then it's pretty normal, I'd say.

This falls under "Acting Out" in the list of defense mechanisms I listed, I think. You're expressing frustration. People generally deal with things in one of two ways, internalizing or expressing, and I'm guessing you externalize more than internalize.

Ugh, that's way too fast. Was better when they had 3-4 weeks between each patch. The "new" Nidalee hasn't even really been figured out yet for example.

Everyone complains about MMR basically because they think they are better then MMR places them, and the people they play with are worse. Yet they get new accounts and end up in the same MMR. My mmr used to be silver now its high gold low plat (i've been up to plat had a bunch of disconnects and back to to gold). And I'm way better then I used to be, and I know I have to improve to get higher not complain about MMR, duos, bad luck or whatever other BS excuse people use to explain the level they are at. You are at the level you are because of your skill level period. Who cares if you win lane every game, you then are clearly fucking up later, either not grouping, not taking objectives, not snowballing your advantage, team fighting like trash, picking a champ that does well early and stinks late and not using the early game advantage. Getting into preteen tantrum, firstworldproblems, fights every game. Whatever the reason is, if your in Bronze, silver, gold, plat, diamond, and you got there by playing games, then you deserve to be there and the only way out is to play better.

So stop blaming stupid shit. I swear this forum is like a rotation between different excuses to why people are in leagues they are clearly to good for. Free hint of the day, you are not too good for the league your in, it us where you belong till you get better.

MMR =/= league though. so thats not exactly true. you are where your MMR places you, not where your league displays. there is a wide variety of players in any league, some who play mostly with people within that league, some that play mostly with people outside of that league. the best players in diamond 1 are not the same as the worst players in diamond 1, same for all visible tiers. the leagues are an artificial system that have very little to do with your actual MMR. if you are in bronze and play vs bronze, you belong in bronze more likely than not. if you are in diamond and pla vs plat players, you more likely than not belong in plat. it doesn't matter what league you are in, but mostly it matters where your MMR matches you. you can always say with enough games you're visible league will rise/lower to your MMR. but i mean, with enough games you can improve to challenger so whats the point. people shouldn't complain about the league they are in, but if the visible ranking doesn't match their MMR, its a flaw of the system used. for all the talk about clarity riot has pumped out lately, their ranking system is far from it.

When you play some games that flaw gets fixed because you start to gain 30-40 points when you win, skip divisions, lose 10 when you lose. And the opposite if you're too high, it doesn't take many games to sort its self out. But for the 1-20 games who cares? You get to move up like a pimp. If you are to high I could see it sucking, but few people complain about that

Right, eventually the visible league gets corrected to where you should have been a few dozen games ago as known by the hidden MMR. if you continue to 'improve' at that same rate, the system will always lag behind you some until you hit the top. the whole time the system tells you that you are worse than you truly are. its an inaccurate system. i desire a more accurate one. a more clear one. where how the system judges you isn't hidden behind fake "advancement" games and arbitary league divisions.

PX, you are right, but at the same time it is much less productive to sit here and complain about the system than just accept it. It is functionally an MMR system, just with some window dressing in front.

I dont think its a big deal, anyone actually looking to improve never put much stock into their MMR anyway. Even in BW, it was never my MMR that told me my play had evolved and improved, it was usually playing a game against some random godlike player and getting thrashed a couple times, then running into the same player some time later after some real hard evaluation / refinement and beating him in like 5 straight games pretty convincingly.

People worry far too much about some random online rank. Just a number.

honestly i was one of those people who argued against a ranked play system in Dota 2. because i think its totally unnecessary and destroyed the established systems the dota community already had in play for those who wanted to 'track their progress'. but if you are going to do it, you should at least do it right. ideally i'd prefer league of legends go the way of dota 1 in the matter, but that will never happen, so the next best thing is giving an ideal system so at least the people who want to be able to track their progress have a method of doing so without all the nonsense in the way.

I don't think there is anything productive about sitting back and doing nothing though.

There is a very good reason the league system exists, and it's that the vast majority of players simply do not have the ability to judge variance. Players given full visibility will over-value their win streaks, under-value their lose streaks, and in general view differences within normal variance as being more meaningful than they actually are.

The league system intentionally abstracts this away because the vast majority of players not only are unable to use the extra information from having everything shown to them--they will misuse it and have a less accurate sense of their own ability.

yeah. but thats a flaw of having any ranking at all as well. people STILL misuse their visible rankings, it just a smaller group than with complete information. but without complete information now the players who could use that information are just as obfuscated as the people who misused the information in the first place. if you are going to have a ranking system, it should be used to give the people who actually use that information everything they need. its not newbie friendly, but thats not the point of rankings anyway. by trying to make a system friendly for the masses you alienate the people who would use the system properly to begin with. why go half assed into ranked when you could do it properly.

i know the answer is money. and that it may be unreasonable to ask a business to do something that wouldn't keep people as attached to the game and spending money in the game, but if we're talking about ideals its what you have to do.

Most of the time the league system simply isn't giving you less meaningful information than fully visible MMR because any of the extra information you're seeing is just noise.

The advantage of the new league system is that Gold V 90 LP is not view as any better or worse than Gold V 45 LP, whereas the granularity of MMR means that small difference are amplified, especially at the XX90 mark, where 1500 is somehow much different than 1490.

This is the same argument why the high level of granularity in SAT scores amplifies the noise rather than bringing any meaningful indicators of performance (and why in signal processing in general, if the incoming information is garbage you can't make it more meaningful no matter how much you amplify it because you just introduce noise).

I do think the promotion games cause more issues than they solve. Just having people get promoted like in SC2 may be better(If SC2 still does this, haven't played latest expansion)

I think the biggest reason for the difference between divisions and MMR is the promotion series. You need to streak to get promoted but you can get demoted without a real streak. Would something like a demotion series, lose 2 out of next 3 games to get demoted, help?
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death
