I get how buyback adds a layer of decision making but in a lot of cases it neuters winning a team fight. Idk I'm sure I'll go back to liking it tomorrow. I can see how that specific scenario would leave a bad taste in your mouth. Seems like he was so fed that he wasn't even punished for his mistakes.

GA / Zac / Anivia / Zilean type effects don't care if you REALLY got caught out, you'll just have the cooldown popped AND die anyway.
Revive has a whopping 10 minute cooldown which neuters it pretty thoroughly, and you can't buy a teleport ticket back to the teamfight unless that teamfight is inside the base, or you also devote your second summoner to teleport.
Revive is pretty retarded in Dominion though.

Lategame buybacks cost upward of 2k gold on a high-level hero. It hardly neuters winning a teamfight when the enemy carry drops 1/2 a major item in gold to buy back.
It also has a 6 minute CD, which is typically an important aspect of lategame play.

More like play aggressive and crush him, then blame your jungler when you get ganked.

Revive requires trade off with other summoner spells, so unless you have specific strat to go with it, it usually a waste; and GA requires a whooping 1 slot item+ 2600gold, so you'll not gonna see it on 5 champs, and it's only available in late game. On the other hand, dota2's buyback available to all heroes, at anytime even at 1 minute, as long as you have enough money. That's why your poor support can still buyback if they know how to play and keep the reliable gold high enough.
Tbh, every game design is different, it's hard to judge which one is superior than other. I have a headache everytime I read people using deny mechanic, turret mechanic or spell mechanic to judge the game.

and sometime just a huge relief if you were rooting for alliance

Well, it just sucks in the super lategame to lose one fight and lose 60min of game cuz you can't buyback. Also it's kinda ironic to call buybacks 'lame' when inhibitors respawn.. but thats just different aspects of different games so w/e

Losing a lane of rax is actually more punishing in League though, even though inhibs respawn--it's much harder to counterpush super creeps in League, and League has that mechanic where raxing one lane buffs your normal creeps in the other lanes, so losing just one inhib causes creep pressure to go against you in every lane.

I would argue to the contrary because you get more money when inhibs are down, vs less in Dota due to the way creeps push. You trade away map control, but in a lot of the scenarios when you lose an inhib, you're not in a particularly good spot to begin with.
