I'am kind of surprised we don't have a botlane combo thread in strategy or a general soloq strategy thread. Botlane combos have a pretty huge impact on the game, how it is played and the powercurve of the whole team. It is interesting that you would pick jinx into a kill lane. I think there are 2 ways of grouping botlane combos: 1. General Playstyle groups: Burst, Poke/Kite, Push, Sustain, Lockdown. 2. Explicit Synergy Combos. Alot of botlane champs fit into more than 1 Category, but I the interesting part is that you cannot simply say X+Y is a good botlane combo no matter what. Most people go for Burst + Lockdown when they think Synergy, sometimes Poke + Sustain but there are other potent ones, especially if you tailor them to your opponent. The Push and Sustain kind of combos are often safe enough to deal with virtually any kill combo if you execute it properly. For example Graves + Soraka was a lane played often some time ago and has come out of favor for a while. But I don't think there are alot of kill lanes who can flat out tank a pushed creepwave and outtrade their tankyness and damage. Soraka can be traded for sona/lulu/janna and you get similar results. The first Lockdown combo I remember being popular was Taric + Cait. It was when the European Style Positions started out to be generally adopted and Cait was played more and more. You can have similar results with Zyra/Leona mb Annie as well. I've also seen Vayne+Thresh quite a bit at least end of season 3. Lockdown combos are interesting especially when facing Poke combos. When both sides position well and respect their opponent there will be alot of repositioning and baiting going on. Explicit Synergy Combos often come from one champion needing a certain playstyle/kit from the other. Like Varus for example is quite strong at Poke, Burst and Lockdown, so he makes for a good kill lane partner. But he needs an initiator preferably hard CC to combo his passive properly and because his own CC is an AoE slow and a very slow moving shortranged skillshot. So Leona, Sona, Annie, Zyra etc. are good fits. A wrong aproach for Synergy would be picking Janna to help his lack of kiting/escape and to help his AD based combo with her shield, but then you end up with very awkward spellcombos and suddenly Varus who has no means of getting in/out a fight or forcing one without using ult has to initiate/start every trade on his own. Short story: Varus is a follow up kind of champion and needs an initiator. Annie is really hot atm but she suffers greatly against strong Poke lanes, when she has to do all the work. I would pair her up with a champ who has either a form of CC him/herself like Ashe/Jinx and can do a ton of poking as well, or with a champ who has enough burst to make every enagement a potential kill and kind of scare a Poke combo from overextending. | ||
