Ive been buying ninja tabi if the other team has a good ranged AD and Im not some beast-mode armor stacker =/ iirc, the math makes tabi pretty shitty when you don't have dodge runes but I would imagine they're removing dodge from tabi too, so I dunno what they're planning to do with it The math on Tabi is great, what are you talking about? For merely 200 gold, you get the boots 2 upgrade, 7 armor, and 12% dodge. Even if you consider the dodge to be worthless, that value is acceptable.

Rod of Ages is boss on Ryze, it gives more mana by far than any other item (other than stacked Tear) and the extra health helps your tankiness a lot. You didn't even mention Banshee's Veil which is super core on him. There's no way you should ever consider a Spirit Visage over a Rod of Ages, especially since the CDR reduction is completely wasted (you max out with just Frozen Heart).

I love theoddones stream, cause you can hear all the drama in the TSM house.

On Ryze I usually open Catalyst for sustain unless I am facing AD then I will open Glacial, Tear always second item. Glacial or Catalyst after depending on what I did not get. Sorc Boots early or after those 3 items depending on how well im doing.
Upgraded Cata to BV for MR, Glacial to FH, get WotA. Then 1 more situational tank item or if I am feeling silly I get Lich Bane.
Upgrade Tear last
Flat Armor yellows, MPen Reds, Scaling MR blues and Mana Quints
Ryze is fun and super bursty. QWQEQRQ so much damage. Really easy to not get ganked by Rammus as well, who is by far my least favorite jungler to face.
However I would definitely suggest Morgana or Brand. Morgana super ezpz laning phase and awesome at every stage of the game. Brand is just fun and blows stuff up.
I main Swain/Gragas/Morgana at AP mid.
The other 2 people I play mid are Kennen and Cassiopeia who are also fun, but I enjoy the above 3 more. Morgana is just banned so much in solo que which stinks because i have an 80% win rate with her and she is a lot of fun. Dat Ulti

Not so sure you max out on frozen heart anymore (or are people going deep enough into defense / util on him for more than 4% CDR? He only needs 9 in offense, AP is garbage on him.) but close. Tear, Catalyst, tank items. Banshee lets you build a negatron, whereas ROA has a 100% useless blasting wand until you complete it. Yeah it's mana and tankyness, but ryze already gets super tanky (FH and BV are standard core on him, after all. Hard to not be tanky) and he tends to just build utility items like WotA after finishing the core.
Also, Don't start your kill combo with W unless you just can't grab them without starting W. QW >>>>>> WQ because you get an extra second off Q, and your Q hits like a truck. That first Q basically becomes free.
Long-teamfight spell combos look something like QWEQREQWEQ. Abuse the shit out of his passive!
Alternatively, a more sustained combo can be a little more patient and go QW_QE_QR_QW repeat (works best when you have max CDR, so early game this requires bluebuff.)

I get 10% CDR from Masteries, 9-0-21

ult + tear is always infinite sustain, why do you need a catalyst for sustain?

You are SO vulnerable to ganks or 1 combos without catalyst though. Tear gives probably less mana sustain than catalyst, and cata+ult is even better for healing.

It's not so much for the sustain IMO as it is for the health. Other APs are going to get DRings and Catalyst, if you don't follow suit you will have 1k hp when they have 2k, and you can't beat them (slight exaggeration).

Since dodge is multiplicative, there is no added benefit of having both masteries and runes. Ninja Tabi are far and away the most efficient boots however, you get 12% more effective health vs. auto attacks.
Dodge is a defensive multiplier, just like crit chance, attack speed, crit damage, and armor penetration are AD multipliers; the removal of dodge means that, late game, tanks are going to be worse. This is why Frozen Heart and Randuins are so strong, they provide an additional defensive multiplier by reducing attack speed. I am hoping that the new runes add a new defensive multiplier.
My suggestions would be: - Crit damage reduction - Crit chance reduction
Overall, I think tanks are fine early-mid game, but late game when carries have all of their damage multipliers, there needs to be at least 1 more defensive multiplier besides health and armour.

If I recall correctly, one of the things they didn't like about dodge was the RNG. I doubt they'll replace it with another RNG stat.

Dat Ulti ult + tear is always infinite sustain, why do you need a catalyst for sustain? Because Ult+ tear is not always infinite sustain and you get a good amount of health meaning you arent nearly as squishy as a Tear start with 290 health and have almost as much burst as with Tear first since the mana difference is so little. Catalyst 1st and Tear 2nd is safer and more solid. Tear first allows you to get your stacks faster but it's not like Ryze has trouble stacking Tear if he gets it a couple minutes later.
And you need Catalyst for Banshees later.

btw WTF was Riot thinking when they made team tags unique? Absolutely retarded.
|
So do the top two from each group advance? Seems pretty outlandish that some groups have four while others have five ^_^
|
Does anyone know of any other notable teams? Because Dignitas is looking like its going to auto advance out of that pool, where as group c is a matter of who gets 1 and who gets 2 between CDE and CLG.
|
Well they had to make room for some teams because of some drama...
As far as clg adding doublelift, I think it was a bad move, their main problem is team cohesion and that primarily has to do with hotshot basically owning CLG, making the big bucks, yet being too stubborn, and having such a giant ego, that he doesn't want to take commands from other people, and thinks he knows the game more than anyone else, which isn't true at all.
Saintvicious is their best player as far as map awareness and strategy is concerned, and it makes me sad that hotshot gets so much praise for tunneling top and being able to CS. Some games he gets so farmed that he can go be super tanky and disruptive end game, but other games he gets destroyed because he wasn't leaving his lane enough to help his team with other parts of the map.
Hotshot reminds me of a player that can only play from ahead, and rarely ever makes great comebacks. Sorta like idra.

Group A: Singapore & Germany
Group B: Spain & Dignitas
Group C: CDE & CLG
Group D: Korea & France
Seems pretty obvious to me.
