Lots of fun. Bear Fungus is the best bear ever. Though it should be noted that the game looks... not so good on big tbs now.

Jungle Yi is strong. Clears really fast and is a AD caster with sustained damage and super fast and free (minus mana) resets. His laning is nerfed to the ground though (thank goodness!).

IV had decent moments too, but suffered a lot from the sacrifice syndrome (stop killing/"killing" characters everytime you need to switch the party dammit).

VII lost a lot of appeal to me once I understood that it was a mistake if Jenova seemed like the true villain, and that the creator indeed intended for uber-emo proto-goth dude Sephiroth to be the compelling villain for the game. Meh.
(Several characters are also ruined if you ever try to consider the additional games cannon. I refuse to consider Cloud and his lab flashback in the light of Crisis' Core final scenes.)

FF VI's job system was nice, but the magic/esper system basically reduced character to their job command, since it made it so easy to get all characters at the same level, with exactly the same stats (maybe not HP/MP) and same spells. Not as grating as FF VIII's system though, but it made the game pretty easy past a point, sadly.

In literally any (single player)RPG if you powerlevel, you can make the game trivially easy. Even "super hard" optional bosses don't really pose much of a challenge if you just grind the challenge away.

Story-wise, it's best to view older RPGs (primarily ones in the era of FF4-6, CT) more as a novel, whereas newer ones (FF7+, etc) are more of an interactive movie.

In 8, you had to mix max your power leveling or you were a dread motherfucker.

Or you could *not* level and get carried by draw magics/card mod.

That's a really ambiguous way to describe it. Novels and movies can both have the same caliber stories, it's just that Hollywood decides to be shit.

I think a better way to describe it is plot-oriented vs character-oriented. Old FFs really had "stop bad guy, save world, win game", with some character development like FF4. FF3, for instance, basically had no character development from what I remember, and was basically a story of saving the world. Chrono Trigger did this as well.

Edit: OK Frog had decent character development but everyone else was basically a caricature after their intro story was over.

Newer ones, specifically the FF VII - X era, focused more on the characters and their stories more than just saving the world for the sake of saving it. I like this better, personally, as I get more invested in the personalities than overarching plot in most stories.
FF4 / FF6 felt like they had more of a story than 'stop bad guy' and some -seroius- character development. I still find it way more easy to be invested in characters like Rydia or Locke than Cloud or Tifa. Some of the problem is that a lot of the plot and world-building is tied up in optional conversation that a lot of people skip. This is more of an issue in presentation than strictly a measure of quality though.

I was more talking about presentation than anything else. Starting with FF7, video became a more usable way to present the events of a game. I wasn't trying ot say "books are better" but more "this is how they are different."

This is even more true the more modern you get (tech gets better -> more possible to incorporate better/more video into RPGs)

Vague terminology and terms being used incorrectly...

Trynd autos more than most AD Tops. He's definitely not an AD Caster. Renek falls into that category better.
Trynd is stupid silly because of how he scales. Just because players no longer pick him up doesn't change anything about him. I personally think he's very strong.

I use Renekton and Darius the most Top. Wukong would also be included here but I find him better suited Mid. Rengar is a lane bully and can also insta-gib carries late game but I find him very hit or miss.

Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon is awesome. I am currently playing the highest possible difficulty and you just have to always play with the eprfect strategy. On one map I took only pirates and camped in the middle of a lake because no one else can walk on water LOL. Dude Fire Emblem is the best single player RPG series.

You can probably guess my favorite RPGS by my rune page names; FFX, SO2 + SO3. Awesome music, good gameplay, cool stories.

Would you retroactively not laugh if it was srs?

Edit: While we're on the topic of old RPG's, no love for Shining Force 2? And no one has mentioned Super Mario RPG?!
