Really? Everytime I watch Regi lane LB against Jiji's xerath in solo queue, he gets legendary by 20 minute mark lol.
Either Regi is just way better than Jiji, or what Xpecial says has merit.

Xerath isn't as good vs high mobility champs like leblanc. Leblanc is really aggressive and strong earlygame - jiji is very passive in lane and has a weak laning b/c of it. I think it's a combination of both.

LB def beats Xerath Regi, probably best LB, said it numerous times on stream and consistently beats Xeraths on stream to back up said talk.

there's lots more variation than that
As twodown said, even 1200 players are good in the scheme of things
I would say the following, having played consistently with people at all elos from 700 to 2200 Under 700 - probably just playing to enjoy the game. Might not fully understand why some items are bad on some champs 700-1000 - lacking some fundamentals like map awareness or last hitting. May excel at other things though (I've seen 800 elo players that were dominant laners who just couldn't make good decisions or account for anything outside of their lanes) 1000-1200 - either players that are well rounded and just good, or players that are better than good but only at select matchups which they abuse Bronze - likely very good at 1 position and average at best at others. Usually very good at 1 of the following: farming, laning, last-hitting, filling roles, teamfighting, map control Silver - dominant players who know correct builds, timings, but lack knowledge of matchups and counters. Probably not good at ending a game. Inconsistent. Gold - very good players who don't know what they can improve to become even better, or lack consistency to rise in the ladder. These players usually have extremely detailed knowledge about all matchups for a couple champs it even a couple riles. This elo is also where the worst attitudes start appearing 1700-plat: more consistent gold players. Won't derp away a lane or a big lead very often. Plat: usually masters of a couple champs or at the least, very above average in all roles. Know when they can win an engage, and don't engage when they can't win. If you put 5 1900 players together and let them practice together for a month, they will beat 5 random top 50 players every time - the actual skill difference is not that great past this point, it's more of a lack of refinement and split-second decision making and comfort. 2100+: ragers. 2300+: doublelift alts
All elos think that (a) everyone below them, even people 10 elo belowthem, are HORRIBLE at the game, and (b) think that everyone above them, even 500 elo above them, is a worse player that got lucky. The higher you rise in elo the more conceited the players get, starting at 1400s who think "I could be plat if it weren't for feeders" all the way 1800s "I am gods gift to lol and the rain man is TERRIBLE at this game TSM SIGN ME" ...That would basically blur the borders between each skill level by even up to 100 elo each. Thats why you get people who don't know how to play at high elos and pros at low ELOs occasionally I don't really agree with this claim. While not every high elo player is amazing, I don't think there is a single 1900+ player that can't play the game on at least decent level. I also think that if you can't carry yourself out of 1k elo, you can't really be considered "pro"; pretty much any high elo player can win 1k elo games by just going 10/0 every game.

I wish that we had permanent recordings of Jiji stomping around 12-1500 elo last year and saints brief (but AWESOME) 3 day stint at -2 elo.
Anyone who says elo hell exists should be forced to watch those games.
And like, in my personal opinion, 1200 elo was elo HEAVEN, mostly because the players there are bad enough for you to get fed but good enough to KNOW they suck and let you boss them around.

So Kennen pretty much shits on Riven top.
True story.

I was talking about how LB is a 10-0 matchup(fighting game terms) against Xerath in spudparty ages ago, ya'll needed to listen! (Jatt's comment about him having a few seriously terrible matchups, which happen to include a few of the very common AP mids in competition, is basically what my ranting about him was always based on, always).

Jatt never did say what he thought the counters to Xerath were. TSM thinks it's Leblanc and Kassadin. I think they may have said one more, but I forget. Though what about Morganna vs Xerath, shield his stun, can farm fairly safely with her W.

Some real SV gems in this game (directed at silsol)
"How you run out of mana. You have three sheens" "NOOOOO SILSOL! YOU HAVE TOO MANY SHEENS TO LIVE FOR!" "oh he has the master plan! He is gonna turn them all into lich banes! We were all fools. We were all fools, man."

The game changed a lot since jiji was stomping 1200-1500, for example a support hero was a rarity and warding anywhere but dragon was uncommon. This was actually true up until around 1800s even, so you could quite easily roam around and get fed from ganking without really ever wasting your time. Nowdays you have supports even in 1200 games that will throw down a bunch of wards, they might not cover everywhere but it still makes it harder to carry than before.
In addition to this no one really picked heroes with the idea they were good in solo queue, before elementz solo queue tier list most people were under the assumption heroes like anivia were the best since they were used in competitive play, meanwhile people like jiji picked pre-nerf tf (also turned out to be good in comp play, but godly ganks for solo queue). The community has become aware of this sort of thing now along with the game probably becoming more balanced. You could see this with sion a few months ago where he became basically #1 solo queue pick while remaining pretty weak in competitive play.

The point was that Elo hell doesn't exist. And it doesn't. If you can't pull yourself into 2k elo the problem isn't because you get bad teammates, the problem is you.
|
well can you tell me what the problem with me is cause I can't seem to 1v5 above 1400
|
Elo is an indication your ability to play in a 5v5 setting, not your ability to play in a vacuum. There is no magic force holding you back because your teammates always suck.

If the question is 1v1, sure. Assassins always shit on normal mages. But in terms of who is more useful as a whole, I'd prefer Xerath.

Veigar? I would think that would be a horrible pick. One mistake and you're dead. Whereas LB can make all sorts of mistakes.

Just played a game with Rammus(I know I know..op but I play normals and need to hit 30 first) with a few 1300-1500 ELO players(via their claim) and managed to keep up with my team and wreck the others. Pretty pumped since I still don't even know half of the heroes in this game(recent transfer from HoN). Tried Soraka today though, so far my favorite support next to Karma.
