It's efficient compared to stacking Cloth Armors and Longswords but pretty much awful compared to Cutlass. Item efficiency should be compared to the relative levels you could get from spending your gold elsewhere; it doesn't really matter than X item is gold-efficient because practically every item in the game is gold-efficient. The stats should be compared real items as a baseline. For example, Rageblade is efficient compared to stacking Blasting Wands, but for a AD/AP hybrid items, the baseline should be Hexetech Revolver.

i hear ohmwrecker is gold efficient and randuins is not

randuins is expensive as all fuck for what it gives you but its utility isn't really something you can price in gold

gold efficiency is a pretty dumb metric imo

This reminds me of a conversation I had a loooong time ago with bly08
bly08: You don't compare items just based on their cost efficiency
Scip: of course you do, what else would you compare them by?
bly08: like, by what they do

IIRC both of us advocated Sunfire before nerf and IBG on Ez before blue build

IBG on Ez; pre-blue build was for a slightly different reason than because of the current blue build.

What exactly is the difference? We advocated IBG because it was an AoE sheen proc slow on a 6 second cd and I don't see how that's any different...

People kept telling us that it wasn't gold efficient and we kept arguing that you can't gold value a 1k range spammable AoE slow.

Maramune is physical now.

Still don't think IBG is worth it, Bork IE or Bork Triforce are better choices imo.

I don't think gold value is the issue, it's significant loss of DPS. It's a trade off between direct damage and kiting and poking power
depends on teamcomp but especially back with cheaper and better randuins sunfire and warmogs tanks were retarded hard to kill as it was

you can put a gold value on the AoE slow its just hard to value.
its somewhere between the cost of IBG and 0. Remove irrelevant stat values from the item (ap, possibly mana) and you're left the the aoe slow sheen proc and the armour, you can value sheen by its full price if you want to make things simpler and the difference is the approximate gold value of IBG.

When people say "you can't put a gold value no X" what they really mean is "you can't get this stat easily from base components"

for example the randuins passive can be valued as a function of your EHP against ranged physical dealers since it reduces their DPS by about 15% and then you approximate the usefulness of both slows on top of that, and you find its really cost effective lategame which you'd expect.

You saw people use gold efficiency on this board all the time as evidence for build before people started putting gold values on this wiki. Back then philo was bought quite often as well and an argument was always made that it was the best gp10 because it was gold efficient without the passive.

And every single time I had an argument with someone they'd bring up gold and I'd bring up that you can't price some things in gold

We had this argument about IBG on Ezreal before Blue Ez was a thing and everyone was telling me it was horrible gold efficiency

WELL SHIT I GUESS I WAS WRONG

Muramana became physical.
SotEL got buffed to hell and back and is particularly cost-effective (well AD/gold wise, since Incinerate has been nerfed since the time when people were all over Gauntlet).

Those 2 help a ton with the lack of damage from the build, the iteration before that was Gauntlet+Shiv+BT and relied on using Q to proc Shiv+Gauntlet for AoE poke. Said poke isn't too strong because you're relying on only BT for AD, and the lack of IE makes your autoattack dps significantly weaker.
The new take on the build has SotEL and Muramana to give you a big bunch of AD (once Muramana is fully stacked, it's around 100+ AD so as much as BT) and the 2 on-hit/ability hit for 900 gold more than BT, making you trade the sustain for a much stronger poke and more mana to sustain it. You also get 10% more CDR from the Lizard Spirit.

For laning those were efficient stats, yes, and you wanted to rush your GP10 anyway so it wasn't a problem. Plus, the laning wasn't as aggressive as now, so comparatively hp5 had higher value and HP lower.
Cant take LMS hipsters serious.

I just don't even know what I need to do to get better, as opposed to RTS games where it was really easy for me to identify weaknesses and improve.

Can we have a "how to get better at this game" discussion?

We used to make vods back in BW and upload reps of us sucking so people could point out where we sucked. I didn't think it was worth the effort though to upload reps. I think you'll improve over time. I keep a spreadsheet of my games and would prefer to analyze them but I feel like the recorder takes up precious cpu.

So I've always been kind of curious - what exactly does a coach like CRS Liquid do? In sports (basketball, football, futbal, whatever), the coach determines which players to use during a play/period, they develop formations and plays, and they act as kind of the final shotcaller. In League, I guess coaches could be the ones to bench players and scout, but in game when it comes to shotcalling and movement, that's really on the "team captain" to do.

I suppose they probably have a lot of input on things like teamcomps and judging the strength of their players on certain champions for those comps, but even then I think that the players would have a better feel for it.

Maybe I'm completely wrong on this, but I think one of the important roles of coaches in other games, like SC2 is to set up and enforce the practice regimens. This always was my impression as to why Koreans dominate in SC2, because they have someone with authority constantly pushing them to work harder and get better, something often lacking in the foreigner scene.

TSM has Regi's brother, but he's definitely not as pushy as Korean coaches are. If instead their coach was employed by Snapdragon then he would be more of a manager to them.

You saw people use gold efficiency on this board all the time as evidence for build before people started putting gold values on this wiki. Back then philo was bought quite often as well and an argument was always made that it was the best gp10 because it was gold efficient without the passive.

For laning those were efficient stats, yes, and you wanted to rush your GP10 anyway so it wasn't a problem. Plus, the laning wasn't as aggressive as now, so comparatively hp5 had higher value and HP lower.

Just a note, on blue ez Muramana ends up at like 70ish ad, not 100+. The proc more then makes up for it though.

Liquid watches replays, tells CRS where they fucked up, and does scouting/theorycrafting iirc.

Source: NA allstar SOTL thing, it was actually a pretty good watch.

I dodge if I don't get the 1 role that I play LOL. If you feel bad doing it just think of me.

As for blue build Ez, it seems to me really useful if the enemy has no good engage or they are a splitpush based teamcomp (IBG Ezreal is one of the best anti-splitpushers in the game. He is a decent splitpusher too but has no AoE apart from IBG).

This reminds me of a conversation I had a loooong time ago with bly08
bly08: You don't compare items just based on their cost efficiency
Scip: of course you do, what else would you compare them by?
bly08: like, by what they do

i miss bly

dude was smart

Oh god, please don't get him back. This was definitely one of the times I hated the TL veteran rules.
I see people like TheYango and I'm like "Yeah, there should be more people like that guy!" Then there's Bly and it's like "wow, that dude's an asshole. How is he not banned?" For sure, he was right about stuff plenty of times. I could say that stuff that's right, but it could also be inappropriate. Shouldn't get a free pass either. For example, I could say + Show Spoiler +
Nazi experiments on jews and other races provided pretty decent advances in medicine, and weren't all bad.
(spoilered for possible offences, don't look if sensitive to race stuff) Yes that statement is true, but it's still not something that you should say.

sounds like you're mad cause bly called it like it is

bly #1 poster bring back bly

bly would tell people that they're wrong and back it up with legit experience. his advice was really helpful at times.

but people didn't like being wrong so they used the sheer power of numbers to chase him out.

gg

(he wasn't right all the time though, people would just get mad or take it personal instead of opening up some sort of dialogue)

He often disagreed with me though and my experience was more legit than his, so idk. He was often right about things but oftentimes wasn't (advocating wriggles on a lot of junglers in S3, wtf?!?!?)

I think he just didn't like it here because people here are wrong about stuff super often and he didn't have the patience to explain why they are wrong so he just sowed chaos all over the forums and watched the forum burn. It was pretty fun imo.

Question regarding custom item sets:
Is there a way / place I can go to, and download a bunch of them and just chuck them in a folder? I'm too lazy to make them myself, and it would be cool if I could just download a bunch of recommended items from a guide site e.g. Lolpro.
IIRC they are client side rather than server... but yeah.

Off topic:
So i load up the client... and see a new featured stream. Congrats Ente!

The new champ looks hella weak. Unless they do some major tweaks on him before live he will never get picked: competitively or in solo queue. He is build around his W yet it is arguably weaker than many similar mechanics such as irelia, jax, vi and vaynes autoattack enhancements. He doesn't have any reliable CC or innate tankiness to him and having a steroid as ult is never good on a melee champion. Just tweaking the numbers wouldn't make him anymore interesting either. Honestly, terrible design by riot.
