You don't engage as Riven unless you're assassinating somebody. If you have more questions we have a lovely Riven thread.

Varus is a lot stronger than Ashe in lane. Particularly since he has the versatility to be able to play certain solo lanes (though admittedly most teams don't take advantage of this). Also, I'm not sure how Varus' steroid is more unwieldy than Ezreal's. Staying at 5 stacks to keep your Aspd buff vs. having to kill something, which your AoE spells will often just do incidentally anyway. I was talking about his W. In any case, Varus's popularity and strength do not line up because he is hard to keep safe while doing damage compared to every other ADC except Sivir and Draven.

Since we were talking about Annie, random TOO game: botlane's 0-8 combined, Vayne is 8-1-X, doesn't matter because flash-Tibbers still shits on Vayne's range and she gets killed immediatly in fights. x)

I really don't think I have seen a Varus dominate an LCS or OGN (in my few times watching) game. Varus isn't that comp specific... He has good burst, a strong lane phase and mid game, decent late game damage (because he deals % health damage), and he has more utility than every ADC that isn't Ashe. Combine with 575 range. His only problem is the lack of an escape but his E/R can help him create some distance between himself and divers. Every ADC needs peel, even Ezreal. Varus is going to out put a respectable amount of dps in a team fight due to his long range and two great utility spells, he has a very strong lane phase, and he has high mid game burst (which is ideal right now since fast pushing low farm is so popular right now). He isn't super flashy but he does the job of poke down towers and deal dps just fine.

And on another note, it's funny how much less you have farmed when playing as a team. Whereas in SoloQ I nearly always get 220/230 cs by the 20 minutes mark, it's very rare that I go over 150 when playing 5v5s, since we force so much objectives and the opponents put so much more pressure. Seriously, it's like a completly different game.

Maybe I have a S2 ADC mentality still, maybe I just like Cait, Vayne, Kog, MF, and Ez more "depending" on comps or something. Is Varus basically the Orianna of AD Carries then (a champ I really by the way)?

Just today in our team of bronzes and silvers we won agaisnt a team of golds and platinums... they were so mad!

Ult reworked to damaging AoE ult. She had a surge of popularity after her partial rework where people would pick comp that can make use of her AS buff and rely on swarming the enemy. Then you'd have a Sona who'd press E while Sivir presses R and suddenly unless they have like Karthus' WoP they can't do anything because you have so much more MS. Then Riot gutted the ult duration and nerfed Sivir some more.
