Maybe you just need to be more open minded. If the best players are doing these builds why do they completely suck? It's not like they are definitely good but these players are better than you for a reason. I think in a way it also shows that in the end, player skill, decision making, and basic mechanics are far more important than having the perfect theorycrafted build.
I mean, why else is Saint able to troll and build whatever he feels like and still win games?
I'm reminded of the time Idra got destroyed by F91 5-2 in a show match Bo7 in BW, and Idra's response was "I lost because my opponent sucked." (Basically he was saying that F91 was using an "inferior build," and Idra's build counters the "standard build" so F91 using a BAD BUILD caused Idra to lose).

What's everyone's general consensus on the most efficient solo queue role? I haven't hit 30 yet(pretty close), but I feel like if I don't carry, nobody else will, and if I don't support, nobody else will. It's also very hard to gank as jungle because the lane that I gank usually doesn't grow a pair and help.
Thoughts?
P.S. I ask because in HoN, I would be able to play support or initiate and still be able to play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the game -- I'm just trying to prepare for the future in this game, since I haven't been able to play a ranked game yet.
Edit: Just to note, I'm not asking "huehue which is eziest to grind 1700 elo i know im 2 gud for dis bracket", I'm just asking what the most useful role would be granted I got first pick.

Your most efficient solo queue role is your best role. You're a beast of a jungler? Go play that all day. You melt people's faces off with your AP carry? Do that. Your back has no equal when it comes to ADs? That works fine too.
More or less what I'm saying is if you're having a lot of fun with a particular role, just stick to that role for the time being. Chances are you'll get pretty damn good at that role and then your efficiency naturally rises.

Jungle or solo mid are usually the best roles to carry from because you can gank multiple lanes effectively.

I literally carried as support from like 1200 to 1700 multiple times. After that usually more diverse roles, but nevertheless support can be very impactful.
If you want to rise in elo, play what you're best at.

Agree on jungle/mid. I also feel like you can carry as any role just by giving the team leadership for strategy and taking objectives. I find spamming "we need to group", "get wards", and "let's do dragon" makes a huge difference.

You can definitely carry through support. Most people play support because their team forced them to, so they have no clue how to support. If you learn the ins and outs of supporting, you create a huge skill differential between you and the enemy support, resulting in your ad carry well farmed and fed, and theirs zoned out.

I've come to realize that if I reach late game, 28 AP probably won't make a difference and since I started learning a few very aggressive APs (Ahri, Cass, Ziggs), I played with the idea of just using flat MR like I do on Kennen, just because it makes their already superb trading even better. I dislike CDR Glyphs because of the minimum amount of impact I personally notice and because I prefer runing for the laning phase, and AP/lvl just seems so... worthless.

runes dont mean shit late game, regardless of what runes you run, so run the runes that benefit you the most in that level 1-8-ish area. I remember watching salce's stream some time back (a few months, mind) and he was going on about how awesome flat AP runes were.

Usually it's support. And a good support is really a HUGE difference to a bad support. I almost never play it (10 games) but my Taric has a 70%+ winrate with 6 KDA as an example... A good support win games.

I don't play traditional AP mids but the AP bruisers I play up top use the two set of Glyphs you already mentioned: Flat MR (Kennen) and AP/Level (Vlad/Ramble). I assume you just want some validation here. :3 I haven't used CDR runes since the beta. I used to think CDR/Level was soooo good. Haha, silly beta me.

Hotshot #1 most overrated pro player in the game.
He plays the most overrated position, doesnt play it NEARLY as well as people seem to think he does, and somehow people think he is the second coming of christ.

It's not so much that I was looking for validation as in ''Yeah Shiv, good guy, you're right.'' I was rather running out of reasons to rune AP/lvl glyphs on mid laners and was wondering if I was either overlooking something super obvious or if I was just super late to the party.
I mean, it makes sense to run AP/lvl on Vlad and Rumble, seeing how both are mainly used to bully AD scaling champs that won't put out any sort of magical harass. And then there's Vlad's passive. But mid lane, where it's a poke- and farmfest more often than not? I really think I start running flat MR.
