Sit on it! See, champions only get cheaper and cheaper with each patch, so the longer you wait the more champs you can buy with all that IP. Riot doesn't want you to be able to 'invest' IP, but they didn't think about this!!

Ehm no? They reduce a champion to 4800 every time they release a new one but since they add a 6300 at the same time its still a net loss?

The pool of things-to-buy-with-IP is ever-increasing, sure, but that doesn't mean it's not more effective to sit on it than to spend it right away!

I definitely wouldn't dare spend any IP on hybrid runes right now. When Riot revamps runes I'm sure they'll compensate people in some way but there's no telling if you'll be eligible or if the compensation will be to your liking.

Sitting on IP is hard with all those things I want, and the lack of info on rune changes. I just don't trust them not to be like "fyi your runes lol they suck now gl" as soon as I drain my ip funds.

Try "completely useless until level 6," which guarantees you'll be level 6 when the enemy bot lane is already level 8.

I still think Support Nautilus could be badass. Even more so now that he could actually get some items to have a shield that isn't pop'd in one hit.

Well if support annie and to some degree support amumu are accepted I see this working just as well.
Until 6 you have:
1) A free shield for trades? nice
2) Soft CC (slow) with some self-utility? decent
3) AS debuff? great
4) An AD/Armor steroid? awesome
Malphite also profits from stats that supports are going to buy (hp, cdr) and he always can make use of additional mana regen coming from other support items.

i cant believe someone actually tries to compare annie and malphite
u want to stick a champ that only does well vs melee in a lane with 2 range where he does nothing until 6

Problem is that you can't go use E on people most of the time. Malph is really weak without items, and if you play him support, he'll be a simple R-machine. If you want a R-AoE CC, just go Annie or Leona support like you said. They actually are good with minimal items and are good at laning 2v1 and 2v2.
EDIT : on another note, support Nautilus is pretty boss. He's outright the best peeler in the game, can engage, and has strong all-in potential if he lands a hook.

Annie has hard CC pre-6, and strong damage potential that entire time. Probably even tankier than Malphite, Her resist/armor buff is better than Malph W and passive.
Also, if you look at common lane picks, engages are more burst oriented, so AS debuff isn't that big of a deal.

His shield doesn't let him trade but barely defends him from poke: contrary to Amumu he has no way to initiate fights. A slow isn't enough.

10 times worse than support Amumu. No hard CC until 6, no gapclosers until 6, no sustain.
