A big point I was making had to do with eSports being more culturally accepted. When you add in numbers from places where this concept already exists (like China and Korea) the raw numbers are of course going to be pretty high. But if we just look at US numbers or European numbers compared to the NFL or Soccer (don't know the right league, Premier League?), League just doesn't compare.

Well euw just died again, everyone got kicked then this happened. I present to you, teemo fighting in two large minion waves. + Show Spoiler + All skills were invisible too, and if I looked at malphite my frame rate plummeted, and it stayed after I reconnected o.0

Riot S3 had 2+ million online viewers and 5+ million "projected television viewers", while any "mainstream sport" has significantly more. LoL at the moment is probably more comparable to something like Pool or bowling.

If they negotiated a contract with ESPN, they obviously would blow out those numbers. Its just a matter of LOL being way too unstable of a game. While Riot is a great story, it sucks that they weren't an Activision-Blizzard, Valve, or Square.
The client is way too buggy for a major American Network to take a chance (although, places like Spike and G4 are idiotic to not).

bet you pick furion on purpose too

Non-Eve invis champs (along with Eve, obviously) are going to have to get nerfed soon. The range on pinks is just far too low. Twitch, Wukong, etc can juke you even if you throw one down immediately.

There are a host of other issues involved with televising wizard football. Among them is that there is no ball, or other constant center of focus, which makes it much harder to introduce novice viewers to pick up. It also adds in a whole additional layer of commentating and camerawork complications that don't apply to traditional sports. That's without addressing the hilarious quantity of game-specific pure jargon.
Your point about the client is completely valid as stability would absolutely be a major concern for any major TV broadcast, but there's a lot more to the obstacle course some of which are more important than the size of the publisher.

There is a large enough playerbase to serve as conduits. Plus, you wouldn't have DOA + Monte cast, you would have something like Phreak + Jatt/Riv. Smart people don't like those announcers (although Phreak is decent), but smart Football fans also hate Chris Berman, Chris Collinsworth, Troy Aikman, etc.

Speaking just from my perspective living in California in USA.
I know soccer sees upswings of popularity whenever the World Cup rolls around and while the pro US soccer scene isn't all that popular, the sport is played quite a lot. Hockey's popularity depends more on where you live - the closer you live to a city with a team, the more popular it is. Tennis and golf sees upswings in popularity with Wimbledon, the Open, etc...but generally are decently fringe. Rugby I've literally never heard anything about its competitive circuit.
With that in mind, I'm curious to see how League compares to tennis, golf, and rugby. Not necessarily just numbers in viewership and such, but how many people actually play, follow, and are knowledgeable about the games.

I'm fine with eSports being its own thing in some aspects (much like Yango said). I guess I understand their logic, I just don't agree with it. Hearthstone isn't killing LoL :p Yea LoL (or video games) are never going be as mainstream as the NFL. Kind of what they said when American Football was being played as an intercollegiate game and everyone just said it was just a mere copy of Rugby. Right. Cept one happened and the other never will. Besides that your analogy is spot on.
Apparently you can see the future. Can you tell me the winning lottery ticket numbers? Seriously if you are going to try to sound smart at least make statements better than your bronze support plays.

that's pretty damn low, but it's pretty tame compared to some of the sensitivities that some players use in fps games.

Geez this thread moved fast today, is this all about Riot contracts? That should have its own thread by now. I wanna talk about the crazy comps in the KT Bullets vs Najin Black Sword game. Stealth comp with Rengar, Eve, and Twitch? That's just nasty.

Teams have been doing stealth comps for a while with Ori/Shen initiates via Eve/Twitch/Rengar.

Was Shiphtur as well known in solo queue before Coast picked him up? He's like the only person who goes toe to toe with WT in solo queue dominance

So guys, in a fight, all of my team dies about 10 seconds before I do (I was Lucian, kiting etc.) I respawn, say I'm going to take redbuff. As I kill it, my team engages on the opposite side of the map, gets completely wiped, and rages at me for not being there. As an ADC against a Fizz, Rengar, and a Renekton, I'm pretty sure I'm fully within rights to want redbuff before fighting. Am I in the wrong for going to red, even though I told them well before they were in range to engage?
