this system seems much better, once you pass a certain milestone you don't have to play with terrible players in the tier below you, lol. what? You don't understand these systems work at all, matchmaking still uses elo, it's just hidden. This is about how information is presented to you, not how you get paired. Ranking systems without negative feedback that stops you playing are what game companies having been moving toward for a while, but it's cosmetic. so theoretically if i get into gold tier, then if i go on a 30 game losing streak, i get matched up with crappy people? if that's true then this system sucks just like sc2 and sc2's system
that is exactly how it works
although as someone who is in gold and sucks
you would get matched up with crappy players like me whether you lose streak or not -_-

Again division have nothing to do with who you play against, it's just a fancy way to see where you are on the "ladder". Every loss continues to degrade your mmr (which is the elo we have now) and you will play with worse and worse people just like now, that part doesn't change.
It just makes it harder for you to actually know anything on the ladder. It's not fancy, it's more obtuse. Making simple things more complex is not smart.
If anything I think Solo Q shouldn't even show MMR and only ranked Q should but hey that's me.

I don't think it's better or worse. I think it changes absolutely nothing.
edit: bad at reading apparently

Ladder really doesn't make sense for a 5v5, because it gets harder and harder to climb back up

I wonder what the actual reason people que normals is? when I que a normal which is actually pretty frequent it's to que with 3+ people, it's not to "protect" my elo, idk how this will solve problems for anxiety people, it's not like sc2 general didn't have a ladder anxiety thread once a week back then that board was poppin.

Not being able to see your MMR is terrible imo.

It's funny, I was trying to come up with something positive in this whole thing. I realized, "Hey, it in this new mini-league I'm being set up in, I can be just like the pros who play with the same group of people and eventually surpass them" or whatever.
Then I realized that you're not even going to be playing against the people in your league so WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT

If this system was supposed to combat ladder anxiety, then GG Blizzard, 'cause ladder anxiety is the #1 reason I quit SC2.

You won't only be matched with players at your level in your division. You'll be matched exactly the same as you are now, just when you win/lose instead of gaining/losing elo you'll gain/lose league points which will influence where you place in your specific league table.
They won't be dropping people out of tiers because that's how they will distribute rewards at the end of the year. Just like someone who spent one game at 1501 and the majority of his time in the 1300s has a gold border but is actually a silver level player. I'd say that by requiring a consistent performance over a period of time they'll be looking to weed out the people who achieve rankings above their skill level by getting a lucky streak of wins.
At least I think that's how it will all work. Hard to know until we've seen it in action.

OH WHAT
excuse my shitty reading, this system is garbage now.

I really dislike this new ladder overhaul. I like seeing my Elo and having it hidden is just going to be stupid because I like to track progression in the context of the overall population, not based on a smaller subset of divisions/leagues and stupid stuff like that.

It will just change what you're looking at. Now instead of looking to achieve a number you'll be looking to progress up a different kind of system.

yea twitter and reddit is ablaze with praise, it's going to make it live. I don't know why it has to go hidden, I feel like the same people who play ranked now are the same who will play after, they are catering to the wrong crowd, as sc2 fans we know hidden dosen't do shit for ladder anxiety

It won't entirely be hidden. 5 tiers per division, so if your lower gold you know you're around the 1500 range. The top division would be hovering close to 1849. So that's not the part that's really bad. Its the needing to win a bo3 to move up a tier when you get 100 league points. Or winning a bo5 to move up to the next rank. Blindly guessing now, I would figure the bo3 would be with players in the next tier, likewise with the bo5. Curious if league points drop if you fail. I guess more will be answered tomorrow during their ama.

Not really. I remember back in SC2 days everyone I spoke to that was I guess a "noob" thought the division system was what you were being judged by to match games and it would cause huge issues for them when they saw someone outside of their tier against them. That was until you explain that it's all meaningless and then they would get angry that they facing people in a different tier but they not in a higher tier. All it does it create confusion where there was no confusion.
If you wanted to beat "ladder anxiety" you removed solo ranked and just put in team matchmaking and normals become the new "ranked" but without any visual ranking.
ps: Link just went syndra mid(godlike) with skillbuild of R > Q > E > W

I'm confused why it needed changing? Is it just to draw people in?

Where is a TL Rioter to comment on this when you need one?
I just can't believe there are so many people out there who praising this system for no apparent reason. This solves absolutely nothing.

It's because people don't understand much unfortunately. They will praise something because they think it does one thing when in fact it does something completely different. Then months down the line when they realise this fact they will bitch constantly asking for the good old days again.
I mean look at the comments. People talking about how ELO hell is gone and how ELO rating was such a bad way to measure skill etc. They have absolutely no idea what they are praising.

As long as winning = going up I don't care about the presentation. The change is just to give lower skill players a greater feeling of progression. LoL is a "casual" game so it makes sense.
