You can if you like, however it is possible to acquire all the same things just by playing the game normally. All spending real life money does is allow you to have a different skin to make you feel special.
<3 feeling special.

Too many flamebaits in that GD thread, would of been nice if the article had some good stats to back it up.

Should be awesome. Just need a replay system and something like WAAAAGH TV or whatever the Dota 2 "drop in and spectate" thing is going to be.
Gonna be a hell of a lot of sexy korean cosplayers mmmm ahri mmmm.... Where's that pic again? So gud.

What people fail to understand is (especially the western eSports world and 99% of the sc2 elitists) is that LoL getting popular in Korea is going to single handedly save Korean and EU eSports.
No matter how much some starcraft people hate us....they need us to survive.

I wonder if there is enough of a skill-ceiling in LoL to really capture the korean players though.
In BW there is just soo much that you can be good at where in LoL all the mechanics are learned incredibly fast and have a low skill cap. It'll be interesting to see if the game evolves at all in the next couple years.

Well I feel LoL is easier compared to the other games. Mechanically at least. However, DotA changed a lot in its gameplay over the many years. I believe LoL will stay on the radar for a while as long as Riot keeps up with patches and tweaking numbers (Like blue buff is quite OP atm). It will keep the game fresh and teams trying different strategies to shift the metagame.

There's no such thing as a skill ceiling for multiplayer games.
You don't need to be the "best" or "perfect" in skill....you just need to be better than your opponents.

My only complain is that, while LoL is very fun to play, it's very hard to watch IMHO. I play LoL but during big teamfights it's hard to tell what's going on, esp if you aren't a hardcore viewer I wish riot make the graphics less shiny and more understandable

The hilarious thing is that whoever posted on General Discussion hopelessly overinflated the news.
The original Korean article starts out with "'League of Legend' by opening official and regular e-sports tournament challenges for the 1st spot on game market. Including strong support from the TV game channels, there is an increasing outlook that the future of the national e-sport growth lies in 'League of Legend' instead of 'Starcraft 2'".
Kotaku converts it into "League of Legends (LoL) has made its way to the top spot in e-sports tournaments, replacing StarCraft II."
Another random guy decides to call it "LoL takes #1 E-sport spot in Korea".
Honestly the link isn't saying anything new except what we already knew (Starcraft 2 is failing at Korea, OGN has hosted regular LoL tournament and is starting to push for it hard), so what the article does is just to provide an opinionated piece - but stating the obvious? - where everyone can fight over. While I understand that wanting the game you like to succeed, amount of conflict going over there is really bad... Ah well, I remember people often saying SC3 will do the same thing to what SC2 eventually did to BW, and I'm actually glad LoL made this scenario occur much faster by taking the formers place. Sweet sweet justice.
Also please do not let the cacophony over there give you misimpression about our community in general, we Brood war community generally show more restraint (such as in this thread, and here if you ignore random new users) and that thread only highlights the difference.

That was what the community was like when I kept coming to read up on TL, and part of why I grew to like BW so much. Glad to see some people like that are still around.

yeah of course it didn't exactly tell us anything new, but it was a great opportunity to talk about what went wrong with blizzard and sc2 and how other companys proof that you can do better. too bad that it became a huge flame fest. normally the tl.net moderators do an exceptional job keeping flaming and bashing to a minimum, but i can't stop thinking that some have a blind spot when the flaming occurs against lol.
how else can you explain that a post like this doesn't even get a warning:

So...is the 1.8million$ tourney the one CLG and Fnatic will be participating in or another newly announced one?
Cause i thought that the OGN tournament with CLG was supposed to have a 200k prizepool.

Little birdie with double the downs has told me that Neo is going through that thread and cleaning it up <3 I do think the evil fake red_ should be at least week banned.

Hm, must have missed it then. Thought i checked before writing my post. Sorry.

I also find it funny that people quote masters as top 2% (which is true), and 1500 as the top 10% (when gold is the top 3% of ranked players)

I have no doubt that LoL is super popular in Korea. It fits Koreans gamers requirement quite well. Firstly, Its an online F2P game which is very popular in Korea. Secondly, It requires skills to be good at pro level. If you watch some Koreans LoL matches you may have noticed that some of the players ultilize their champions much more than Western progamers.
