i ended up doing most damage with blue build cait build. 40% cdr, ibg/muramana/lw/bc/ionian boots/bt. Shit was cancer as fuck. Could Q-E combo every 5 seconds. | ||

Also laser is silly with smartcast. I don't know how you guys make it work, because it feels so much better to press(release key) click&drag release vs. press drag release. Maybe it's just because I don't know the range on viktor E. | ||

Otherwise, you really peak at midgame, when even if your ult won't kill a meta tanky offlaner (not even Ryze) you'll kill squishies super fast and be able to to zone the rest, while being able to survive more than 2s under enemy fire (save for assassins). If you build chalice or grail, you hurt this peak by delaying your items. I'd rather focus on getting as many blue buffs as possible and building damage than trying to poke people because Viktor will lose in that department, his sustained ranged damage is inferior to most poke champs (one spell, long cd), and while CDR is useful for his ult, he's so reliant on it (and it's clearly a teamfighting ult) that it's not like he's Ziggs who has self-peel/mobility, amazing zone control with the mines and 1k+ range spam even if he burnt his ult on a sidelane 15s before the fight, or Lux/LB who don't care about "wasting" theirs because with CDR the cd becomes so short you just need to stall a bit. TL;DR: only one spell with long cd to damage farther than 600 range, clunky flat 120s cd teamfighting ult, about as easy to reach and kill as Brand -> your late game is suspect so you should abuse your weird power curve (esp. since people usually don't know about it). | ||

I'm not saying that you need to rush chalice or anything, just that including athene's or morello in your build at some point can be good. The 20% CDR is very strong on Viktor, and the mana regen is needed for extended sieges if you don't have blue. | ||

TL;DR: as I mentioned, I'll often get Grail after Augment/Zhonya/Void Staff (Deathcap if I was doing well and built it), but I find counter-productive to build it early. Viktor needs the mana sustain, it's just that he needs to burst people more. His numbers aren't bad for the lategame, but not building tanky means his shield is stronger mid than late game, and like Swain the combination of short range + damage over time means that it's harder to kill people (they have more time to receive a shield/heal/flash out/whatever, and are more likely to have a defensive item later on). Not ideal for a sitting duck burst mage. + Show Spoiler [long shit not-TL;DR] + His Q seems good on paper, "oh yeah, good dps thanks to low cd, and a shield too!", but in actuality when you're in range to cast it you're usually in trouble too, Ryze has 600 range, but Ryze has innate spell vamp, insane single-target damage to get a burst of healing, instant cc, and he naturally builds pretty tanky. Of course I had great situations (spent something like 8-9 seconds under 150 health in a late game fight once because Twitch mispositioned and I instantly destroyed him, while the rest of my team dove, meaning only their Leona was on me and QWQ kept me alive till I killed her), but these are exceptions. Usually when someone's on top of you, you Flash out or you die (sometimes you can't even unleash your combo because Q/W/R have long-ass animations). Viktor doesn't like getting in range, but he has to if he wants to deal damage (because of his non-damaging spell he needs Q, and R gets easily outran if he's not actively chasing people; on the other hand cc him right after he casts R and you greatly reduce his damage because pet AI sucks and while it's supposed to chase, more often than not the ult will sit there, and by the time the cc wears off the enemy's out of the AoE and outruns the cloud). | ||
