Trist is an old champion, back when AP literally meant Ability Power Scaling and no-one had AD ratios. Now everyone and their pet has an AD ratio... >.>
That being said however, it's not necessarily a bad thing Trist is all AP ratios. That she is still a competitive AD Carry in-spite of all of this is testament to the fact. Giving her AD ratios would necessitate toning down a lot of her W+E+R and that'd make me sad.
Re Trist Abilities: W is a jump which acts as an escape move. You can use it to clean up fights rapidly in early-mid game but risk dying for it. Late game is all about repositioning constantly and snowballing through repositioning over damage. E is lane anti-heal, free harass from splash and a good Trist player knows how to work around the inherent pushing factor. R is lvl 6 wtf burst (I just use it to execute people lol) and mid-late game it's a free CC/peel that's now affected by tenacity. It's pretty amazing. And everything fits into her theme of rockets.
Lorken, ask your friend. If he remade Tristana what would he do. And make sure it's realistic. It's kinda hard to change something that isn't broke and identifies so strongly with such an old champion.

Hey guys there a nice little tournament someone is organizing for 1600 elo and below players.(never been above 1700) Seems like no prize but there might be a victorious Ryze, not sure. I'm 1500 something elo and would love to find some others here to play with. Let me know if there is any interest, could be fun.

I think Riot can reduce her AP ration on her R and give it some AD ratio. Currently her high AP ratio on her R simply causes something called "AP trist".

Like how Lulu and Kog got nerfed. Almost all top laners can jungle because of how top lane works, unfortunately.

I wouldn't say so, Kog can play both AD and AP incredibly well, so can Sion and even Tristana (although AP falls off past level 10-11 if you don't get incredibly fed) and probably a few more can do so as well effectively.

Zyra feels really safe to me. I honestly can't think of a single champion that can stop her from farming. That range is huge.
I dont know if she OP, because it hard to get her damage off against a competent player, but her teamfighting is obnoxious. EWW to root half their team then press R and spam Q. So much AoE damage with an AoE slow, and then their whole team is knocked up.
That being said, it hard to get a good grasp of how good she is because every game I've played on the PBE has been with players who apparently have never played the game before. Win every game in 20 minutes and have the next highest farm behind mine be like 40 CS.

As far as Zyra is concerned I can already tell she's going to be one of those annoying to gank ap mids as that slow/root of hers is just beastly long and painfully bothersome to avoid without catching her with it on cooldown. I honestly feel she's going to just crush people in teamfights with the right setup of that root + ult size. I don't look forward to trying to contest a dragon with her on the other team that's certain.
