The winds of change are blowing.

LoL is dying now, no stopping it!
Jokes aside, do you think League or Dota 2 will stand to lose a higher % of their playerbase to a Blizzard made dota?

Oh. New PBE patch. Kassadin reverted to the same stuff as live, more or less, 'cept now if he hits an enemy champion his ult's cost is partly refunded.
Way less rewarding and interesting. :<

I really don't think so, unless they pull out something mindblowing this scene is too dominated by league and dota for anyone. Even blizzard to muscle their way in. Smite has cultivated its niche and probably will stay in their own little corner, HoN is over and I really don't think S2 is going to go anywhere with this new project and the DC moba I don't see fairing any better.

If Blizzard has good servers on EUW and has a less punishing game than DotA and a marketing strategy as good as LoL's then it might gain some users.

I don't think it'll be a threat to the two but I can certainly see it muscling its way into a niche, maybe it'll chill at the CS:GO level of "kinda liked by its group with a few lans here and there"

If nothing else it'll mean that people will actually reinstall SC2 again hue.
I honestly don't see it being a big thing. Blizzard can throw money at tournaments and players, sure, but at this point Riot can as well and Valve is Valve. The edge of being "official Blizzard MOBA" doesn't mean much when the general opinion of Blizzard is rather low.
|
Well Blizzard still has a large population of gamers excited for everything they release (Diablo, Starcraft, etc) so I'm thinking they'll get a population. Are you sure the general opinion of Blizzard is low, or just your opinion (and those you know) are low?

I could see Smite doing well once it's out of beta. I mean, HiRez has a pretty bad reputation, but they've put a pretty fun game together.
I actually spent a lot of time watching Smite at the twitch booth at PAX

After public reaction to things like diablo 3 and SC2 I feel like the general consensus is not in blizzard's favor, I feel like those that enjoyed SC2 and diablo 3 aren't going to be drawn over to heroes as easily and WoW players well, will stick to WoW.

Cataclysm and D3 had a profound effect on Blizzard's fan base.

Well, potentially confirmation bias. The general opinion on TL and other forums (GitP, Reddit... 4chan doesn't really count because they hate everyone) is that Blizzard really dropped the ball on WoL, D3, and HotS and that WoW hasn't been as good since BC/early Wrath.

I actually spent a lot of time watching Smite at the twitch booth at PAX Smite's issue (for me) is that spectating is a nightmare. If you follow one person, you don't get anything, and there's no good isometric view like in LoL or DotA. All spells are designed to take place from the player's perspective, so it's sorta hard to follow from above.

wrath was good until ICC was out the main tier raid for 13 months, BC players just like to shit on it in a similar vein to dota players, harder =/= more complex.

I think the response to cataclysm was really good, wrath alienated the playerbase a bit (Faceroll healing pls zzzz) but then pandaria kinda pissed away the good will cataclysm got them (Should have gone with emerald dream man)

That, and TotC was a shitty instance. It was a room with bosses after the epicness of Ulduar. And then the "raid" after ICC (I don't even remember the name, it was just the twilight drake or whatever) was trash.
Early Wrath, that is Naxx through Ulduar, were fantastic. PvP was iffy through the whole expansion.
Cata was decent at best, imo. Good story, good leveling, endgame was meh.

no TotC was actually a very fun instance on hard with the exception of (maybe) the pvp fight because of the fact that deaths/wipes mattered in that instance and you could easily wipe due to rng until you had built up enough gear.
was the enviroment a little lacking perhaps, but it only had like a 4 month life span and more than anything it had no trash
pretty underrated instance imo.

pretty underrated instance imo. Eeh. Some of the boss fights were fun, but still. I think trash is an important part of any instance, them dragging bosses out to you felt really dull. Like, stand in this room, don't fuck up, collect loot. Like I said, felt really underwhelming after Ulduar (one of the best instances ever imo).
