Can we have a "how to get better at this game" discussion?

When you watched your replays, did you watch to look for objective timings? Did you look for times when you needed to push advantages in lane? Did you look for when you overextended in lane? Did you go over every team fight and identify why it went poorly/well?

If you really want to improve at the game you have to be willing to think about why you are taking the actions you are, and what actions you will be able to take in the future. That's why I'm still bad at this game, I just play it to kill shit cuz thinking is hard.

do you miss cs?
practice csing in customs.
do you find yourself lacking map awareness (ppl walk past wards and you don't realize?)
practice focusing on the minimap proactively, or gain a greater effective vision (sitting back in chair, using smaller screen resolution) or play BW hue
do you find yourself not going to teamfights in due time?
put prioritization on following to fights or ganks (if your lane opponent leaves) just to gain experience and see what comes of it. you'll very quickly realize when to leave to follow, or when to initiate t he leaving just by proxy.

map awarness training: make a broodwar game on Iccup "D- no DTs" and play zerg

anyone got small tips or tactics to share? what I do regulary is make a custom game alone and practice last hitting and controling the wave. you run close to the tower at lvl1 and tank the minions around 1 second to bunch them up so lane will push against you. after that i try to freeze the lane in front of the tower while trying to tank minimal damage and never letting my wave push again. that's my warm up adc thingy.
i haven't played sololanes in years, any1 has advice on how to learn it?
Be nice, buy wards and don't feed double buff.

One thing that I definitely am much better at is csing, but it doesn't seem to translate to actually doing better in games. I also look at the minimap maybe too much (10+ years of BW, War3, SC2 have more or less engrained that in me).

I just very rarely actually win my lane convincingly enough to just wreck the game. Even in most of the games that I do carry, I usually get an early cs lead and force the opponent to back, but I don't finish the kills. The other laner generally plays pretty safe and calls for ganks. I try to roam but never get much done in other lanes (I main top and am speaking from this perspective; I usually have a better time in mid lane though not always. I'll finish lane phase like 1-0-1 and then snowball after teamfights. Rarely do I get the games where I go 6-0 in lane and then just autowin fights for my team.

I think my biggest problem is that I just can't kill people. I've tried to focus on playing really aggressively, but I just get more of the same when I get them really low and don't kill them. Occasionally I get frustrated by this, try to tower dive, and die, but that is pretty rare. When I try to call counterjungles based on buff timings and push my lane, my mid/jungle tend not to respond. I just don't know what the key is to finishing kills and actually snowballing a lane in a way that's not taking a decent cs lead.

EDIT: Oh one other thing that I am really, really bad at is getting farm from 20-30 minutes. It's rare that in this time my cs will go up more than 40-50 during this time, and that just can't be right. I think I'm objective-focused to a fault, because while I'm trying to group people for drag before it comes up, everyone else is out farming lanes, often overextended.

One thing I did to improve map awareness is to treat the map like the rear view mirror when driving. Just check it every few seconds till it becomes a habit.

There are two ways to play the top lane when you get ahead.
1) stay in lane and shove the living shit out of it; force the jungler and mids from the enemy to come to your lane, and hope your team is smart enough to press advantages when they spot the enemies in your lane.
2) wander around in enemy jungle, and midlane, and make da plays.

For ADC I started performing way better when I watched a Dlift interview, and he said: "Your goal as an ADC isn't to get farmed, it's to shut down the other ADC"
If you plan to branch out that is.

No idea why, but it helped!

Put your replays up in the 5hit thread so he can look at them. Or put them up here so someone else can look at them. If you are still low and can't see what you did wrong, your thought process about the game is incorrect and needs to be identified.

I dont reall like blue ez at all tbh, played 10ish ranked games with it, did decently but still felt kinda meh especially the elder lizard version, prefer the doublift bt first version.

Ive started to even oick vayne without knowing the enemy ad carry. 75%they pick blueez, caitlin is managable with her recent nerfs and vaynes buffs. Only thing thats giving me pain is draven.

I had an ez go bortk into triforce... but I think what could rival that was a jayce who went wriggles into triforce. So blue ez doesn't seem that bad in comparison.

It was either Bebe or GoDJJ, saw them both do it early but think GoDJJ was the first I saw on solo ladder

Honestly I see a lot of people qq about blue Ez, but my experience with and against blue Ez honestly makes me feel that blue Ez is very well balanced. I honestly see more people fail with blue Ez than people do well with it.

is wriggles a decent pickup for top laners? my friend was telling me about the cost efficiency of the item as well as the spirit stone items, are they matchup specific or pretty safe item to go for most of the time?

It's efficient compared to stacking Cloth Armors and Longswords but pretty much awful compared to Cutlass. Item efficiency should be compared to the relative levels you could get from spending your gold elsewhere; it doesn't really matter than X item is gold-efficient because practically every item in the game is gold-efficient. The stats should be compared real items as a baseline. For example, Rageblade is efficient compared to stacking Blasting Wands, but for a AD/AP hybrid items, the baseline should be Hexetech Revolver.

i hear ohmwrecker is gold efficient and randuins is not

randuins is expensive as all fuck for what it gives you but its utility isn't really something you can price in gold

gold efficiency is a pretty dumb metric imo

This reminds me of a conversation I had a loooong time ago with bly08
bly08: You don't compare items just based on their cost efficiency
Scip: of course you do, what else would you compare them by?
bly08: like, by what they do

i miss bly

dude was smart

Oh god, please don't get him back. This was definitely one of the times I hated the TL veteran rules.
I see people like TheYango and I'm like "Yeah, there should be more people like that guy!" Then there's Bly and it's like "wow, that dude's an asshole. How is he not banned?" For sure, he was right about stuff plenty of times. I could say that stuff that's right, but it could also be inappropriate. Shouldn't get a free pass either. For example, I could say + Show Spoiler +
Nazi experiments on jews and other races provided pretty decent advances in medicine, and weren't all bad.
(spoilered for possible offences, don't look if sensitive to race stuff) Yes that statement is true, but it's still not something that you should say.

My only problem with blue build is that people tunnel on the build instead of going whats good for the game. Yeah blue build is really good, but only if you are a little bit ahead allready or have a good comp to poke with and keep the enemy running. If you need pure straight AA dmg you can build that on Ez aswell, but even if your team needs it people force themselves onto bluebuild
