This is why Solo Q is forever broken and why elo hell exists. Doesn't matter how good you do if your teammates arn't pulling their weight.
spotlight out, not sure if he should actually mid though
the way smart cast is on his q seems atrocious. that is one skill i will defiantly have to regular cast.

i don't think there is much wrong with the system at all. people just expect it to be more then it ever could be.
Its broken to the extent you can't win 100% of your games even if you do amazing, rarely 90% unless you're a professional on a smurf. But as long as you win more than you lose, then you'll gain ELO

yeah I think the smart cast is retarded as well. If it feels ANYTHING like that smartcast range indicator option, that's absolutely terrible. Releasing key to have a function just feels unintuitive and wrong.
I don't think there is an elo hell, its just that the rate of like improving your overall variance in score is hard as fuck. Like lets say I go 50%, 50~ games from now, my elo would probably be from like 1100~ 1250~ to 1200~1350.

like it is so simple, press q to start charging, and then press q again to release. i don't understand how they screwed it up.
it really isn't. i'd be surprised if he got a 3rd person in the snare in a teamfight. and oh yeah, it's a snare btw. if it was a stun or something it'd be broken.

Most likely for majority of players, elo hell doesn't exist. But for some, there is an elo hell, but still it doesn't affect the mass, if you are good enough, you will gain elo. LoL is a team game, so some lucky people will have higher elo than their actual skill, some will have lower elo than their actual skill.
My friend who was 1400 last season, got a series of good game at the beginning of season 2 and blast his way to nearly 1700, if he stop right there, he can go around and say hes a 1700 player. But he keep playing, and now hes at 1300+ just right where he was in first season.
So the more game you play, the more accurate elo can be.

Ever heard of negative edge in fighting games ? Realising buttons to perform actions is not counter-intuitive, there are even characters based around it (Eddie from Guilty Gear comes to mind). Once you get the hang of it it allows for much more type of inputs.
You know, moving a mouse in a 2D plane is not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you think of targetting, and you know what ? You got used to it !
I'm more concerned with the way smartcast on his q works because the smartcast-with-range option they've had in-game for a few patches is fucking terrible.
Like, nonusable fucking terrible. Sometimes spells go off, but if you press and release the button too fast or spam it or something then it doesn't! wheee!
This isn't really meant to sound hipsterish: but the amount of Blitzcrank being played makes me sad. I went from rarely ever seeing blitz supports outside of when i did it, and now they're everywhere. Was it more common at high elos and I just never saw it or has it picked up in flavor a lot recently and trickled down?

but what is the reason for having it trigger on release as apposed to just press to start press to end? the skill could be implemented just as easily and cleanly with existing methods so why implement a new method?

It's also quicker that way. You're not going to fully charge it every time you fire it, sometimes you just want to shoot one off fast to break W stacks or to finish someone off before they escape. In that case, you want it to go off as soon as possible, and press->release is a lot faster than press->press. Among other things, of course.

My opinion is that elo hell is an illusion caused by people improving to the point that is visible IR mechanics and winning lane but lack the skill to translate that in to consistent success past the lane phase. So people go "omg I won my lane by 20 cs and 3 kills" while other lanes lose its easy to just say "elo hell". But the better you are the more you will get game sense and doing the little things which is why people are higher elo. They can affect the game on a grander scale because they know how to.

Because that's what smartcast is. You're telling them to make it so smartcast functions as....normal? That's already in the game. It's called default/non-smartcast.

Seems like the range to 'get out of it' is alot smaller then morganas ult. Where you cant even flash out of her ult sometimes, varus' ult seems to be dodgable by immideately stepping away from the affected target.

Note also the affected target will not be chasing you.
