He has an aoe shield (all other support shields are single target, except Lux and mantraKarma.) He has a long range hard CC move (which hitting causes death very often), He has good harass He has additional CC moves. He has this crazy utility feature that is hard to utilize at maximum effectiveness except at the pro level. As a support, he scales incredibly well into late game, not only due to the huge amount of free AP, Armor, and OnHit damage from souls, but also due to the fact that hooks are naturally amazing for late game because of pickoff potential. I feel like the Lantern's range/leash range should be reduced - it's basically something that makes him incredibly at the pro level and less OP at lower levels. With coordination, it allows for a team to take significantly bigger risks than they normally could, and create opportunities where there are none. As far as winrates, "Normal" supports are always going to have a high winrate because of this sampling bias: A lane with a normal support will have higher than 50% win rate a lane with someone who hates support and is picking garbage "not really supports" which happens in a LOT of low/mid games. This lends a natural advantage to supports, especially those who match well with most anything. (Janna Sona Thresh.) Also, another lovely thing about thresh's hook is that it gives your AD carry a "hey, lets fight!" before you go DIVING ON TOP OF THE ENEMY unlike Leona's gapclose. I don't feel like there's a lot of "how to counterplay" available, either. Like, there's "Don't get hooked" but even then, you can't just go rambo fighting just because hook is down (like you often can vs. Blitz) - he still does a lot of autoattack damage (Basically Lulu+Sona combined.) or counter the fighting with E/W. I feel like the only saving grace is that his W has travel time, so you can't interrupt shield very well the way you can with Janna or Lulu shields.
Thresh has his weaknesses. The most important one is magic damage. He has no innate MR scaling, so while he'll slowly get ridiculously tanky against ADs like Draven, Caitlyn, or Graves, he's susceptible to being burst down when fighting ADs like Tristana or Corki. This also makes him relatively weak against supports with heavy magic damage or harass like Leona, Elise, and to an extent Lulu.
He has other less potent weaknesses, such as a lack of tools to push/counter push and an inability to auto-harass long range ADs, but the former is effectively eliminated by the PBE change (shifting Q's passive to E just makes leveling E an effective laning strategy), and the later simply makes the lane almost exactly like a Blitzcrank lane except with better disengage.

btw, is there a place where it's possible to find a 5v5 team to play with? It's nice to soloQ but I would like to play with a 5 player team some time

This plat vs silver thingy sounds really fun and interesting. Would love to get my face wrecked by a high elo and then having some tips on how to do better.
I don't understand all the fuss about Tresh. If you don't like him, just don't play bot ! PROBLEM SOLVED ! Thanks WhiteDog !

Have yet to play against a really good Thresh in lane, only average ones/when he first came out. I can tell how good he is by LCS play, but I don't have first hand experience getting completely stomped by a Thresh.
Also, Vlad is still really strong I feel, no matter how much people complain about how bad he is. Thresh is one of those champs that get stronger as you play against better people/teams.
Most people who play Thresh don't really understand how strong his laning is. His autoattack harass with Q passive is quite strong. He can also mindgame people really well with lantern by tossing it behind him to bluff ganks. If the other duo bot doesn't respect his potential to lantern in a gank, you just call your jungler to come and get an easy gank with lantern.
Even then, Thresh's strengths isn't really in his laning. It's more the fact that he has absurd utility with his kit and unlike Blitz, he has very little weaknesses. At least with Blitz, you can shit on him in lane; not so with Thresh.

I hate. Hate. HATE the new pings. The way they are pressed and specifically the noises they make give me crippling migraines. My only solution is to play with sound completely off, which is pretty detrimental because apparently no one can type 3 letters anymore.
Is there a way to alter them to a less obnoxious sound? Or at least limit them so i only hear them from someone once a minute?

Ive been out of the meta and all so i dont know who's been hit with the nerf bat (or buffed) help me out a little guys :3 Im good with: Leona, Soraka, Taric, Warwick, Olaf, Garen, Maokai, Nasus, Malphite I pretty much have zero of the champs available in the 3 - 4.8k range so just recommend solid champs from that price range if you can, like i said im out of the meta. ALSO anything interesting happen while i was away, any major changes? Thanks guys udyr got changed/buffed with MS and some other changes and is pretty strong now, you play pretty boring champs so he'd fit your roster. Nasus jungle is really popular now. Shen is strong. Why not Shen? Jarvan would also be a great idea IMO, strong top and jungle and hell you can support jarvan. Xin also very strong top and jungle. nothing interesting happened no....unless you've been away so long you were gone when olaf got nerfed hard rumble ult got nerfed, less initial damage. Thats the most exciting change for top lane. Karma got a full rework and is a more standard AP utility mage with a skillshot and stuff. oh, thresh is really good if you play support but he is 6300. Can be topped too as AD.
Ive been gone 2 months, so yeah ^^ Udyr buffs are awesome, i loved udyr way back when i started. Yeah i was around when nasus started getting popular, i have shen but i just cant play him very well, i'll practice in normals if he's a good top laner. I always liked the look of both J4 and Xin, maybe i'll choose between them.
Thanks

For Top/jung, I would suggest ChoGath.
I have sona, and cho gath. I should play more cho actually as he is pretty awesome. Sona i just dont really like, although she has an awesome skillset. Dat poke.

I don't really use any of them except the mia ping, but I find it helpful. It's easier to mia ping than to type mia. You might be able to mess with the sound files to change the ping sounds.

The mia ping is half my problem, I can't play a game because of it. The sound it makes is so ridiculously stupid that it makes my brain hurt. The other half of the issue is that, with my sound off I can't hear anything so when 4 people show up bot for a gank and then i check chat to see a whole slue of pings going off rather than 3 easy letter.
That and the community deems it fit to call me hellen keller whenever I ask them to type mia rather than ping it for my sake.

There's a large selection of websites / forums that are recruiting or are available for you to put your name out there. You can start on the LoL forums themselves among a few others. I'll link a few for you and anyone else interested.
League of Legends Community Forums TSM's Looking For Group Forum
can't think of many more at the moment (Currently 2am) but will update with more later on. You can try these for now though and I'm sure you'll get a few responses.

Ran a poke/siege five man comp tonight. Y'know, where five dudes just hammer down mid lane at the start of the game with Caitlyn/Heimer and then various other champions who work in that comp (we used Nidalee/Xerath/Soraka because Blitz was banned and I was on Caitlyn and no one else on my fives team knows how to TF). It's stupid amounts of fun to play as but I can only imagine how frustrating it is to play against. I've seen the game where I believe CJ Entus' LoL team ran a comp similar to this and won with it but there are few good examples of it being beaten.
So what works to beat this? They had AP Yi mid (which I thought would be strong against our comp) along with Cho jungle/Support Fid/Irelia/Vayne. At the start they sent four mid and let Irelia solo top then Vayne went bot to soak up XP/farm. But our push was too strong and we got all three mid towers before Irelia even bothered to come mid.
The game went on pretty long but our comp was basically designed to siege and there's wasn't. Not to mention we had our Raka pick up mana manip at the beginning so our staying power was ridiculous. I know that they misplayed but I haven't seen high level play of this comp failing only high level play of it working (granted no one would care to post vods of it failing but as far as I know it's only been used in pro play once and it worked and I've seen multiple high Elo vods of it working too). What are the best things to run if you realize the other team is running this?
Also we saved Heimer pick for last so our comp looked pretty standard until then. Which is what's so annoying/trolly about running this comp.

I don't understand. If you are playing this game right, you should be paying attention to the pings in minimap right? Why do you need sound to tell you when things are going on? What am I missing here?
The question mark ping is the best thing in existence at the moment. Using it to indicate baron/dragon/whathaveyou call is much more useful than using it just as a mia type thing.

I thought the new ping sounds were really annoying as well because the high pitch of them was just a pain on my ears, so I had to turn down my game volume. I think they're great and I want more pings, most preferably one that says "initiate" or something along that line.

I forget who played it in some tourney a while back and lost with it. Basically it loses to waveclear, GSG planned it out very carefully and played the comp when they faced poor waveclear with shen top etc...if you stack decent waveclear you can stall with 4 long enough than you can come in and smash them in a teamfight. The games still go pretty long though. Also the way GSG do it 4mid and one top is really reliant on your top shitting on their top. If your top loses its pretty much GG.

First thing they should do is make thresh melee.
For all the strength in his base stats and kit the fucker has no business having any range on his auto attack when it does more than usual.
Nerf lantern range maybe
that should be enough if not too much
